Nginx module redirect - redirect

Good day
I am writing a module for Nginx, that should redirect user to certain (local) URLs, if several conditions apply - something like ngx_http_rewrite_module (Though I couldn't find redirection code in that module).
My code successfully runs on required events, but I am unable to redirect user to another page.
I've tried ngx_http_internal_redirect, but it didn't work:
static ngx_str_t ngx_redirect_script = ngx_string("/dst.php");
return ngx_http_internal_redirect(r, &ngx_redirect_script , &r->args);
Perhaps somebody knows how to do that?
Thank you!

Interesting, this worked:
ngx_http_internal_redirect(r, &ngx_redirect_script , &r->args);
return NGX_HTTP_OK;

Dynamic Links from a CMS - Error: "redirect" can not be returned from getStaticProps during prerendering

I have a Next JS app connected to a CMS and hosted on Vercel - all links are dynamic and the pages are created by the content authors.
I am trying to create dynamic redirects that will force URLs to adhere to formats that are better for SEO. For example:
Enforce lowercase URLs
Replace spaces with dashes
Remove trailing slashes
For example, /test/Author Name/ would redirect to /test/author-name
Since I need to trigger a 301 redirect for these wrong URLs, the only way to do this with Next JS from what I have found is to return a Redirect from getStaticProps, this is what I have so far:
export const getStaticProps: GetStaticProps = async (context) => {
let requestedUrl = '/';
if (context?.params?.path) {
requestedUrl = '/' + (context?.params?.path as string[]).join('/');
}
//check for URLs with uppercases, spaces, etc. and clean them up
let modifiedUrl = requestedUrl;
modifiedUrl = modifiedUrl.trim().toLowerCase().replace(/\s\s+/g, ' ').replace(/\s/g, '-');
if (modifiedUrl != requestedUrl) {
return {
redirect: {
destination: modifiedUrl,
permanent: true,
},
};
}
This works wonderfully well running locally and connected to the CMS - everything is working as it should and all "faulty" URLs are corrected with the correct response code.
Sadly, this does not work on build, I have spent so much time so far trying to find an alternative, but no matter what I do, the build on Vercel fails with the error:
"redirect" can not be returned from getStaticProps during prerendering
The next best potential solution is to use Middleware, but that requires v.12 at least. Due to limitations from the CMS connector, we are forced to use Node v.11 :(
The alternative that I have built is to use router.push on the client side, but this... just looks terrible. The page loads, returns a 200, and then loads again with the corrected URL. Not good for the user's experience.
Any advice or suggestions? I am baffled that something this simple is this complicated with Next JS!
I resolved the issue... it looks like redirects on statically generated pages are not possible unfortunately. I removed getStaticProps and getStaticPaths, and added getServerSideProps instead. The redirects are now working correctly, but the site is not as fast as we are losing out on SSG.

How can I redirect hundreds of hostnames to other hostnames using nginx

I have a system where many (~20k) subdomains use nginx's default_server, which passes the work off to an app.
I also have many (~100) hostnames that need to be redirected to a correct one, that is different for each hostname and that would then redirect to the default_server.
one.example.com -> eleven.example.com
two.example.com -> twelve.domain.com
three.example.com -> wibble.example.com
blah.domain.com -> fifteen.example.com
The redirects are arbitrary, ie there is no pattern to them.
Rather than having to update nginx config to add a new server block whenever a new redirect is needed or updated I'd prefer to use a map file of some sort that nginx can check for redirects.
Sadly having searched about quite a bit I've not found anything like it, all examples I've found use a new server block for each redirecting host or use regexes. I'd prefer to be able to update a map file or database on the fly that nginx can refer to.
My current best option I have is to update the background app to apply the redirects.
I did previously find the map but it wasn't clear that it could be used in this way and none of the examples showed it. Saying that it turned out to be quite easy.
This is what I have that seems to work;
map $host $redirect_host {
hostnames;
one.david.org eleven.david.org;
two.david.org twelve.steve.org;
three.steve.org thirteen.david.org;
four.steve.org fourteen.steve.org;
}
server {
...
if ($redirect_host) {
return 301 $scheme://$redirect_host$request_uri;
}
...
}
It's a shame that this solution requires nginx restart, but it's not a big deal.

PHPUnit and Zend Framework assertRedirectTo() issue

I'm having an issue with assertRedirectTo() in a test I have created, below is the code I have used:
public function testLoggedInIndexAction() {
$this->dispatch('/');
$this->assertController('index');
$this->resetResponse();
$this->request->setPost(array(
'type' => 'login',
'username' => 'root',
'password' => 'asdasd',
));
$this->request->setMethod('POST');
$this->dispatch('/');
$this->assertRedirectTo('/feed/');
}
You log in through / (index.php/) and submit post details there and the it redirects you to /feed/ (index.php/feed/). The details I have supplied are correct and should work however I am having issues whereby PHPUnit is saying they are incorrect:
There was 1 failure:
1) IndexControllerTest::testLoggedInIndexAction
Failed asserting response redirects to "/feed/"

#poelinca: No, it is simply a case of Zend_Test being unreliable in registering a redirect (even if it has been called correctly!)
In his case, the real app is no doubt redirecting the user properly, but the Zend_Test environment is having trouble registering properly called redirects. The best response I can think of is to omit any failing assertRedirect which actually works in the application.
This is not an optimal situation, but unless you're prepared to dig into the Zend code to see where the problem is, this may be your best bet for efficiency. This is an example of what causes unit testing to get a bad name: Having to alter code to pass tests which actually work already.
See http://framework.zend.com/issues/browse/ZF-7496 Which is misleadingly specific in its title: the problem relates to all redirects, especially those which must set headers and exit instead of dispatching the original controller.
For whatever reason, this behavior causes Redirects not to always fail, but to be highly unreliable instead! If anyone knows a better workaround to this problem (which is general, and probably unrelated to the OP's code) please let us know.
stumbled on this question while having the same problem. I ended up doing the following:
$this->assertRedirect();
$responseHeaders = $this->response->getHeaders();
$this->assertTrue(count($responseHeaders) != 0);
$this->assertArrayHasKey('value', $responseHeaders[0]);
// in my case I'm redirecting to another module
$this->assertEquals('/module/controller/action', $responseHeaders[0]['value']);
I've responded this answer in http://zend-framework-community.634137.n4.nabble.com/Zend-Test-failing-on-AssertRedirectTo-td3325845.html#a4451217
I'm having this same issue... A possible way to assert it could be in
PHPUnit and Zend Framework assertRedirectTo() issue
But the problem is there.. My example is (wich actually works if done manually):
// controller modules/picking/orders/product
$orderId = $this->_getParam('oId');
if (empty($orderId)) {
return $this->_redirect('picking/orders/browse/invalid/empty');
}
// test
$this->dispatch('picking/orders/product');
$this->assertRedirect(); // ok
$this->assertRedirectTo('picking/orders/browse'); // error
$this->assertRedirectTo('picking/orders/browse/invalid/empty'); // error
After I've found the error!
Actually, following the example above i've found that the string comparizon in my example has an error:
'.../public//picking/orders/browse/invalid/empty'
'.../public/picking/orders/browse/invalid/empty'
... fixing the preprended slash solve the problem! ;)
So if i understand right , you wrote a test that fails ( id say this is perfect ) .
In order to make the test pass you need to debug you're app and see where the problem is , in this case you need to have a look at the actual redirection ( or eaven the post fields sent by the form ) , maybe check the routing too . I gues nobody here will be able to answer you're question unless you post the code in you're index controller/form/view and feed controller .
For future reference, I had this issue today and it was caused by the Url class failing to build a valid url (I was passing the wrong parameters) but not reporting an error to PHPUnit (probably because PHPUnit masks the error).
Correcting the url parameters fixes the url and with it the assertion.

zend framework urls and get method

I am developing a website using zend framework.
i have a search form with get method. when the user clicks submit button the query string appears in the url after ? mark. but i want it to be zend like url.
is it possible?
As well as the JS approach you can do a redirect back to the preferred URL you want. I.e. let the form submit via GET, then redirect to the ZF routing style.
This is, however, overkill unless you have a really good reason to want to create neat URLs for your search queries. Generally speaking a search form should send a GET query that can be bookmarked. And there's nothing wrong with ?param=val style parameters in a URL :-)
ZF URLs are a little odd in that they force URL parameters to be part of the main URL. I.e. domain.com/controller/action/param/val/param2/val rather than domain.com/controller/action?param=val&param2=val
This isn't always what you want, but seems to be the way frameworks are going with URL parameters
There is no obvious solution. The form generated by zf will be a standard html one. When submitted from the browser using GET it will result in a request like
/action/specified/in/form?var1=val1&var2=var2
Only solution to get a "zendlike url" (one with / instead of ? or &), would be to hack the form submission using javascript. For example you can listen for onSubmit, abort the submission and instead redirect browser to a translated url. I personally don't believe this solution is worth the added complexity, but it should perform what you're looking for.
After raging against this for a day-and-a-half, and doing my best to figure out the right way to do this fairly simple this, I gave up and did the following. I still can't believe there's not a better way.
The use case that necessitates this is a simple record listing, with a form up top for adding some filters (via GET), maybe some column sorting, and Zend_Paginate thrown in for good measure. I ran into issues using the Url view helper in my pagination partial, but I suspect with even just sorting and a filter-form, Zend_View_Helper_Url would still fall down.
But I digress. My solution was to add a method to my base controller class that merges any raw query-string parameters with the existing zend-style slashy-params, and redirects (but only if necessary). The method can be called in any action that doesn't have to handle POSTs.
Hopefully someone will find this useful. Or even better, find a better way:
/**
* Translate standard URL parameters (?foo=bar&baz=bork) to zend-style
* param (foo/bar/baz/bork). Query-string style
* values override existing route-params.
*/
public function mergeQueryString(){
if ($this->getRequest()->isPost()){
throw new Exception("mergeQueryString only works on GET requests.");
}
$q = $this->getRequest()->getQuery();
$p = $this->getRequest()->getParams();
if (empty($q)) {
//there's nothing to do.
return;
}
$action = $p['action'];
$controller = $p['controller'];
$module = $p['module'];
unset($p['action'],$p['controller'],$p['module']);
$params = array_merge($p,$q);
$this->_helper->getHelper('Redirector')
->setCode(301)
->gotoSimple(
$action,
$controller,
$module,
$params);
}

Redirect with Mason 1.0

I am using Mason 1.0 and want to redirect the page to another URL.
Is there any way to redirect?
Alternatively...
I have written following code in dbhandler which is giving error, stating that $r is undefined. Can you please help.
$r->method('GET');
$r->headers_in->unset('Content-length');
$r->content_type('text/html');
$r->header_out('Location' => $newPageURL);
$m->abort(301);
I cannot use $m->redirect as it is not avalible to me.
I am referring to this link http://www.masonhq.com/htmlmason/wiki/FAQ:HTTPAndHTML on the section "How do I do an external redirect?"
$r->status(302);
$r->headers_out()->add("Location", "http://google.com");
return 302;
Looks like $m->clear_buffer is missing before your first call.
It's required so it wipes out any response generated before you reach your redirection.
