Facebook app request dialog box keep on loading/busy - facebook

We have a facebook app and our app uses facebook app request dialog very frequently. Most of the time it works pretty well without any error and hick ups, but sometime the FB.ui dialog just keeps on loading and doesn't show the request that it needs to send.
When such condition occurs wherever the FB.ui dialog is used, it behaves the same and it just keeps on loading.
Interesting thing is that after few hours it starts to work correctly itself (without making any changes)
Each of our team member has a web application server running on their local machine and we all use the same facebook app id. Whenever the scenario occurs, it is visible on each development machine.
Has anybody scene such problem ?

Finally we are able to find a solution for this problem. Following are the the points we pen down to work on:
The problem was visible on each machine where we were running local servers.
We created a new facebook app (basically new app id ) to test the behavior and it was the same result with the new app too.
We have one common demo server where we never noticed such a problem ( this server has different app id) .
we made changes in the setting of our server and moved it to port 80 from 8080 and everything started to work perfectly.
I don't understand how come the port number on server can cause problem for javascript code.
But the good news is after spending complete one day on this bug we are back on development track.

Yes, I am experiencing the same bug. The Facebook developers don't seem to test their own code. They keep introducing new bugs in the production environment EVERY day!! You never know when things work.

I can confirm that the problem is the port. On port 80 it works, on port 8080 (which we use for development, localhost:8080 but also stagingserver:8080) FB dialogs does not work anymore. Got no idea why.

If you are using to parameter to pass the list of friends. Just don't pass more then 25 friend ids for example.
This happens to me when passing 50 friends to apprequest dialog. When passing 25 it works fine.
Not sure what is the magic number, tried 26 and still works.
I got an idea to try to lower number of friends because of the IE6/IE7 25 friends per request limitation.

What could be the reason for a Google Action with external endpoint (API) to work on the Actions Console Simulator, but not as deployed?

I am new to the whole creation-process of Google Actions.
I created an Action with the new Action Console.
It has an fulfillment endpoint to my server (as example: www.mypage.com/api).
For testing purposes it has no authentification, so it generates a public API response.
Said API generates a simple JSON response based on a send event handler.
In short: Action onEnter sends handler to API, API queries SQL database and sends the response back to my Google Action that then "speaks" the SQL result.
The result with the Actions Console Simulator is:
Testing with "Smart Display device: everything works.
Testing with "Speaker (e.g. Google Home): everything works.
Testing with "Phone": main intent is invoked and text is shown but does not get spoken.
So i tested the command "Hey Google, talk to the unicorn app" directly on my smartphone.
Here **everything works fine ** as said smartphone has the same e-mail like the one on my Action Console account: it recognizes the main invocation command and when i ask by voice to get the data, the data is received from my server and spoken.
So something is wrong with the "Phone" device in the simulator. This has been confirmed by me from other users saying that they often have trouble with the simulator function correctly.
I then deployed my Action.
It was reviewed and approved.
A few seconds later i received an auto-email saying that there were too many errors with my app, asking me to check its health status. I did so and in the Health tab, i can see that it has an error but it does not show me what the error is.
THEN I CONTACTED A ACTIONS-ON-GOOGLE EXPERT
They helped me a lot into the right direction but could not go deeper into the problem as my connection (the endpoint API) is outside of their servers.
So i ended with their tip on checking the Google Cloud Logging Console.
As said Logging Console is also new for me, i learned on how to query my results but:
How can i query for the so called "is_health_check" flag?
I am asking this because the Google Expert recommended me to search for said flag but i do not know on how to query it.
Sorry for this ultra-long entry but i am trying to be as transparent to you as possible, as i have been trying this out for several days now.
Thanks in advance for your time, ppl!
So the error is simple once that you know how Google handles the external webhooks. Thanks to the help of 2 Actions-On-Google Experts i was informed that Google pings your external Webhook from time to time.
As soon as they get an error as result from said ping, the Action will be deactivated from the Assistant until a new ping response sends that everything is fine again.
My problem was that after deploying the action and while it was under reviews, i continued to work on the code on my server. While coding, the Google server pinged and received an error code.
My fault, but at least i learned the thing about pinging your action!

Soundcloud Developer Key

I applied twice in the google forms for a developer key for soundcloud to use a widget on my website. It has been more than 3 weeks and I have still not got any reply from them. What do I do?
I'm afraid you just have to wait until they respond. I have applied 3 times now and keep getting rejected and the response is a generic answer not explaining why you were denied. For me I think it is the APP URL, yet they don't explain, it is so frustrating.
Did you try email api#soundcloud.com on my first rejection they were very friendly and replied with advice, however second time they did not.
You can also try calling help on +4930467247600 however they have not worked for me.
Lastly I read online that one person heard nothing from them for weeks and checked his SoundCloud developer page under 'YOUR APPS' and his app was there set up and with the client id and secret etc. He was just never informed that he got it. So hopefully that is the story in your case.
For me it took four weeks. I contacted them via Twitter and Email. They responded but all they said was:
"As mentioned previously, we’re currently working through applications
as quickly as possible, although there has recently been more requests
than usual lately causing delays.
You should receive confirmation soon though."

Ask Google to Stop Googlebot Crawl

Okay, so a Wordpress gallery plugin lead to a massive headache - with about 17 galleries having their own pagination, the links within created what might as well be infinite number of variant URLs combining the various query variables from each gallery.
As such, Google has been not so smart and has been HAMMERING the server to the tune of 4 gigs an hour prior to my actions, and about 800 requests a minute on the same page sending the server load up to 30 at one point.
It's been about 12 hours, and regardless of the changes I've made, Google is not listening (yet) and is still hammering away.
My question is: Is there a way to contact Google support and tell them to shut their misbehaving bot down on a particular website?
I want a more immediate solution as I do not enjoy the server being bombarded.
Before you say it, even though this isn't what I'm asking about, I've done the following:
Redirected all traffic using the misused query variable back to the Googlebot IP in hopes that the bot being forwarded back to itself will be a wake up call that something is not right with the URL. (I don't care if this is a bad idea)
Blocking the most active IP address from accessing that site.
Disabled the URLs from being created by the troubled plugin.
In Google Webmaster Tools/Search Console, I've set the URL parameters to "No: Doesn't affect page content" for the query variables.
Regardless of all of this, Google is still hammering away at 800 requests per minute/13 requests a second.
Yes, I could just wait it out, but I'm looking for a "HEY GOOGLE! STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING!" solution besides being patient and allowing resources to be wasted.

questions about facebook oauth migration

When Oct 1 rolls around, I want to make sure my games are covered. So in that light, I have a couple of questions.
I understand I need to offer SSL version, which is done, but does that mean that the http version is going away? or will it just mean that all apps will require both versions, rather than being able to leave one blank?
With the dashboard increment calls going away, what prompts the system to add a [1] next to the app in the sidebar when the player has something they need to do? unless the app has some way of telling the facebook server that a user has some task they need to perform, how is that going to increment?
with the new "manage_notifications" permission, does this imply that after a long haitus, apps will once again be able to post messages to a users notification drop down? which would be great and would make the previous dashboard question void.
thanks for your help!
The SSL version is required for your users who have secure browsing enabled in their security settings. Without an https version your app is not accessible to users who opt for secure browsing.
The [1] that you see next to the apps is the number of pending requests sent using the request Dialog.

is it possible to know where the user is coming from when he uses the back button?

For example,
if user goes to google -> example.com -> newwebsite.com
If he goes back to example.com, the http-referrer page will still be google.com
How can I detect that he went to newwebsite.com
I believe that the back button will send the HTTP headers that were sent to the site the first time around, since it's not really a new visit.
Say you displayed an error page if the user's http-referrer was newwebsite.com. The first time they visited, they would get your site. If they went to newwebsite.com, and then hit back (meaning they wanted to go back in time, through their browser history, not load the page again with new headers), then they would get an error page, and the nature of the back button would be defeated. I don't know if this inspires that behavior or not, it just makes sense to me that way.
Maybe it's possible, but it would be entirely browser-dependent. Why do you need this functionality, anyway? Newwebsite isn't referring the user to your website at all, there's no connection between the two at all--it just happens to be the last page that the user visited.
If a visitor uses the back button, the page might be loaded from browser cache. In that case, no referrer is sent.
Using google analytics, you can see how many visitors came from a given web site. This might give you some information.
I don't believe that this is generally possible. You could pull tricks with javascript on your site so that all the links navigated from there could be detected and recorded, but once the users off your site you've got no control.
If you provided the browser, ie. developed your one yourself, then you could choose to expose the browser history via an api.
http://jeremiahgrossman.blogspot.com/2006/08/i-know-where-youve-been.html
Describes a technique for exploiting the browsers agreement to modify links to indicate that they have been traversed (eg. changing the colour of the link) so that visited sites can be detected, however this only works for a pre-declared set of links, it's not a generally applicable approach.
My feeling is that attempts to hide the nature of browsers - users can hop around all over the place - tend to lead to unsatisfactory 79% solutions that mystify users.
What problem are you actually trying to solve?
You can use sessions inorder to track the path of pages.it really works wwell.try it.
