Saving image persistently in within App - iOS - iphone

Trying to select image using photo picker and save that image internally in apps folder.
- (void) imagePickerController: (UIImagePickerController *) pickerdidFinishPickingMediaWithInfo: (NSDictionary *) info {
NSString *mediaType = [info objectForKey: UIImagePickerControllerMediaType];
UIImage *originalImage, *editedImage, *imageToUse;
// Handle a still image picked from a photo album
if (CFStringCompare ((CFStringRef) mediaType, kUTTypeImage, 0)
== kCFCompareEqualTo) {
editedImage = (UIImage *) [info objectForKey:
UIImagePickerControllerEditedImage];
originalImage = (UIImage *) [info objectForKey:
UIImagePickerControllerOriginalImage];
if (editedImage) {
imageToUse = editedImage;
} else {
imageToUse = originalImage;
}
// Do something with imageToUse
//save it
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *imageName = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", myUniqueID]];
NSString *imagePath = [imageName stringByAppendingPathComponent:#".png"];
NSData *webData = UIImagePNGRepresentation(editedImage);
NSError* error = nil;
bool success = [webData writeToFile:imagePath options:NULL error:&error];
if (success) {
// successfull save
imageCount++;
[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setInteger:imageCount forKey:#"imageCount"];
NSLog(#"#Success save to: %#", imagePath);
}
else if (error) {
NSLog(#"Error:%#", error.localizedDescription);
}
}
...
}
What I can't figure out is that writeToFile::: returns false but no value is returned in error so I can't figure out whats going wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

You're missing a "/". The line:
NSString *imageName = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", myUniqueID]];
should be:
NSString *imageName = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", myUniqueID]];
And the line that says:
NSString *imagePath = [imageName stringByAppendingPathComponent:#".png"];
should be:
NSString *imagePath = [imageName stringByAppendingPathExtension:#"png"];
Update:
And, shouldn't:
NSData *webData = UIImagePNGRepresentation(editedImage);
be the following?
NSData *webData = UIImagePNGRepresentation(imageToUse);

}
so how to save or download this pdf in Iphone please solve this problem....
I believe you can simple use the belo two line:
NSData *myFile = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:#"your_url"]];
[myFile writeToFile:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#/%#", [[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath], #"yourfilename.pdf"] atomically:YES];
I hope this it will help you,
Saving the pdf into app
NSData * imageData = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL URLWithString: path]];
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSCachesDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *filePath = [[paths objectAtIndex:0] stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"pdfname.pdf"];
NSError *writeError = nil;
[imageData writeToFile:filePath options:NSDataWritingAtomic error:&writeError];
if (writeError) {
NSLog(#"Error writing file: %#", writeError); }
Getting the pdf from the NSDocument Directory
NSString *stringPath = [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES)objectAtIndex:0];
NSArray *filePathsArray = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] subpathsOfDirectoryAtPath:documentsDirectory error:&error];
for(int i=0;i<[filePathsArray count];i++)
{
NSString *strFilePath = [filePathsArray objectAtIndex:i];
if ([[strFilePath pathExtension] isEqualToString:#"pdf"])
{
NSString *pdfPath = [[stringPath stringByAppendingFormat:#"/"] stringByAppendingFormat:strFilePath];
NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:pdfPath];
if(data)
{
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:data];
[arrayOfImages addObject:image];
}
}
}

How to generate pdf using NSData or using data bytes objective c?

Hi I want to write pdf using NSData or using data bytes given by webservice ?
-(NSData *)saveData:(NSData*)fileData fileName:(NSString *)fileName fileType:(NSString *)fileType
{
NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory , NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDir = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *filePath = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#/%#.%#",documentsDir,fileName,fileType];
NSData* downloadData = [NSData dataWithData:fileData];
[fileManager createFileAtPath:filePath contents:downloadData attributes:nil];
}
I am using this but it's not working it's give me error "It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." on opening that pdf created by above code.
you can convert NSData to PDF with bellow code... I get the bellow Code From This link
NSString *string=[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.pdf",[yourArray objectAtIndex:pageIndex]];
[controller1 addAttachmentData:pdfData mimeType:#"application/pdf" fileName:string];
[self presentModalViewController:controller1 animated:YES];
[controller1 release];
//to convert pdf to NSData
NSString *pdfPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"test.pdf"];
NSData *myData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:pdfPath];
//to convert NSData to pdf
NSData *data = //some nsdata
CFDataRef myPDFData = (CFDataRef)data;
CGDataProviderRef provider = CGDataProviderCreateWithCFData(myPDFData);
CGPDFDocumentRef pdf = CGPDFDocumentCreateWithProvider(provider);
-(IBAction)saveasPDF:(id)sender{
NSString *string=[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.pdf",[yourArray objectAtIndex:pageIndex]];
[controller1 addAttachmentData:pdfData mimeType:#"application/pdf" fileName:string];
[self presentModalViewController:controller1 animated:YES];
[pdfData writeToFile:[self getDBPathPDf:string] atomically:YES];
}
-(NSString *) getDBPathPDf:(NSString *)PdfName {
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory , NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDir = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
return [documentsDir stringByAppendingPathComponent:PdfName];
}
Summary:
get NSData from pdf file path
NSData *pdfData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:pathToFile1];
NSLog(#"pdfData= %d", pdfData != nil);
write NSData to pdf file
[pdfData writeToFile:pathToFile2 atomically:YES];
#ChallengerGuy (If you are still looking for the Swift 2 approach for the CGPDFDocument)
//to convert data of type NSData

Hope the above helps

trying to save jpeg to Documents directory of app

So I have a function which gets an image from a URL which looks like this:
- (UIImage *) getImageFromURL:(NSString *)fileURL {
UIImage * result;
NSData * img_data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:fileURL]];
result = [UIImage imageWithData:img_data];
return result;
}
and then a function which saves the image from a UIImage Which looks like this:
-(void) saveImage:(UIImage *)image withFileName:(NSString *)imageName ofType:(NSString *)extension inDirectory:(NSString *)directoryPath {
if ([[extension lowercaseString] isEqualToString:#"png"]) {
[UIImagePNGRepresentation(image) writeToFile:[directoryPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.%#", imageName, #"png"]] options:NSAtomicWrite error:nil];
} else if ([[extension lowercaseString] isEqualToString:#"jpg"] || [[extension lowercaseString] isEqualToString:#"jpeg"]) {
[UIImageJPEGRepresentation(image, 1.0) writeToFile:[directoryPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.%#", imageName, #"jpg"]] options:NSAtomicWrite error:nil];
NSLog(#"Image named %# wrote to %#", imageName, directoryPath);
} else {
NSLog(#"Image Save Failed\nExtension: (%#) is not recognized, use (PNG/JPG)", extension);
}
}
The issue I am facing is that when I run a UIImage through the saveImage function I dont think it is saving the image. This is because when I check for a UIImage imageNamed:#"Documents/filenamesavedas.jpeg" it returns (null). The image does however download correctly.
Here is my Documents Directory path function:
- (NSString *)getDocumentsDirectoryPath {
NSString * documentsDirectoryPath = [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0];
NSLog(documentsDirectoryPath);
return documentsDirectoryPath;
}
Here is where I am downloading and trying to save the image:
dispatch_async(jsonQueue, ^{
// check to see if data authenticate runs successfully.
NSString *documentsDirectoryPath = [util getDocumentsDirectoryPath];
UIImage *imageToSave = [util getImageFromURL:[properties objectForKey:#"current_group_logoURL"]];
[util saveImage:imageToSave withFileName:[properties objectForKey:#"home_venue_logo"] ofType:#"jpeg" inDirectory:documentsDirectoryPath];
NSLog(#"Group Logo URL %#", [properties objectForKey:#"current_group_logoURL"]);
NSLog(#"Current Group Image %#", [properties objectForKey:#"home_venue_logo"]);
UIImage *testToSeeItHasDownloaded = imageToSave;
NSString *imageLocation = [documentsDirectoryPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:[properties objectForKey:#"home_venue_logo"]];
NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:imageLocation];
UIImage *testToSeeImageHasSaved = [UIImage imageWithData:data];
NSLog(#"testToSeeImagehasDownloaded: %#", testToSeeItHasDownloaded);
NSLog(#"image location to save to: %#", imageLocation);
NSLog(#"testToSeeImagehasSaved: %#", testToSeeImageHasSaved );
});
The Console returns this:
2012-10-22 16:27:45.642 asdaf[46819:1d807] Group Logo URL http://somesite.com/50a0e42619424ba551a956511c098656.jpeg
2012-10-22 16:27:45.642 asdaf[46819:1d807] Current Group Image 50a0e42619424ba551a956511c098656.jpeg
2012-10-22 16:27:45.649 asdaf[46819:1d807] testToSeeImagehasDownloaded: <UIImage: 0xb09ed50>
2012-10-22 16:27:45.649 asdaf[46819:1d807] testToSeeImagehasSaved: (null)
testToSeeImagehasSaved should return null. But what am I doing wrong? Thanks.
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
//documentsDirectory is your documents directory path
//Now append your image name in this path
NSString *imagePath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"ImageName.jpeg"];
//convert your image in NSData
NSData *imageData = UIImagePNGRepresentation(image);
//Now write it at path
[imageData writeToFile:imagePath atomically:NO];
You can get this image in same way
NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:imagePath];
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:data];
Edit:
-(void)saveImage:(UIImage *)image withFileName:(NSString *)imageName ofType:(NSString *)extension
{
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *imageName = [imageName stringByAppendingString:extension];
//Note extension should be like .png, .jpg, .jpeg dont forget dot (.).
NSString *imagePath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:imageName];
NSData *imageData = UIImagePNGRepresentation(image);
[imageData writeToFile:imagePath atomically:NO];
}
Well i dont now about your whole code but why you're passing an UIImage object when you have to save your image in documents directory. You can pass NSData as well in your method. You're doing more.
Your problem is you're saving .jpg image each time and at the time of retrieving you're trying to find .jpeg image on same path thats why you're getting null value. See this line in your saving method -
[UIImageJPEGRepresentation(image, 1.0) writeToFile:[directoryPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.%#", imageName, #"jpg"]] options:NSAtomicWrite error:nil];
this line doesn't look right to me:
UIImage *testToSeeImageHasSaved = [UIImage imageNamed: [#"Documents/" stringByAppendingString: [properties objectForKey:#"home_venue_logo"]]];
I think you have to do:
UIImage* image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:"YOUR_FILE_PATH"];
[UIImage imageNamed:"image_name"] is good only for images attached to your project
When you save it in the document folder, it does not exacly saves it in the "Document" directory but rather something like
path=/var/mobile/Applications/144B3628-5258-4939-8B80-006EC5BE45B2/Library/Caches/6_1.png
So to retreive your image you should use
NSString *uniquePath = [directory stringByAppendingPathComponent: filename];
image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile: uniquePath];
where directory is the path you used to save it and filename the name of your jpeg.
[UIImage imageNamed:#"Documents/filenamesavedas.jpeg"]
Doesnt take paths it searches your bundle for the file with a specific name.
Locate the file using calls to NSFileManager and use the expected path and file name.

How to get thumbnails of a video saved in document directory

I saved the captured video in document directory as shown below and now I want to display the thumbnails and play the same video.How to do this ?
- (void) imagePickerController: (UIImagePickerController *) picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo: (NSDictionary *) info
{
NSString *mediaType = [info objectForKey: UIImagePickerControllerMediaType];
[self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:NO];
// Handle a movie capture
if (CFStringCompare ((__bridge_retained CFStringRef) mediaType, kUTTypeMovie, 0) == kCFCompareEqualTo)
{
NSArray *documentPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDir = [documentPaths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *movieName = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.mov",[CoreDataFunctions getNameForVideoForDate:[CalendarFunctions getCurrentDateString]]];
NSString *moviePath = [documentsDir stringByAppendingPathComponent:movieName];
NSURL * movieURL = [info valueForKey:UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL];
NSData * movieData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:movieURL];
NSLog(#"%#",moviePath);
if([movieData writeToFile:moviePath atomically:NO])
{
if(![CoreDataFunctions saveVideoInfoInDatabaseForDate:[CalendarFunctions getCurrentDateString]])
{
NSLog(#"Video was saved in doucment directory but could not be saved in core data");
}
}
else
{
NSLog(#"Video could not be saved to the document directry");
}
}
}
Get videos from doc dir like this
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSError * error;
NSArray *directoryContents = [[NSFileManager defaultManager]
contentsOfDirectoryAtPath:documentsDirectory error:&error];
//Take all images in NSMutableArray
NSMutableArray *arrVideoImages = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init];
for(NSString *strFile in directoryContents)
{
NSString *strVideoPath = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#/%#",documentsDirectory,strFile];
UIImage *img = [self getThumbNail:strVideoPath];
[arrVideoImages addObject:img];
}
Also add this method:
-(UIImage *)getThumbNail:(NSString)stringPath
{
NSURL *videoURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:stringPath];
MPMoviePlayerController *player = [[MPMoviePlayerController alloc] initWithContentURL:videoURL];
UIImage *thumbnail = [player thumbnailImageAtTime:1.0 timeOption:MPMovieTimeOptionNearestKeyFrame];
//Player autoplays audio on init
[player stop];
[player release];
return thumbnail;
}

How save images in home directory?

I am making an application in which i have use Json parsing. With the help of json parsing i get photo url which is saved in string. To show images in my cell i use this code
NSString *strURL=[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", [list_photo objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]];
NSData *imageData = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL URLWithString: strURL]];
CGRect myImage =CGRectMake(13,5,50,50);
UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:myImage];
[imageView setImage:[UIImage imageWithData: imageData]];
[cell addSubview:imageView];
Now prblem is that when i go back or forword then i have wait for few second to come back on same view. Now i want that i when application is used first tme then i wait for that screen otherwise get images from home directory. How i save these image in my home directory? How access from home directory?
You can save an image in the default documents directory as follows using the imageData;
// Accessing the documents directory
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *savedImagePath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"myImage.png"];
//Writing the image file
[imageData writeToFile:savedImagePath atomically:NO];
You can use this to write a file to your Documents Folder
+(BOOL) downloadFileFromURL:(NSString *) url withLocalName:(NSString*) localName
{
//Get the local file and it's size.
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *finalPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:localName];
NSError *error;
NSDictionary *fileAttributes = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] attributesOfItemAtPath:finalPath error:&error];
NSAssert (error == nil, ([NSString stringWithFormat:#"Error: %#", error]));
if (error) return NO;
int localFileSize = [[fileAttributes objectForKey:NSFileSize] intValue];
//Prepare a request for the desired resource.
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest
requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"HEAD"];
//Send the request for just the HTTP header.
NSURLResponse *response;
[NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error];
NSAssert (error == nil, ([NSString stringWithFormat:#"Error: %#", error]));
if (error) return NO;
//Check the response code
int status = 404;
if ([response respondsToSelector:#selector(statusCode)])
{
NSHTTPURLResponse *httpResponse = (NSHTTPURLResponse*) response;
status = [httpResponse statusCode];
}
if (status != 200)
{
//file not found
return NO;
}
else
{
//file found
}
//Get the expected file size of the downloaded file
int remoteFileSize = [response expectedContentLength];
//If the file isn't already downloaded, download it.
if (localFileSize != remoteFileSize || (localFileSize == 0))
{
NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]];
[[NSFileManager defaultManager] createFileAtPath:finalPath contents:data attributes:nil];
return YES;
}
//here we may wish to check the dates or the file contents to ensure they are the same file.
//The file is already downloaded
return YES;
}
and this to read:
+(UIImage*) fileAtLocation:(NSString*) docLocation
{
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *finalPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:docLocation];
NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]];
[[NSFileManager defaultManager] createFileAtPath:finalPath contents:data attributes:nil];
NSData *databuffer = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] contentsAtPath:finalPath];
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:databuffer];
return image;
}
