Canon EDSDK sample code - help to understand save file to location - file-transfer

I am new to the EDSDK, but so far have been very happy with the results. I have my program working just fine saving to the camera, however when I set to saveTo Host I'm unclear on where it thinks it's supposed to save to.
Everything appears to work. Callback function gets called, progress bar animates but I have no idea where it thinks it's pointing the file to.
the closest I get is finding where the #"download" command is issued, the argument to this call should be getting cast as a (EdsDirectoryItemRef)
This all seems to be coming from the EDSCALLBACK handleObjectEvent but I can't figure out how it gets constructed.
Ideally I'd like to be able to specify where on disk I want the images to go. Can someone provide some aid?

Okay, I see the images are going into the build directory, but perhaps someone could help me to understand why. Or even better how to specify a path for myself.

When you set saveTo_Host, the image is stored on a temporary memory in the camera. The camera then triggers a DirItemRequestTransfer event that would call the callback function 'handleObjectEvent'. The reference to the image, stored in the temporary camera memory, is passed to the callback function.
Within the handleObjectEvent callback function you probably would be creating a file stream and using EdsDownload to download the file to the location on the PC (which is specified by the file stream).
When you create a file stream you need to specify a file name (the first argument). This file name determines where the image would be stored. If you just specify the file name without a path the image gets stored in the build directory. If you would like to save the file in a particular location you need to specify the file name along with its path.

Openpanel and symbol communication not working

Use [trigger] to get the order-of-execution correct.
One problem is, that whenever you send a [1( to [readsf~] you must have sent an [open ...( message directly beforehand.
Even if you have just successfully opened a file, but then stopped it (with [0() or played it through (so it has been closed automatically), you have to send the filename again.
The real problem is, that your messages are out of order: you should never have a fan-out (that is: connecting a message outlet to multiple inlets), as this will create undefined behavior.
Use [trigger] to get the order-of-execution correct.
(Mastering [trigger] is probably the single most important step in learning to program Pd)

Matlab - Easy way to save entire figure/GUI

I'm looking for an easy way too save the current state of my GUI and be able to load this saved state again. I know there is a video for this (http://blogs.mathworks.com/videos/2010/12/10/how-to-save-and-restore-state-of-a-gui-in-matlab/) but somehow it doesn't work on my computer.
I thought of something like this: (I used gcf because I didn't know the "mainhandle" for my entire GUI)

The problem with this way is, that the saved Data is opened in a new figure and not the current one from which I chose to open it.
I was also wondering if it is possible to set a folder(which is added to the matlab path) as the deault folder for saving/loading.

Since your currentdata keeps the whole handles of your GUI, including the handle to the GUI's main figure, so when you load it, there will be a new figure opened.
What one did in the mentioned video is: just save the fields/data that you need to be remained/reloaded in later session.
So either you save these specific fields in the GUI's handles and reload them one by one, or you can use the exchange functions mentioned in the comment under the video.

How to reset FFmpeg static global variables?

Im trying to create a movie from set of PNG images using FFmpeg in iPhone. Later merging the video created with audio which is recorded separately. I can call this as a two phases of my first pass. But when I start my second pass, FFmpeg crashes in first phase. I know that this because the global variables set in first pass are not reset during the second pass. Is there any way to reset the static global variables set to the FFmpeg?
In my case I am getting error like "frame size changed to 320x400, bgra", even though the images are set to PNG before I start my second pass.
This issue got resolved now. After debugging the FFmpeg code, I found that the pixel format was not reset and it was retaining the previously set value. Fix is to reset the "frame_pix_fmt = PIX_FMT_NONE" before you start actual encoding. "frame_pix_fmt" is declared as a static global variable in ffmpeg.c.

How to delete a file while the application is running

I have developed a C# application, in the application the users choose a photo for each record. However the user should also be able to change the pre-selected photo with a newer one. When the user changes the photo the application first deletes the old photo from the application directory then copies the new photo, but when it does that the application gives an exception because the file is used by the application so it cannot be deleted while the application is running. Does any one have a clue how to sort this out? I appreciate your help

First of all, you code is not good.
The new image is only copied if there is currently no image (else).
But if there is an old image, you only delete this image, but never copy the newer one (if).
The code should better look like this:

This code should work, but if you are getting an exception that the file is already in use, you should check "where" you use the file. Perhaps you are reading the file at program start. Check all parts of your program you are accessing these user files if there are some handles open.
Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for the mistake in the code I just saw it, my original code is just like as you have written but I don't know maybe when I posted accidentally I've put like this. when the application runs there is a picturebox which the image of each record is shown, that is why the application is giving an exception when I want to change the picture because it has been used once by the picturebox , however I've also tried to load another picture to the picture box before deleting the original one but still the same. I've modified the above could if you want to examine it

How can I validate an image file in Perl?

How would I validate that a jpg file is a valid image file. We are having files written to a directory using FTP, but we seem to be picking up the file before it has finished writing it, creating invalid images. I need to be able to identify when it is no longer being written to. Any ideas?
Easiest way might just be to write the file to a temporary directory and then move it to the real directory after the write is finished.

You're solving the wrong problem, I think.
What you should be doing is figuring out how to tell when whatever FTPd you're using is done writing the file - that way when you come to have the same problem for (say) GIFs, DOCs or MPEGs, you don't have to fix it again.
Precisely how you do that depends rather crucially on what FTPd on what OS you're running. Some do, I believe, have hooks you can set to trigger when an upload's done.
If you can run your own FTPd, Net::FTPServer or POE::Component::Server::FTP are customizable to do the right thing.
In the absence of that:
1) try tailing the logs with a Perl script that looks for 'upload complete' messages
2) use something like lsof or fuser to check whether anything is locking a file before you try and copy it.
Again looking at the FTP issue rather than the JPG issue.
I check the timestamp on the file to make sure it hasn't been modified in the last X (5) mins - that way I can be reasonably sure they've finished uploading

Have the FTP process set the readonly flag, then only work with files that have the readonly flag set.
