i need to convert some date that i have in NSString to NSString in this format: yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss zzz
i write this code:
date input: date ---> 27/03/2012

as you all can see i got the date in GMT and not in UTC
some one have an idea?

i think, Here GMT show Standard time and GMT and UTC both are same.

The dateFormat of the formatter needs to match the format of the string you are providing it with.
Therefore something like this should work
NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
formatter.dateFormat = #"EEE, dd MMM yyyy HH:mm:ss ZZZ";
NSLog(#"%#", [formatter dateFromString:#"Fri, 18 Jan 2013 15:30:22 +0000"]);
To look up what the specifiers actually mean check Unicode Technical Standard #35
Try this code
NSDateFormatter *df = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[df setDateFormat:#"EEEE, dd MMM yyyy"];

in your self.event, you are getting CST, it should be time zone for example +0530

When using 24 hour time, the hours specifier needs to be a capital H like this:
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss Z"];

However, you need to set the locale for the date formatter:

I am attempting to format an NSString which looks like:

The NSDateFormatter always returns nil and I think it is because it cannot convert the NSString in it's current format to the desired one. Here is my code:

Your dateFormatter doesn't match your dateString... Try this

dateString=[formatter stringFromDate:date];
now dateString contains "July 19, 2012 02:58 AM"

To convert an ISO date string to NSDate:
NSDateFormatter *df = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[df setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone timeZoneWithName:#"UTC"]];
[df setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss'Z'"];
NSDate *date = [df dateFromString:date_str];
You can then convert it to your local time zone:
[df setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone localTimeZone]];
[df setDateFormat:#"HH:mm:ss EEEE, MMM d"];
In your code, your [datetime intValue] is probably incorrect.
