I have a form in which you enter some data and you are able to attach files. All I wanna do is have a Browse button so i can select the file and store that file url in some var, so later when i want to submit the form...y can read that var and upload the file using its url. Im using Scala Lift. I search for examples in the web but couldnt find anything helpful. I only want to select the file and store the file url. Can someone help me? Thanks!
You can't store path to file on client's drive. Even if you get path like this, you can't upload file that is not manually selected by client.
I suggest doing AJAX based client.

Edit: The contents in this file change, so i have to update the contents on the website.
If you want to be able to access the file as if it was locally stored, then it needs to be registered under your assets in your pubspec.yaml & should be included in the project itself. Otherwise, you will have to fetch the file using something like DIO to fetch it from wherever it is hosted.

but the constraint here is, we should not show the file chooser dialogbox.
with the given input file name we pick that file from the default file location and uploads it.

FileUpload is the widget in GWT for uploading file but you have to choose a file. follow this.
There is no way in GWT to get file in client. If you don't want to choose a file from a default location then just give a text box and read file name, then pass this file name to server and do enough processing there, you can't take File in client side.
I am using filepicker.io and specially computer as main service.
I would like to get the original file path of a file uploaded through the API.
For example, if I upload a file located at /my/path/in/my/computer/file.zip, I will get in the FPFile object the filepicker.io URL but not the original file path.
Is there a way to get it ?
PS: I have tried to retrieve the stat of the file too without success.

Here is a situation I have a data file in document directory which is being updated in the application every now and then. So I want to save it to my desktop using iTunes. But I don't want that the file should be uploaded back to my application. i.e. I want that user can download the file but can not upload any.
I was thinking to have the data file on some other location like Library and put a button on application settings saying "Prepare backup" that will copy that data file in Document directory, from where user can download it. If user uploads any thing it won't make any difference as my current file is in Library directory.
This is just a thought,
can anyone suggest me other way or the above way is good to go?

You can't.
But what you can do is check (using an timer every 10 seconds) if a new file is added to the documents directory and then delete it programmatically.
But this ofcourse doesn't disable the replacement of files.
I want to add a pdf and word format of my resume to my portfolio page and make it downloadable. Does anyone have some simple script?
Add a link to the file and let the browser handle the download.
You may be over-complicating the problem. It's possible to use a href pointing to the location of the .pdf or .doc file, when a user clicks on this in their browser, generally they will be asked if they would like to save or open the file, depending on their OS/configuration.

Create the PDF. Upload it. Add a link.
Save yourself 30 minutes tossing around with PDFGEN code.
You will want to issue or employ the Content-Disposition HTTP header to force the download otherwise some browsers may recognize the common file extensions and try to automatically open the file contents. It will feel more professional if the link actually downloads the file instead of launching an app - important for a resume I think.
Content-Disposition must be generated within the page from the server side as far as I know.

Add a link to the file on your portfolio page just as I do in the menu of my blog:
