How to define what will be inserted in share message? - facebook

I have an app with blog records per each user. I have add share button to my app, to give ability to post interesting blog records to users time line or to send to other user. But in default it takes image and text for share as it wants and not always correctly. So I find out that it can be dirven by meta tags (using for example "image" property to set image for share dialog). That's work ok on main page (where I'd like to make ability share with whole application), but on pages of blog records I cann`t customize it. meta tag should be in , but all info (short text and image of blog post) I get later in body, so I can insert it. How can I manage with this? Or may be there is another way to share content with?

What blog engine are you using? If it is a wordpress - try this plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/facebook-share-new/ from offician facebook docs http://developers.facebook.com/docs/. Otherwise I'd suggest to find a facebook plugin for your blog engine using google and install it.

facebook comments widget - how to monitor latest comments?

I have over 10,000 pages on my website. I just created a php script to automatically integrate the facebook comments widget into each pages.
However, i was wondering if there is a way to monitor the latest comments added to my website so i don't have to browse through 10,000 pages to see the latest comments.
I am also wondering if i will be able to delete comments by other users ? How can facebook tell that i am the webmaster of the page ? If some user leave nasty comments on one of the pages i want to be able to delete them
Facebook's Graph API allows you to query for Facebook data, including comments. It's pretty easy to use but does require a bit of code to make web requests, parse JSON, etc. You can pass in filters, such as only wanting comments after a certain date, which makes querying for "new comments" simple.
The API will return all comments (even those deleted by you; afaik there is no way to tell whether a particular comment has been deleted). The results are returned in pages, so importing a lot of comments can take a bit (as you need multiple round-trips). Also, there is no way to use the API to delete posts - this has to go through the Facebook web pages (or some other means I don't know about).
The documentation pages are pretty exhaustive and will explain how to get started.

How to show facebook comments box multiple times on a page?

I have a page for a bakery site, and on the page, there will be a list of cakes. There will be a picture of the cake, followed by a comments box, to let people comment on that specific cake. Each cake will need to have its own set of comments, separate from each other.
But unless I'm mistaken, facebook comment plugin is linked to a page's url, and can't be shown multiple times?
Is there any way to show it multiple times per page, and to link it individually to each cake, so the comments don't mix up?
But unless I'm mistaken, facebook comment plugin is linked to a page's
url, and can't be shown multiple times?
It can be shown.Though it is linked with your site url,you always have the privilage of appending custom string after the ternerary operator in your URL.
Is there any way to show it multiple times per page, and to link it
individually to each cake, so the comments don't mix up?
The trick here is to make a url unique.
This can be done in various ways:
1)www.something.com#commentbox1
2)www.something.com?section=commentbox1
I am using this on my current website where there are more than 10 comment boxes:http://www.arrowlife.com/
In addition to unique anchor tags per product, you may also add the product ID in a query string such as www.yoursite.com?productID=44
In my case I was dynamically creating a div showing the product detail. It was also necessary to force the Facebook script to show the comment section using the FP.XFBML.parse command

Including captions in app generated images

I am having a doubt regarding the Facebook policies. It is being stated that:
IV. Application Integration Points
.....
You must not pre-fill any of the fields associated with the following products, unless the user manually generated the content
earlier in the workflow: Stream stories (user_message parameter for
Facebook.streamPublish and FB.Connect.streamPublish, and message
parameter for stream.publish), Photos (caption), Videos (description),
Notes (title and content), Links (comment), and Jabber/XMPP.
.....
Source: https://developers.facebook.com/policy/
And from the examples & explanation page, it says the following for Photos:
You must not pre-fill Photo captions unless the user manually
generated the content earlier in the workflow. These fields are
intended for users to express themselves. Pre-filling these fields
erodes the authenticity of the user voice.
So, my question is: I have seen 99% of the apps (that I used), is auto-filling caption field for photos with say, something like: You can try it by visiting here: http://www.apps.blahblah.com/appname
Isn't that against the facebook policy ? Or they are not flagged because they are using the extended permissions(publish_stream) instead of the post_actions ?
If it is not allowed for both the permissions, then my next question is, how would we tell the users viewing the photo, the link to the app so that these audiences can also try the app ?
Also, if possible, I would like to see a small example of the caption that would be generated in the workflow as mentioned here in the policies: ...You must not pre-fill any of the fields associated with the following products, unless the user manually generated the content earlier in the workflow....
Thanks in advance.
It is against policies, but many apps do it nevertheless.
I think a compromise would be to have the user enter their own message, and then just append a little link to the end of that before posting it.
As for the example, what exactly would you like to know/see? You have the user put in a message through a text field/input box/whatever, and set that as the message while posting the image.
Currently its forbidden. User should fill the whole caption text. Adding anything to it also is also forbidden.
You can watch the Facebook policy video about pre-filling here:

How to setup redirects for a large number of posts

I am working on a major site migration for alpinezone.com . As part of that migration, I moved all the news articles from vbulletin into wordpress cms. The vbulletin articles were previousyl pulled out via a plugin called GARS.
In any event, I have 3400 news articles over the course of five years or so. They are presently in the following format:
news.alpinezone.com/12345
If the title of the news article was "Sugarloaf Sets World Record" then the new location will be
alpinezone.com/sugarloaf-sets-world-record/
Is there a way for me to automate creating the necessary redirects that take the title from the literal page 12345 and convert into a URL?
Finally; the additional trick is that since I did a VB upgrade the existing news articles no longer show up. So going to news.alpinezone.com/12345 won't show anything right now, you need to pull up the forum thread (which is typically hidden) by taking that identifier and going to http://forums.alpinezone.com/showthread.php?12345 to see the actual title. I can pull all this from the WP database, (since all the posts are from a user AlpineZone News).
Any ideas? I'm fairly new to this and the added complexity of subdomains is somethign I am trying to figure out. Thx!
you could make your own showthread.php file in the correct location it was previously located.
have it use the passed id, retrieve the associated record from your database.
Construct the new url by turning the title to lowercase and changing spaces to - and do a redirect via header('Location: new url here');

The title, link and description don't work

I've been reading guides and examples for a long time (hours) but I can't manage. I tried to use all html meta tag like title, description, and og:property. Also tried to use the link sharer and also to create a new blank page with just the info I want to share to facebook in order to test. Also I tried to generate an random url in php so to have always a different url variable (the url to share and also the url of the main page containing the script). I also grabbed (url linter) a lot of time the url to clean the cache of facebook. It always give me the title of the site domain as title or the url itself as the shared title and description. I don't know what to do.
The main web site is from joomla. In the code of index of joomla I put a php include if the url has the variable "articolo" id. This incuded php page has regulat head body etc. So maybe I facebook check the main meta of joomla first? So now I tried to open a popup with just the page for sharing. Look here: link
It's possible that the title is locked in, meaning that after X number of likes Facebook doesn't allow you to change it anymore. Can you give us an example URL you're having issues with?
EDIT
Ok, now the link you provided shows some very interesting output. http://modernolatina.it/wjs/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=96&Itemid=258&autore=6&articolo=6
First, you webserver, instead of sending back a 200 code, is sending back a 500 code.
Secondly the HTML your webserver is sending back has two HTML tags (Do a view source on the content returned)
Fix up those two issues and I think the linter will be happier with your page.
