currently I am working on a project designed for the Hololens 2 using MRTK.
Now I want to make this app run on a mobile device (more specifially, an Android Smartphone) like any other AR app. Eventually these two should be able to communicate with each other. What would be the best way to go about it? The following ideas crossed my mind:
Copying and adapting the current scene made for Hololens by replacing Hololens exclusive features with ARCore features.
Creating a new project just for the mobile app.
Would love to hear your suggestions and ideas, thanks!
MRTK supports a wide range of platforms, including mobile devices such as iOS and Android. You can use the MRTK API directly on your Android device instead of ARcore. For how to configure MRTK for iOS and Android please refer to this link:Configure MRTK for iOS and Android [Experimental]
Right now, I think there is not a way to do it within Unity. This is what I have found so far (please, correct me if I'm wrong):
The most popular VR plugins compatible with Unity for both Android and iPhone are Durovis Dive SDK and Google Cardboard SDK.
I have read that most Android phones are compatible with those VR plugins. My experience is that just a few are compatible. Durovis Dive SDK seems to be the most compatible one nowadays. If the Android phone has not gyroscope and the game has the Google Cardboard SDK plugin, the game won't load or crash. If the Android phone has not gyroscope, the game will load but the image will be still when we move the phone.
Unity 5.3 has been just released. It includes WebGL support. It includes VR support. Samsung Gear and Occulus are supported. However, I have not found out anything about the compatibility with others Android or iPhone devices. Maybe it works (I have not test it. I have not found somebody who has test it yet).
Here there is a list with VR technology for the web.
We can find stuff to Export an Unity scene to Three.js. Scripts and animations don't seem to work though.
I just spoke with an industry leader in VR experiences for media companies a couple weeks ago. And his company was one of the first to attempt VR in a web browser through mobile. He said it didn't work very well. He was partially successful, but if his company had problems, I'm guessing it's still a few years off. He said new additions to HTML are coming that will improve this over the next few years.
Hope that helps!
could you try WEBVR
YouTube Tutorial: Demo WebVR Unity
Although it has some defects, but it can serve you for basic applications. I was testing it with 360 videos, this was very heavy for the platform.
You may try WebXR. But you can't add both SDK at the same time.
Hi i am new bee in Unity but i have 1 year experience in Xcode, I am doing an app in Unity for iPhone but getting bit confuse on how can i hook-up Xcode with Unity, I want to Facebook sharing, Twitter Sharing and also iOS native Email sharing(Using Mail Composer) in Unity but i don't get any help ful solution to do task in Unity, I only get Plugins which i need to Purchase first. So i want to do this task in Xcode it reduce and time and money and rest of work on Unity so is this possible that we can Communicate between Xcode and Unity? If Possible then kindly share some knowledge and links with me so that i can do this task ASAP.
Thanks in Advance.
You can start write your own plugin to complete the communication between Unity3D and iOS.
From iOS to Unity, You can just use UnitySendMessage, which is enough in most of time. You can also try to use a event and delegate in Unity Script to handle more complex situation.
From Unity to iOS, you need to implement plugin yourself. First of all, use a .cs file to declare the external method. And then implement the native code in a .mm file in Xcode and "extern C" them to the Unity. Then you can call the .cs method and get a native function called. You need a Unity Pro license to use the plugin feature.
For UnitySendMessage and Unity plugin, visit Unity Doc-Building Plugins for iOS. You can find an example in the doc called Bonjour Browser Sample. It is a very good starting point for you. If you have 1 year experience with Xcode, I think it will be easy for you.
For use delegate and event in Unity, visit Prime31's Unity Tip video.
Check out Niklas's free unity iOS plugin.

It doesn't work out of the box anymore, but with a few changes and updates you can get it working.
If you already have xCode experience then hopefully the extra work should be trivial since the Facebook SDK docs are pretty good.
The title is very descriptive, I want to start developing games for the iphone and don't know where to start.
I would like to know what tools are available for this.
Should I start with a prebuilt game sdk?
Should I develop in C, C++ or Objective-C ?
thanks in advance.
Cocos2D is popular, and pretty simple/well thought out.
There are a handful of tools out there that simplify game development on the iPhone. Three that come to mind: Cocos2D, Box2D and Chipmunk.
Corona SDK is also a fantastic way to go if you want a cross platform game. You do all of your dev in Lua and can deploy to iOS as well as Android devices.
It also comes with Box2D physics built in.
I have an iPhone and am getting the Droid and was wondering if blender games can run on either of them. I have already made a game and want to be able to use it on my phone.
****UPDATE****
I was wrong, just recently android support has been added but it's brand spanking new so just know that android support would be considered beta quality if that, perhaps even alpha.
I can't believe no one has given this answer:
http://code.google.com/p/gamekit/
Supports the logic bricks/python scripts etc so basically you can just load up your packaged blend file and you're good to go.
there is actually a book on how to integrate blender into a iphone game development workflow. it uses sio2 for the game engine on the iphone. it might be worth to give it a shot.
