Diffrence between "Created On" and "Record Created On" - workflow

In CRM, when I'm, trying to set up a work flow, I get to choose the timeout to be related to a certain entity's creation time. There are three fields to relate to.
Record Created On
Created On
Modified On
While the last one is very obvious, I can't see any logical difference between the two others.

The difference is that Created On (createdon) is filled out automatcally by the server when you actually create the record, while Record Created On (overriddencreatedon) will usually be null (unless the record was imported into CRM and you chose to explicitly override the record creation date to match when it was created in another system).
You should use the first and skip the latter, as it's not supported (as far I've got it right when I talked to a MVP about it). Why it show, she had no idea and neither do I. Maybe #JamesWood has a shot. He usually does. (sucking-up in progress)
I've never used the latter and I believe you'll keep your hair off-grey and on-head if you stick to the same approach.
From the SDK:
The createdon attribute specifies the date and time that the record was created. To import data in the createdon attribute, map the source column that contains this data to the overriddencreatedon attribute.
During import, the record’s createdon attribute is updated with the value that was mapped to the overriddencreatedon attribute and the overriddencreatedon attribute is set to the date and time that the data was imported.
If no source value is mapped to the overriddencreatedon attribute, the createdon attribute is set to the date and time that the data was imported and the overriddencreatedon attribute is not set to any value.

Custom field on opportunity object not available in historical table

I have created a custom currency field, in Salesforce, on the standard Opportunity object. It's not a formula field; a workflow updates this field on edit/new opportunity. I have enabled Field History tracking on this field.
I want to include this field on a trend report with 2 snapshots of the field's value. The issue is that I don't see the field's historic value available to be selected under the "Opportunity (Historical)" field list. So, it seems like the value has not been added to this related object. (I can see the other standard fields' snapshot values.)
I went to the Report Type to see if I could add it there, but again, it's not available to be selected; only the field that's in the actual opportunity is selectable.
What steps have I missed?
if your field history report isn’t returning any records even though you know that records have changed, then ask your admin to turn on field history tracking.

Change data type on AppMaker

I use AppMaker with Google Cloud SQL and needed to change a String field to Date (StartDate).
A page on the AppMaker guides said 'To change the field type, delete and recreate the field.', as I deleted the field I was prompted to choose between 'Delete data' or 'Keep data', I chose keep data as I had input some already.
I then went on to recreate the field with the same name (StartDate) but as Date now and I get "Duplicate column name 'StartDate'".
This is an expected behavior. If you have a field with string data type and then you want to convert that to a date data type, app maker won't do that for you. These are two different types of data. Since you've chosen to keep the data, the field was deleted from app maker's interface; however, the data is still available in google cloud sql. If you really want to keep the data, you'll have to create a new field with a different name, but if you really need the field with the same name and a different data type, you'll need to do the following:
In app maker, go to the app settings:
2.Then go the database and click on check:
You will be presented with the three options:
In summary, appmaker is not able to create the field with the same name and different data type because the field name already exists in the sql backend. The only thing you can do is to completely delete that field and get rid of the data, or restore the field and continue using strings. I hope this helps!

Filemaker Pro 14 History tables

With a few solutions Ive worked with I've created temp table's or history tables. Normally I script it to take a handful of fields needed from a main table and copy it over to the other table by
Setting a variable then setting field to the variable for each field in the new table / new record.
I have a situation now, where Im building a history table that needs to copy the current record as is. A snapshot where all fields from that instance of the record are copied to the history table.
Rather then setting a variable then set field to the variable, Id like to get some input on a quicker way to get this done where I can do this on a record level and not type out field by field to get it done. Also if fields are added to both tables then I have to make sure my script gets updated.
Ill keep hunting around.. appreciate any help.

Do you have a sample of copying a record from 1 table to another
including all fields and setting some fields?
As I suggested in comments, use the Import Records[] script step, and select the same file as the source. If you choose Arrange by: [ matching names ] in the Import Field Mapping dialog, it will automatically map all source fields to their similarly named counterparts.
Note that you must establish a found set in the source table before importing.
For "setting some fields", you can define auto-enter options and activate them during the import, or run Replace Field Contents[] immediately after the import.

How can I (partially) automate the transfer of a FileMaker database structure and field contents to a second database?

I'm trying to copy some field values to a duplicate database. One record at a time. This is used for history and so I can delete some records in the original database to keep it fast.
I don't want to manually save the values in a variable because there are hundreds of fields. So I want to go to the first field, save the field name and value and then go over to the other database and save the data. Then run a 'Go to Next Field' and loop through all the fields.
This works perfectly, but here is the problem: When a field is a calculation you cannot tab into it and therefore 'Go to Next Field' doesn't work. It skips it.
I though of doing a 'Go to Object' but then I need to name all the objects and I can't find a script to name objects.
Can anyone out there think of a solution?
Thanks!
This is one of those problems where I always found it easier to do an export/import.
Export all the data you want from the one database, and then import it into the other database. All you need to do is:
Manually specify which fields you want to copy
Map the data from the export to the right fields in the new database/table
You can even write a script to do these things for you.
There are several ways to achieve this.
To make a "history file", I have found there are several cases out there, so lets take a look.
CASE ONE
Single file I just want to "keep" a very large file with historical data, because I need to erease all data in my Main file.
In this case, you should create a "clone" table (in the same file ore in other file, is the same). Then change any calculation field to the type of the calculation result (number, text, date, an so on...). Remove any "auto entered value or calculation from any field, like auto number, auto creation date, etc..). You will have a "Plain Table" with no calculations or auto entered data.
Then add a field to control duplicate data. If you have lets say an invoice number (unique) for each record, you can do this to achieve this task. But if you do not have a unique field that identifies the record as unique, then you have to create one...
To create such a field, I recommed to add a new field on the clone table and set as an aunto entered calculation and make a field combination that is unique... somthing like this: invoiceNumber & "-" & lineNumber & "-" " & date.
On the clone table make shure that validation is set up for "always", and no empty values allowed and that this value is unique.
Once you setup the clone table... then you can import your records, making sure that the auto enty option is on. Yo can do it as many times as you like, new records will be added and no duplicates.
If you want, can make a Script to do the move to historical table all the current records before deleting them.
NOTE:
This technique works fine when the data you try to keep do not have changes over time. This means, once the record is created is has no changes.
CASE TWO
A historical table must be created but some fields are updated.
In the beginnig I thougth a historical data, never changes. In some cases I found this is not the case, like the case I want to track historical invoices but at the same time, keep track if they are paid or not...
In this case you may use the same technique above, but instead of importing data... you must update data based on the "unique" fields that identifiy the record.
Hope this technique helps
FileMaker's FieldNames() function, along with GetField() can give you a list of field names and then their values

What is the correct way to associate with a ABPerson?

In many of my apps, it requires associating some data with a contact in addressbook. What I used to do is save the record id of an ABPerson and use that id to pull information upon each app launch. However, more and more I find that this approach is wrong because many times a user will use a service like mobileme where the addressbook is wiped and resynced. This causes the record id to change and all associations are lost. The user will have to go through each one and re-link them.
What is a better approach to holding a robust pointer to addressbook entries?
You should store three values: the record ID, the first name, and the last name.
1) In the case that the record ID hasn't changed, you're golden - just use that to locate the proper record.
2) If ABAddressBookGetPersonWithRecordID() does not locate a record for your stored record ID (it returns NULL), then you'll need to search the person records for a match based on the first and last name. You can drop down to using ABAddressBookCopyPeopleWithName() potentially or write your own locating code if you already have an array with all the person records in-memory. Locating the new record is up to you. Once to locate the new record, you can update your data storage with the new record ID.
Ultimately, you end up storing the record ID to use directly incase it doesn't change (if you're lucky) plus storing some keys from the address book entry that are unlikely to change. The name of the person or organization associated with an address book entry is most likely to change. You should, of course, account for the case where you may not find a record with the stored record ID or by searching for the name. This could trivially mean that the record was deleted, or it could mean that the record was renamed. You should handle that case whichever way you decide is best for your specific application.
I know this was last year, however, I thought I might suggest a method I use. The first time I ask the user to pick a contact (in order to associate certain of my app's private data with it) I then grab the record, create my own internal record id (the initials of the app name and a sequence number usually) modify the contact by adding a new ABRelatedName (type of "pref" name of "Other") value of my own internal record id. It looks like this in the .vcf
item3.X-ABRELATEDNAMES;type=pref:BZA101
item3.X-ABLabel:_$!<Other>!$_
That way, I can simply reference that record id when i add more data about the user such as the last time the app user contacted them, etc. Seems to work for me.
Hope that helps someone.
If the address book is indeed being completely wiped and re-loaded, and the only part that doesn't change is the display name, then storing the display name as the link seems like the only option.
