I'm having trouble getting the user's profile pic with the new Facebook SDK. All the answers on here use methods from the old SDK that no longer work.
I've tried using the FBProfilePictureView recommended in Facebook's tutorial, but this picture doesn't get cached and I don't think it can be converted into a UIImage.
Can anyone please provide some help? Thanks!
OK, I finally got this using the following:
imageData = [[NSMutableData alloc] init]; // the image will be loaded in here
NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"http://graph.facebook.com/%#/picture?type=large", user.id];
NSMutableURLRequest *urlRequest =
[NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]
cachePolicy:NSURLRequestUseProtocolCachePolicy
timeoutInterval:2];
// Run request asynchronously
NSURLConnection *urlConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:urlRequest
delegate:self];
if (!urlConnection)
NSLog(#"Failed to download picture");
Then I used -(void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data and -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection to put the image together.
Best solution i've found:
I've used UIImage from AFNetworking https://github.com/AFNetworking/AFNetworking. It handles redirect and caching so you can fetch profile picture for every user id you have.
NSString *imageUrl = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"http://graph.facebook.com/%#/picture", ((NSDictionary<FBGraphUser> *) [self.friends objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]).id];
[friendCell.imageView setImageWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:imageUrl] placeholderImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"profile.jpg"]];
Use https://github.com/rs/SDWebImage to cache the image. The URL to request the image should be
NSString *string = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"https://graph.facebook.com/%#?fields=picture", userid];
Use the link:
https://graph.facebook.com/me?fields=picture
to get the current user's profile picture.
Facebook provides the Graph API explorer tool which can come in handy when you want to try queries or to check the returned output.
Here's a link to the User API Reference.
If your problem is related to "self.userPofilePicture.profileID = user.id;".
Then self.userProfilePicture return UIView so just take View and display in it.
Don't forgot add class FBProfilePictureView in Identity Inspector as well as [FBProfilePictureView class] to AppDelegate implementation file.
I hope this will helpful.

I am an ios developer,i am working on app in which i needs to send video on twitter.But i searched and found that we can only post link of Video,but cannot post the video itself in iPhone sdk.
Can anyone suggest me what to do,if i need to post video on twitter.
You can use TWRequest class with
- (void)addMultiPartData:(NSData *)data withName:(NSString *)name type:(NSString *)type
I am not sure if uploading video is possible.
More on using TWRequest https://dev.twitter.com/docs/ios/posting-images-using-twrequest
I just suggest you to look over the TwitVid documentation From bellow link:
http://twitvid.pbworks.com/w/page/22556295/FrontPage
UPDATE:
i use this type of logic in 4.3 with shareKit
NSString *urlstr =[YorURL stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:#" " withString:#""];
[urlstr retain];
NSString *apiEndpoint = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"http://tinyurl.com/api-create.php?url=%#",urlstr];
[apiEndpoint retain];
NSLog(#"\n\n APIEndPoint : %#",apiEndpoint);
NSString *shortURL = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:apiEndpoint]
encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding
error:nil];
[shortURL retain];
NSLog(#"Long: %# - Short: %#",urlstr,shortURL);
NSString *txtShare=[NSString stringWithFormat:#"You watching Your %#",shortURL];
SHKItem *item = [SHKItem text:txtShare];
[SHK setRootViewController:self];
[SHKTwitter shareItem:item];
hope this help you...
Thanks to the uploading media new API, you can share video to twitter. And I have tried it, it works.
Please check this: https://github.com/liu044100/SocialVideoHelper
You just need to call this class method.
+(void)uploadTwitterVideo:(NSData*)videoData account:(ACAccount*)account withCompletion:(dispatch_block_t)completion;
Hope it can resolve your problem.
I am trying to save an image to the photo library from a website which is opened in an uiwebview.The link is not just an image link where NSURLConnection can be used to download.I want to achieve the download by long pressing the image in UIWebView just as it can be done in safari. How can i achieve this..is it possible??
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:link];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
NSURLResponse *response = NULL;
NSError *requestError = NULL;
NSData *responseData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&requestError];
NSString *responseString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:responseData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
the response string contains complete information
Sorry to ask, but why do you use an UIWebView to only load an image. The UIImageView class constructor imageWithContentsOfURL: would do the job perfect.
Then you can just use an UIPopoverController for presenting a UIViewController with an UIButton calling UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum (http://goo.gl/uAJYS) to save the UIImage from your UIImageView directly into the users camera roll.
For Optimisation use an UITableViewController instead of the UIViewController - more the default iOS look&feel - and present the UIPopoverController with a small delay by overwriting the UIResponder methods on the UIImageView.
// EDIT: If you really mean how to get the exact behaviour of the Safari to save any image in the dom tree, i am a bit stumped. Maybe someone else can contribute some information on that.
I wonder how I can check if a file exist on a server or not, without downloading the data first.
I have around 30 different objects and some of them is connected to a movie on a server. At the moment I use NSData to control if the the URL exist, and then shows the movie, or if it doesn't and then alerts the user that there is no video for that object. The code I use for the moment:
NSString *fPath = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:#"http://www.myserver/%#", [rows idNr]];
NSURL *videoURL = [NSURL URLWithString:fPath];
NSData *videoData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:videoURL];
url = [NSURL URLWithString:fPath];
[fPath release];
if (videoData) {
[self performSelectorOnMainThread:#selector(playVideo:) withObject:url waitUntilDone:NO];
} else {
NSLog(#"videodata false");
errorLabel.hidden = NO;
activityView.hidden = YES;
}
"rows idNr" is the name of the object. This method is doing what I want, but the problem is that with NSData it first "downloading" the file, and when the URL is validated as a file, the movie is loading once again in the movieplayer. This means that it takes twice as long to load the file.
Suggestions?
It took me a while to dig out my answer to one of the previous questions on this topic. Quote:
You can use a NSMutableURLRequest to send a HTTP HEAD request
(there’s a method called setHTTPMethod). You’ll get the same
response headers as with GET, but you won’t have to download the whole
resource body. And if you want to get the data synchronously, use the
sendSynchronousRequest… method of NSURLConnection.
This way you’ll know if the file exists and won’t download it all if it does.
Make an URLConnecion object with desired url request and add NSURLConnectionDelegate into .h file like I want to check "yoururl" is exist or not then you need to do is
NSURLRequest *urlRequest = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString: #"http://www.google.com"]];
NSURLConnection *urlConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:urlRequest delegate:self];
and then you can track http status code in delegate function of NSURLConnectionDelegate
-(void) connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response
{
int code = [(NSHTTPURLResponse *)response statusCode];
if (code == 404)
{
// website not found
// do your stuff according to your need
}
}
You can also find various status code here.
NSError *err;
if ([videoURL checkResourceIsReachableAndReturnError:&err] == NO)
NSLog(#"wops!");
Here's the code for the accepted answer (for your convenience):
How to make call
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"HEAD"];
NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
You could do this by checking the size of the file via an FTP server, using the SIZE command. If the file size is zero then the file simply do not exist.
Check here on how to do this.
You could of course also do this by using a NSURLRequest with NSURLConnection, checking for the status to be either 200 (success) or 404 (failed). The 404 status doesn't have to be that the file doesn't exist though, it could also be that the file just couldn't be retrieved.
I'm trying to put placeholder images in my table view cell. Is there an event to trigger a redraw of the cell contents once the image data is uploaded? I'm using the following to create the image:
[UIImage imageWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:photoURLString]]]
Side note: I'm using ABTableViewCell to manually draw the contents of the cell with the drawInRect method.
Thanks.
That call is synchronous, so when it is complete your image is ready.
What you probably want to look into is loading image asynchronously and updating the image as they are loaded.
Something like:
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:imageURL];
NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
set a property to contain the NSData and keep track of the NSURLConnection so you can properly release it.
self.activeDownload = [NSMutableData data];
self.imageConnection = conn;
then provide the proper delegate methods for handling the connection callbacks:
- (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data {
[self.activeDownload appendData:data];
}
- (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error {
// Clear the activeDownload property to allow later attempts
self.activeDownload = nil;
// Release the connection now that it's finished
self.imageConnection = nil;
}
- (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection {
// Set appIcon and clear temporary data/image
UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:self.activeDownload];
//MAKE Your callbacks and update the image here.
}
Your callback is going to want to obtain that image, and set it in such a way that a reload of the table view will be able to retrieve it properly. I.e. set the image in a data object with the rest of the data the table view cell uses.
Additionally, you can then do a single refresh of just the cell that needs it via:
- (void)reloadRowsAtIndexPaths:(NSArray *)indexPaths withRowAnimation:(UITableViewRowAnimation)animation
This is from Apple's own LazyImageTables example.
You can do this yourself, however I'd suggest using EGOImageLoading, it's designed for this exact use.
In your subclass of UITableViewCell, instead of using a UIImageView, use EGOImageView.
This blog post shows how to use it
and the code is on github
(if you download the code off github, using the download button on the site to get a zip or tar.gz file then you'll need to download EGOCache as well (linked to on the github page))
hello
I'm trying to write an rss feed viewer for my iPhone. In my DetailView I have a UIWebView where I want to display specific link retrieved with the rss item.:
NSString* url = [data objectForKey:#"link"];
NSString *encodedUrl = [url stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding ];
NSLog(#"Selected link:%#",url);
NSURLRequest *request = [[NSURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:encodedUrl]];
[itemWebpage loadRequest:request];
[request release];
now,if the retrieved link is something like
www.shazaam.com
it works. But as soon as the link is something like:
http://www.shazam.com/music/web/track?id=41970148"
it doesn't. I suppose it's because of the parameter...but how can I fix the problem????
thanks a lot!

stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding: is for when you want to put a string into a query variable. You don't need to do it for entire URLs. The question mark is being encoded when it shouldn't be, so you are getting a 404. Don't encode the URL and you should be fine.
