Possible to have multiple buttons in a StatusItem on MacOS?

I'm trying to build a timer app on MacOS that would show the remaining time in the status bar.
Wondering if it's possible to show multiple buttons there at once? E.g. show play/pause button, reset button and the time right in the status bar.
Or are there any hacks possible, like make it a single button with 2 icons next to each other, and check the click position to see which "button" got the click?
I know I can put the extra buttons in a popover, but I'm new to MacOS dev and trying to understand the limits. Thanks!

How to show number small custom icon like mail, iphone

I have a social networking app. I have a button and based on the click on the button I need to show a small icon on the top right corner of the button. it is a custom color and text.
I know to show the default system number icon for like the one for unread mail you can get it from the shared application badge count. But I am trying to do something custom here.
I am thinking of building my own imageview (its background will be a custom png) and then within it a small text to show the number.
Anyone has experience with this and can recommend a better way?
You can add a imageView with badge image as the subvie of that button.
There is a lot of custom badge controls available.
Please check the following links.

You cannot change anything on the home screen besides for the app icon, name, and badge value. Do you mean on the home screen or on a tab bar?
UPDATE
If you mean a badge in the app, not on the homescreen, checkout #MidhunMP's answer to find links on how to do this. I have used http://www.spaulus.com/2011/04/custombadge-2-0-retina-ready-scalable-light-reflex/?lang=en before successfully.

How do I get a pop-up to display on my iphone application?

I would like to know how to display a pop-up with some text, in an iphone application that I am developing. The part of the app I am talking about consists of some text pulled in from a plist file, all this happens in a view controller object which also consists of a button. When the user presses the button, I would like to show a pop-up window (not a small alert like the one obtained using UIAlertView but one similar to the pop-up ads that appear when you launch certain apps on the iphone, with the background dim and a window with a close button etc etc..), ya so anyway I would like to know how to achieve this, mainly if there is any pre-defined class that can make this happen. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
You could use MBProgressHUD for this. You can add custom views in it and it also has the dimBackground property to dim the containing view and many other useful things.

iPhone UI: No edit button for UITableView, bad idea?

I have a UITableViewController which lets the user drill down into different records. On the second level/view, the user can add and edit new records. But, I am not sure what to do, since the back button is on the top left, and I need to put the "Add" button on the top right, so there is no room (keeping to HIG) for the edit button, which would normally go where the back button is. (I am using a tab bar, so can't put it at the bottom.)
Do you think that it is logical, to expect users to know to swipe to delete a record? Or, do I need to have an edit button? If I DO need an edit button, where should I put it if I am following HIG?
Swipe to delete is a firmly established iphone UI interaction, so yes I would be comfortable expecting users to know that. We've run into the same problem a few times, and yeah you only get two nav bar buttons so you've got to make a choice. If you're already using the bottom for a tab bar, I don't see many other options.
I have a similar situation in my app.
When the user taps the edit button I show an extra table cell at the end of my table which lets them add a new record. Not sure if that's feasible in your case.
Maybe add it at the beginning, or insert a button just above the UITableView? You could then also label the button "Add/Edit" to make it clear that that's how they can add new records, although I haven't done that.
Another option would be to have that extra button or table cell always visible.
