Change the start y axies of rightBarButtonItem - iphone

I've the following Custom Button on rightBarButtonItem
UIButton *button1 = [[UIButton alloc] init];
button1.frame=CGRectMake(0,0,105,30);
[button1 setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed: #"image1.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button1 addTarget:appDelegate action:#selector(Open_Link1) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:button1];
[button1 release];
I need to move the rightBarButtonItem up 2 px ...
I've tried set it but doesn't work!

button1.imageEdgeInsets = UIEdgeInsetsMake(-4, 0, 0, 0);
The answer here: Can I change the position of navigationbar item?
Beware, you change insets of the button that to be assigned to the rightBarButtonItem, not the rightBarButtonItem itself.

Try to change this button1.frame=CGRectMake(0,0,105,30); to button1.frame=CGRectMake(0,-2,105,30);

How do I change the location of the back button on iOS?

You see I am making a completely custom navigation bar and when i create the back button it doesn't stay in the right place as you can see below the code.
here is my code for the app
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
if(self.navigationController.viewControllers.count > 1) {
UIButton *backButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[backButton setTitle:#"" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"backButton.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[backButton addTarget:self action:#selector(didTapBackButton:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
backButton.frame = CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 44.0f, 45.0f);
UIBarButtonItem *backButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:backButton];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = backButtonItem;
}
}
I think you can just modify contentEdgeInsets to make the position of the button.
Something like this:
[backButton setContentEdgeInsets:UIEdgeInsetsMake(5, 0, -5, 0)];
Come from UIButton Class Reference
contentEdgeInsets
The inset or outset margins for the rectangle surrounding all of the button’s content.
#property(nonatomic) UIEdgeInsets contentEdgeInsets
DiscussionUse this property to resize and reposition the effective drawing rectangle for the button content. The content comprises the button image and button title. You can specify a different value for each of the four insets (top, left, bottom, right). A positive value shrinks, or insets, that edge—moving it closer to the center of the button. A negative value expands, or outsets, that edge. Use the UIEdgeInsetsMake function to construct a value for this property. The default value is UIEdgeInsetsZero.
You can render a larger image with some spacing on the left.
UIImage *origImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"button-thin-hamburger.png"];
UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(CGSizeMake(origImage.size.width + 10, origImage.size.height), NO, 0.0);
[origImage drawInRect:CGRectMake(10, 0, origImage.size.width, origImage.size.height)];
UIImage *buttonImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext();
UIGraphicsEndImageContext();
UIBarButtonItem *backButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:#""
style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain
target:nil
action:nil];
self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = backButton;
[[UINavigationBar appearance] setBackIndicatorImage:buttonImage];
[[UINavigationBar appearance] setBackIndicatorTransitionMaskImage:buttonImage];
Well you can't change, you have to hide it.
Look at this page posted here:

Can't change back button title but I can hide it
you need to hide NavigationBar first...
[self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:YES animated:NO];
then create Custom UIButton..
UIButton *btn1=[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[btn1 setFrame:CGRectMake(10, 0, 60, 40)];// Frame u want
[btn1 setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"BT_ipad_P_backbward#2x.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[btn1 addTarget:self action:#selector(Click_backward:) forControlEvents: UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
btn1.tintColor=[UIColor purpleColor];
[self.view addSubview:btn1];

rightbarbuttonitem not showing up?

NOTE: I can get this to work by switching leftbarbuttonitem to rightbarbutton item in my barbutton and barbutton2 methods. I'm just curious to know why it won't work normally!
For some strange reason, my leftbarbuttonitem is showing, but my rightbarbuttonitem just never pops up! Here's my code
-(void)barButton {
image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"BBut.png"];
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[button setBackgroundImage: [image stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:7.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button setBackgroundImage: [[UIImage imageNamed: #"BBut.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:7.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(showlocations:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.frame= CGRectMake(3.0, 0.0, image.size.width+1, image.size.height+0);
UIView *v=[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(3.0, 0.0, image.size.width+1, image.size.height) ];
[v addSubview:button];
UIBarButtonItem *modal = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:v];
self.navigation.leftBarButtonItem = modal;
-(void)barButton2 {
image2 = [UIImage imageNamed:#"Refresh.png"];
UIButton *button2 = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[button2 setBackgroundImage: [image2 stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:0.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button2 setBackgroundImage: [[UIImage imageNamed: #"Refresh.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:0.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted];
// [button2 addTarget:self action:#selector(viewDidLoad) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button2.frame= CGRectMake(281.0, 5.0, image2.size.width, image2.size.height);
UIView *v2=[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(281.0, 5.0, image2.size.width, image2.size.height) ];
[v2 addSubview:button2];
UIBarButtonItem *refresh = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:v2]; self.navigation.rightBarButtonItem = refresh;
NSLog(#"THE ACTION HAS BEEN RECIEVED!"); }
In my ViewDidLoad Method, I have this:
[self barButton2];
[self barButton];
The action does go through and I do receive my NSLog method. Does anyone know why this is happening? The Left Bar Button always shows up and if I change the the first barbutton to rightbarbuttonitem and change the barbutton2 to leftbarbutton item, and then change the CGRect coords, it works, and that's what I'm using right now to get it to work, but why is this happening? Thanks in advance.
You don't see the right button because you are drawing it outside the screen.
The button2 X coordinate is set to 281.0 and its parent view X coordinate is also set at 281.0. As a result your button is in x = 562, meaning it is outside the screen.
Set your button2 X coordinate to 0 and see if that helps:
button2.frame= CGRectMake(0.0, 5.0, image2.size.width, image2.size.height);
You seem to be creating a new view with each action and adding a button. So, you never see both buttons. You will need to access the same view in both the actions to make sure you add two button subviews.

Problems with BackButtonItem

Well, I have a NavigationController with a diferent color and I want the back button to also have a background image, a highlighted background image, and a custom text color. How can I do this? I have tried lots of things but I havent been able to change this backbutton.
I guess you have to create your own custom button.
Create a custom UIBarButtonItem that suits your requirement.
Assign this Custom UIBarButtonItem to the leftBarButtonItem of the NavigationItem.
You can only point to the leftBarButtonItem, since the backBarButtonItem is ReadOnly.
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = aCustomBarButtonItem;
self.navigationItem.hidesBackButton = YES;
Hope this helps...
EDIT
Code that can help :
UIButton *aCustomButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[aCustomButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back1.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[aCustomButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back2.png"] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted];
[aCustomButton addTarget:self action:#selector(onClickOfBack) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[aCustomButton setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 50, 40)];
UIBarButtonItem *aCustomBarButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:aCustomButton];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = aCustomBarButton;
[aCustomBarButton release];

How to change the color of barButtonItem?

On a navigationBar as a rightBarButtonItem I take edit button by the following coding
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem=self.editButtonItem;
but I want to change the color of edit button I mean I want to change the color of rightBarButtonItem. How can I do this?
plz reply as early as possible.
thanx in advance.
You will need to create a custom button and initialize your UIBarButtonItem using initWithCustomView.
Create your UIButton as you like if with your custom image and then:
UIBarButtonItem *barButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:yourUIButton];
You are constrained making standard UIBarButtonItem. But you can init it with any UIView of your choice, e.g. standard UIButton which you can color as you like.
UIButton *myButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
myButton.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 30, 20); // change as you like being constrained with navigation bar hieght
[myButton setTitle:#"My Button" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[myButton setTitleColor:[UIColor redColor] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[myButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"Image for my button.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; // <-- you can provide image instaed of title if you like
[myButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"Background image for my button.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[myButton addTarget:self action:#selector(myAction) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; // <-- don't forget configure this!!!
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:myButton];
Visit this link. It is kind of same answer.
specially indicating or highlighting a toolbar button when a note is added in iphone
Usage of method [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:btnInfo]; can help.

How to give style in left nav bar button in iphone

I added 2 button with images in top left navigation bar. But I am getting problem in its style. Here is my screenshot of button. And this is code of button which I have written in application.
UIView *viewButtons = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 150, 32)];
UIButton *button1 = [[UIButton alloc] init];
button1.frame=CGRectMake(0,0,40,35);
[button1 setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed: #"remainder.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button1 addTarget:self action:#selector(sortByremainder) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[viewButtons addSubview:button1];
UIButton *button2 = [[UIButton alloc] init];
button2.frame=CGRectMake(45,0,60,35);
[button2 setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed: #"like_symbol.jpg"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button2 addTarget:self action:#selector(sortByMostFaved) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[viewButtons addSubview:button1];
[viewButtons addSubview:button2];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:viewButtons];
[viewButtons release];
But i want my button style should be like this image. I want to keep images in button but below screen is more specific with button. It has border and convex area.
For that you need to use grayscale images and that would look better. See example like attached.
You need to use UIBarButtonItem and set this type of images in that and that assign that UIBarButtonItem to self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem.
Also, Use BarButtonItemStyle Border like below so you will get as you want.
UIBarButtonItem *btnSetting = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"setting.png"] style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target:self action:#selector(setting:)];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = btnSetting;
