I'm new to the whole iOS development thing but I have completed my first app and now wish to deploy to my iPhone for final testing round.
However, I have a yellow dot next to my device and the message tells me that iOS 5.1 is not supported and that I need to get the latest SDK's.
I have done that but still the error persists insisting that the highest iOS i can test is 5.0.
I'm not going to go back to 5.0 on my iPhone as that would just be stupid.
I have the latest updates for Snow Leopard, latest updates for xCode 4.
Anyone know what I need to do for me to be able to use my iPhone?
Xcode 4 max supported iOS is 5.0, as your phone is iOS 5.1 it is not possible to install your app directly with Xcode. You have two solutions:
1/ Either you install Xcode 4.3.2 (iOS 5.1), but you need to install Mac OS X Lion (10.7)
2/ Or create an adhoc version of your app (it is explained on Apple web site), and use this software to install your app on your phone : http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1465?viewlocale=fr_FR&locale=fr_FR

I would like to test an application on my iPhone and iPad.
The iPhone is running 5.1 and the iPad is running 5.1.1
I am getting this error:
Xcode cannot run using the selected device. No provisioned iOS devices are available with a compatible iOS version. Connect an iOS
device with a recent enough version of iOS to run your application or
choose an iOS simulator as the destination.
I have a developer's license and have followed the provisioning wizard in the Apple website members section. I've installed everything like it said (certificate, provisioning profile in keychain, etc..) but am still getting this error.
I've tried compiling it on 4.3, 4.2, 4.1, and basically all of the options that are available in the build section.
In the Xcode Organizer, my devices show up with an Orange icon next to them. This is the 'error' message on this screen:
The version of iOS on “Personal iPad” does not match any of the
versions of iOS supported for development with this installation of
the iOS SDK. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed
below, or update to the latest version of the iOS SDK; which is
available here.
This is all on VMWare on OS X 10.6.7.
I've read the other posts where people had a similar problem and tried the solutions proposed (which were mostly comprised of trying to run on older builds) and nothing worked so far.
Notice how you are compiling with an SDK version less than the version on your devices? That's a problem. For iOS 5 you need at least Xcode 4.2 (which comes with the 5.1 SDK).
Got the developer certificate to test app on iphone entered device identifier, connected iphone as a device in the organizer it shows yellow light. In software version it shows 5.1 as installed on iphone device. It displays that it does not match any of the versions of iOS supported for development with this installation of the iOS SDK. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below
Xcode Supported iOS Versions

5.0 (9A334)
4.3 (8F190)
4.3
4.2
4.1
4.0.2

Eventhough got latest version but still i restored iphone but still got yellow light not changing to green any idea how to fix this issue.
Thanks for help.
If you are using xcode 4.2 and base SDK 5.0 than you can't test the app on your phone which has an OS version 5.1.
The general rule is that if you want your XCODE to detect the device for testing, the OS version on your phone should always be less than or equal to the base SDK (latest) supported by your XCODE.(And so should be the targeted OS version for the app)
Base SDK 5.1 is supported by XCODE 4.3 which only works on LION-X.
Hoping this helps.
It sounds like you don't have Mac OS X Lion.
Apple no longer supports Snow Leopard as a development OS. iOS 5.0 was the final version released on Snow Leopard.
It sounds like your iPhone has been updated to v5.1. If you update your OS to Lion, you'll be allowed to install v5.1 of the iOS software from apple's developer website, and continue developing and testing your apps like normal. Sorry to say though, this is impossible with Snow Leopard, which is why your organizer says "Please revert your iPhone iOS to v5.0, because that's the only thing I can support"
My iPhone has version 4.2.8 (8E401). I don't want to update it as I'm writing a 4.2 app right now and want to test with my phone. I installed iOS5 Beta 7 on my Mac a few weeks ago and was able to see my phone listed in the Device List to Run/Debug my app along with the various Simulatior choices since then.
Last evening, though, all of a sudden it doesn't recognize my phone. The only phone device listed is the generic 'iOS Device'. When I look at my phone information in XCode's Organizer, it has a question mark next to my device name and a yellow dot. It also displays this message:
The version of iOS on “My iPhone” does not match any of the versions of iOS supported for development with this installation of the iOS SDK. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below, or update to the latest version of the iOS SDK; which is available here. OS Installed on My iPhone 4.2.8 (8E401). Xcode Supported iOS Versions
Latest 5.0 (9A5313e)
Is there a way to get the iOS 5 XCode to recognize my iPhone OS version without having to upgrade (which I don't want to do just yet) or have to restore to a previous version?
Seems like this message just popped up without me making any changes to my iPhone or iOS installation. Any work-around would be appreciated.
Thanks
My iphoneos 3.1 based application is not working on iOS 4 GM: the camera is not showing in full screen, it doesn't correctly detects compass information, the uiwebviews doesn't respond to touches (they don't scroll), and so on. It's completely broken! Now my question is: how can I develop an update using the latest xcode with support for ios 4? The latest iOS 4 xcode (3.2.3) doesn't provide any way to develop for iPhoneOS 3.x ("base sdk missing"). By the other side, xcode 3.2.2 would not allow me to debug it on a iOS 4 device, so I can't test it.
In Xcode, you can use a later base SDK while targeting an earlier version.
Go into your project settings and set iPhone OS Deployment Target to an earlier version, such as "iPhone OS 3.1".
I would create a second disk partition and install the 4.0 version of xcode on that. Keep the 3.2 version on your primary drive.
Its probably not necessary to create a second disk partition but it was simple to do.
Install the 4.0 sdk under a different folder and then re-install the 3.2 sdk and develop in that.
I've just installed Xcode 3.2.2 with iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 5 (Snow Leopard)
This version of Xcode didn't come with any iPhone SDKs older than 3.0. But I want to create an app that runs on all devices from iPhone OS 2.2.1 -> 3.1.3.
I managed to add older SDKs into Xcode by downloading iPhone 3.1.3 with Xcode 3.1.4 and installing each 2.x SDK from the 'Packages' folder in the .dmg. So now I can select 2.2.1 as 'iPhone OS Deployment Target' and the 'Base SDK' as 3.1.3, and the app will build (thus letting me use 3.1.3 APIs with conditional coding whilst still running on 2.2.1 devices).
But the problem is the app will not install and run on my 2.2.1 iPod Touch. Instead, Xcode tells me 'No provisioned iPhone OS device is connected'. If I bring up the Organizer, in the left column, the iPod Touch has an orange sphere next to it, instead of green, and clicking on this reveals:
'The version of iPhone OS on “iPod touch” is too old for use with this version of the iPhone SDK. Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below'
I'm not sure how to get this version of the SDK to support 2.2.1.
(It needs to be this download of Xcode/iPhone SDK because I also want it to be a universal binary so it runs on the iPad with a minimum of fuss).
While under NDA, I can't be more explicit than to tell you to read this thread in the Apple Developer Forums, which includes an explanation of this problem.
As far as I know, Apple recently made the 3.x updates available free of charge. I don't think there are any users out there still on 2.x!
