After following every step from how to create a certificate till adding provisional certificate to Xcode, I am unable to load the application on the iphone.
I am using Xcode 4.2 iOs 5 and trying to load application on iOS 4.1 [iPhone 3G ].
When I run other sample apps on my device, it successfully installs and runs.
My app gets buld successfully and I have configured the buld settings of my app according to my iOS.
What could be the probable reason?
Please help.
For testing purposes only, my app consists of a lone UIButton, thats it.
In application build settings set deployment target lower then your device ios. Xcode templates starts with 5.0, hope this helps.

Check out the post Is it possible to target older iOS versions when using Xcode 4.2 and iOS 5 SDK? answered by mmorris.
It helped me out.

Recently, I uploaded my application to Apple store from XCode 4.x with OS 10.7. After that I upgraded my machine with Xcode 5.0 to start with iOS 7. Now I downloaded my application from the Apple' store to iPhone 4S with iOS 7 installed. I see application's UI on device is totally different from the iOS 7 simulator. On device navigation and Tab bar are old fashioned like iOS 6 while I am expecting like iOS 7.
I think the reason behind this that the application has been uploaded from XCode 4.x and when I will upload it from Xcode 5 it will show the latest UI of iOS7.
Do anyone facing the same problem? Do you think Apple should do it itself?
You understand it right. Applications must build and updated on xCode 5 for showing the new iOS design.
You must check your app on xCode 5 before uploading it as "iOS7 ready", Note that your app might work fine with the old design on iOS 6 but no one can check that for you as they might be UI problems and even crashes depending on your old UI and code.
If you are using 100% iOS native interface you should not have to much work.
You are app is built on iOS 6 SDK, To use iOS 7 UI features, build your app using iOS 7 SDK. iOS 7SDK will be available with xCode 5. SO upgrade to xCode 5 and build app against base SDK 7.
Xcode 7 doesn't exists ;)
Your problem is that you compiled your app with Xcode 4. Only Xcode 5 is embedding iOS 7 SDK. If you want to solve your problem you have to submit your app again but compiled with Xcode 5.
(don't forget to set your correct deployment target)
Is is possible to submit the app with base SDK iOS5.1 and with Default-568h#2x.png, so that application will not leave an extra black space?
Our normal application is working fine on iPhone5 leaving a black space from top and bottom, but if we just include "Default-568h#2x.png", will it work fine (the view displayed in complete area of iPhone5)?
There are lots of dependencies to support iOS6, so is it possible to submit the app with "Default-568h#2x.png" and base SDK iOS5.1?
It is impossible to submit the iPhone 5 full screen app which is built with Xcode 4.4.1 and iOS 5.1 SDK. I did the same thing to support both old devices of armv6/iOS 3.x and iPhone 5. But I got this reject message from itunesconnect. I think it is the new policy of App Store.
"Invalid Launch Image - You app contains a launch image with a size modifier that is only supported for apps built with the iOS 6.0 SDK or later."
just edit the size of Default-568h#2x.png with the same one of Default#x2.png splash screens, don't rename it, adjust only it size, it's how it worked for me, seems the binary does gets faked, my app it's waiting for the review don't know yet if will be approved.
I do not see any policy from Apple to forbid developers to submit apps based on SDK 5.1. My understanding is that if you develop on SDK 5.1 you should also test your app on iOS 6.
Having said that, iOS 6 SDK provides good features to help developers manage the layout, and Apple surely wants the developers to use the latest.
To avoid "Invalid Launch Image" problem on submitting app with iPhone 5 launch image using XCode 4.4.1, please following these steps:
Archive your App under XCode 4.5
Open Organizer, show your App folder in Finder, enter your App’s Products/Applications folder, copy Info.plist and archived-expanded-entitlements.xcent to your home folder.
Open your Info.plist (~/Info.plist) using XCode, and modify MinimumOSVersion from 4.3 to 4.0
Close XCode 4.5 and open XCode 4.4.1, open your App project and open your Target’s “Build Phrases” tab, add a Run Script, with shell “/bin/sh” and “cp -f ~/Info.plist ~/archived-expanded-entitlements.xcent “${TARGET_BUILD_DIR}/${EXECUTABLE_NAME}.app”
Re-archive your App, and it should pass App Store’s rule checker and in “Waiting for review” soon.
The app I submitted late October got online in early November. Someone said he used XCode 4.3.2 to submit app in the same way. It should be working for XCode 4.*

I submitted by mid-feb my binary compiled on Xcode3.2.6 and only had the Default.png, my App got rejected due to a bug related to the 4" screens, some stupid sizing junk, fixed it and tested on Xcode4.6/SDK6.1 which requires that 568h#2x.png file, I added that image to my set , still compiled it on 3.2.6 and submitted my fix and it got automatically rejected with the same msg as here.
Then I just pulled that 568 file out and resubmitted hoping that since it went thru about 2 weeks ago it'd get past again, I triple checked my code on sdk6.1, recompiled/ressubmitted and got the same rejection so it seems like they are enforcing that min Xcode version NOW.
BUT .... guess what? I cleaned everything and twice and rebuilt & decided to give it a last shot, resubmitted and it passed!!! I'm on waiting 4 review now.
I've solved that issue the following way: I'm using iOS SDK 5.1 and Xcode 4.4.1.
Now I've added simply the Default-568h#2x.png to the upper folder of my App in Xcode but not with Xcode 4.5.1.
Then I've built the App through iPhone 5.1 Simulator and finally I've quit the Simulator.
Then go to ../users/myNameUser/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/5.1/Applications/... search for your App and Copy the complete folder (e.g. F83221EA-1HB4-4947-9DH4-43D8QZ3FFEA3).
Then go to ../users/myNameUser/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/6.0/Applications/ and paste in the copied folder from the 5.1 Simulator.
Finally open your Applications folder go to your Xcode App (4.5.1) then right click and show package content: Go to ../contents/applications/ and double click "iPhone Simulator.app".
Now you are running the new iPhone Simulator with your iOS SDK 5.1 App. Great job? Now you can change the hardware of the simulator to the new iPhone Retina-4-inch.
And you can see how your App will look like on the new iPhone 5.
I've sent my new App version by that way for review - well see if it'll get through.
(Sent with: Xcode 4.4.1 and iPhone 5 support like described on top)
By the way it could be interesting to run Apps from Xcode 4.4 on real iOS 6 Device?
How to do that: Use iOS 6 device for testing with Xcode 4.4 and iOS 5 SDK
I have created an app using Xcode 4.3 and iOS 5.0, but I recently found out I need to also support 4.3.x devices. I changed my Deployment target to 4.3, but then I got the infamous storyboard error:
Storyboards are unavailable on iOS 4.3 and prior
So, how do I create an app that targets both? I can get my app to build using the post here but then my app shows the launch screen and then goes blank.
You can't. Storyboard is only available on iOS 5.0 or higher.
If you want to support iOS 4.3 you need to remove all the storyboard code and go back to using not nib/viewcontroller way of building your UI.
I've been having trouble getting my app to run in this configuration. Has anyone figured out how to do this? Currently, my app doesn't even show up when I try to run on the device.
iOS5 is not supported by iPod Touch 2nd Gen.
No wonder why you're having trouble ;)
You should set Deployment target of your Project to lower firmware version (f.e. 4.3), because iOS 5 is still beta, we are not allowed to run the aps on it.
If my deployment target is set to iOS 4.1 and submitted to apple, and they test the app on iOS 4.3, would that cause the app to malfunction? My app was rejected for a bug that I am unable to recreate on my iPhone 4. The exact same device model they tested the app on. I simply cannot find the bug or error in my code. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
If you build your app to target iOS 4.1 it should run on iOS 4.3. It's possible that your app does something that works on 4.1 but causes a problem on 4.3; I had that myself with an app already in the store, and had to post an update so it worked correctly under a newer iOS release.
Note that you can tell the iOS Simulator what version iOS to simulate: on the Hardware menu, select Version, and subsequent runs will be tested against that version of the system libraries.
The simulator is not a perfect reproduction of a real device, but hopefully you can do this to reproduce the behavior that Apple has seen on their devices.
Did you test it on your iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3? There's two parts to the puzzle. If they rejected it for crashing under iPhone 4, you have to check all the different iOS versions you claim to support. The target iOS 4.1 should still make it work on 4.3, you just might have a crash (which apparently you do). Through testing with that actual software version on your iPhone, you'll find the bug and hopefully squash it. Good luck!
