Can you help me to setup the ImageJ plugin development with NetBeans IDE?
I tried with existing project, but there is two problem's:
- Java Free form porject: i cannot attach the onvif.xsd in this project.
- i'm trying this tutorial: tutorial but in the netbeans 7.2.1 i can't do this: "Go to Build>Compile "(The name of your plugin)""
please give me advise!
I am using Maven to develop ImageJ plugins in NetBeans. I'll show how to create and debug a simple plugin.
You can start by creating a new Maven project File->New Project->Maven->Java Application and creating a simple PlugIn class:

Now create a plugins.config file in folder src/main/resources with content:

The first String is the menu folder in which your plugin will appear, the second is the menu label and the third is the full class name of the class to run when the menu item is clicked.
Next step is to add a dependency to ij.jar which contains the ImageJ classes. This can be done by editing the pom.xml file and adding:

During the build process Maven will automatically download the required library from internet. It can also download source and JavaDoc.
ImageJ requires that the name of the final jar contains an underscore so we set the filename accordingly. Change pom.xml to contain something like this:

This is all you need to build a ImageJ plugin. If you compile it and copy the jar to ImageJ plugins directory you should see your plugin in the ImageJ plugin menu. If you do not want to debug your plugin in Netbeans, you can stop here.
I do like to copy the new jar to the ImageJ plugins folder when I compile it in Netbeans so I can quickly try it out. You don't even have to restart ImageJ to run your new plugin. Just click Help->Refresh Menus in ImageJ to reload plugins. To copy the plugin to the ImageJ folder on comile, edit pom.xml to contain:

And edit the imagej.path property to point to your ImageJ installation folder (not the plugins folder). Now your plugin should be copied to the plugins folder on each build.
To be able to debug your plugin from Netbeans add this to your pom.xml:

And then right click on your project and select properties. In the Actions tab edit the Debug Project action to this:

Now when you click Debug Project in NetBeans ImageJ shoud run and you shoud be able to debug your plugins.

How can I create j2ee project with maven having glassfish 4 as target runtime?
I use eclipse Mars. I follow the 'Dynamic web project' wizard, I select glassfish 4 as 'Target runtime'. When wizard ends I open the project and under the nodes 'Java resources->Libraries' I can see the glassfish system library bundle.
Now I would create the same project using maven. I've searched for an archetype giving me the same library bundle to avoid problem on deploy but I haven't found a definitive one.
The more close appears to be the jersey-quickstart-webapp but when I look the dependencies these are just a bunch respect to glassfish runtime. It's possible? It sounds strange to me, maybe I am making mistakes, am I following the right approach?

I am trying to reuse a assembled gwt compilation in another war. For this i am try to change the current maven module's packaging from war to pom. I then plan to use maven-assembly-plugin to zip up gwt's module js output and use that later on in another war module.
I tried changing the packaging tag from <packaging>war</packaging> to <packaging>pom</packaging> in pom.xml from Validation sample . gwt-maven-plugin never enters into compilation. Instead, it skips compilation!!!!!
What is happening?
Is this expected?
Is there any workaround?
To join multiple gwt compiled modules into a single .war file, it is very easy with the maven-dependency-plugin
Package all your gwt examples as habitual (.war), and install them mvn install or mvn deploy if you have a private maven repo.
Create an empty maven module of type war, with no code but with the maven folder structure, you can put any additional stuff you need here like a global src/main/webapp/index.html.
Configure the new module to use the maven-dependency-plugin like shown below, and run mvn package:

Unfortunately, gwt-maven-plugin specifically disallows compilation when packaging is pom, take a look to line #269 of CompileMojo.java
You can create the reusable modules (that you mention as samples in the comments) as separate GWT projects with no EntryPoint. Package them as jar and add the following as resources:
the client side source code
other resource items that will be necessary for the final compilation (images, xml files, etc.)
Something like this:

As for Maven's behaviour, it seems correct. pom packaging is going through package, install and deploy phases and
By default, the compile goal is configured to be executed during the ''prepare-package'' phase to run as late as possible.
You could change the phase in the plugin's execution, but I think it's risky because you can't know when exactly during the package phase will your code get compiled.
I'm developing a Java web project in Eclipse (STS version 2.8.1.RELEASE) with Maven (version 2.2.1) and unit tests written in Groovy. The unit tests are located under src/test/groovy. Furthermore I'm using the m2eclipse plugin for Eclipse (version 1.0) and the Gmaven plugin in Maven (version 1.3).
Building in Maven works without problems: the groovy files are compiled and executed as tests. For the unit tests to work in Eclipse I added the Groovy nature to the project, added the folder src/test/groovy under Configure Build Path... and set the output folder to target/test-classes.
This works until I do an update of the project configuration under Maven -> Update Project Configuration.... After I do this every time the directory src/test/groovy gets removed from the source folders in Eclipse and I have to add it again and set the output directory.
Is there something I am missing or why is Eclipse deleting my source folder configuration every time I do an update of the project configuration?

I have a maven project in eclipse and have maven goals that run annotation processors to generate code. The output folder for this code is target/generated-sources/apt.
In order for Eclipse to see this generated code I need to add target/generated-sources/apt as a source folder to the Eclipse project.
However, this causes there to be an error of type "Maven Configuration Problem" saying
Project configuration is not up-to-date with pom.xml. Run project
configuration update
I think I understand why this is the case as Eclipse has a different set of source folders to Maven's set. But I need this different set, as I need Eclipse to be able to see the generated source folders...
When doing a pure Maven built, these source folders will be included in the build, by Maven.
BTW, I have upgraded to the official Eclipse release of the Maven Eclipse plugin, m2e 1.0 - what used to be m2eclipse. I'd like to see if I can find a work around/solution to this with the m2e plugin before I have to go back to the old m2eclipse version.

You will also need to:
Install the "Apt M2E Connector" from the Eclipse Marketplace.
To do so click the error in the Overview tab of your pom.xml and select "Discover".
Ensure there are no plugin execution filters for the build-helper-maven-plugin (see https://www.eclipse.org/m2e/documentation/m2e-execution-not-covered.html)
Right-click the Error message:
Project configuration is not up-to-date with pom.xml Run project

in the Problems View and select Quick Fix and click Finish to select the default Update project configuration. This fixes it.
After switching to new versions of m2e/maven/apt,... i had builderrors because of the duplicated files, caused by the added buildpath by the buildhelper, so i needed to remove the "apt-generated"-Folders from the buildhelper.
To fix the Problem in Eclipse, not adding the "apt-generated"-folder via Update Maven Configuration in M2E, i've written a M2E Plugin to fix this problem. It adds the outputDirectories configured in the maven-apt-plugin to the buildpath of the Project.

In m2e 1.0 the handling of Maven plugins has changed. You might be lacking a specific m2e extension for your code generating plugin. Here is all the documentation I managed to find.

request on CXF JIRA (see 1) to add lifecycle mappings in the cxf-codegen-plugin itself. This would require m2e 1.1 but I believe it is better approach than having connectors built outside of cxf project, assuming that lifecycle mapping API would change less frequently than cxf-codegen-plugin and cxf.
You can also use the buildhelper m2e connector available in the discovery catalog. I'm using Eclipse 3.7

But in eclipse I have the same error on Asinc class.
Just press F5 on project. Fix this problem.
This was what I found that worked good using spring 3.1.1 which does have the 3.0.6 version as well in it. Once I got the plugins setup and put into the correct area of the pom and included the argline and endorseddirs to have the java sources put out into the target/generated-sources/cxf folder then maven generated the sources ok.

In case for some reason you can't use the build helper plugin the easiest way (albeit not as convenient and somewhat tedious) I have found to deal with this is:
Separate the generated source code into its own project or sub module.
You will want to keep this project predominately closed or not imported into Eclipse when you are working on the parent project.
In the parent project that needs the generated code make sure to now depend on the generated source code project via Maven pom dependency.
When you need to update the generated code go to the generated code project and run mvn install. Now refresh the parent project by right clicking and selecting Maven->Update Project...
This generally works well for projects that use a semi static source for code generation such as SOAP WSDLs (Apache CXF) or code generated from a database (jOOQ). For APT and other AspectJ-like-code it doesn't work as well because you are editing the source frequently.

Pick the correct link from the list and add it as an eclipse update site. It should ask you for a bunch (seriously.. a huge bunch ) of eclipse updates . Please accept and you are good to go.

but be aware, that the destination folder always has to be equal to the configuration of the plugin u're using for the annotation processing itself.
for example the maven-processor-plugin uses the target folder ${project.build.directory}/generated-sources/apt as default. if you wish another destination for your generated source files you can set it by the tag as shown below.

I'm using Google Protocol Buffers to generate some Java classes for my project. Using Maven 2 and its "antrun" plugin, these classes are freshly generated before compile, output to target/generated-sources and put on the classpath during the build. So building the project from the POM is no problem.
However, Eclipse doesn't know how to resolve the generated class, because the folder it's in doesn't seem to be on the IDE's classpath during development. I'm using m2eclipse and have it manage dependencies for me, so I had expected Maven to take care of this.
How can I get IDE support (code completion etc.) for the generated code?

The second step might not be necessary, if your eclipse installation has installed the "org.eclipse.m2e.discovery.lifecyclemapping.buildhelper.xml" plugin. This plugin is available via Window -> Preferences -> Maven -> Discovery. Currently, that does not work here at Eclipse Kepler, therefore, I fetched the JAR (linked from the xml shown in the Catalog URL) and extracted the fragments from org.eclipse.m2e.discovery.lifecyclemapping.buildhelper.xml by hand.
m2eclipse doesn't support this. You must manually add the folder target/generated-sources as a source folder. When you tell m2eclipse to "Update Project Configuration", this will be overwritten and you have to restore it.
Also, make sure that Eclipse looks for changes in the workspace.
There might be some issues, though. Eventually, you'll run into errors that some class can't be compiled because some other class can't be resolved. Code completion will work, though. The root cause of this issue is that Eclipse gets confused when Maven changes class files in target.
To solve this, you must tell Eclipse to compile to a different place than Maven.
What you should see in your project explorer is a container named "Maven Dependencies" in place of the usual "Referenced libraries". This means m2eclipse is managing your build path.
In my case, to achieve this, I checked "Include Modules" and unchecked "Skip Maven compiler plugin when processing resources" on the "Maven" section of Project->Properties.
Personally I resolved this problem by setting up the generated classes as a seperate project and made it a dependency in my main (non-generated) project. I was using wsdl2java to generate webservice classes so the "source" in my sub-project was the wdsl and xsds. Worked well even when the wsdl was changing regularly.
I had this issue with code generated using Maven and wsdl2java and here's what I did in Eclipse Juno to resolve it. Assume my project is named project1:
Right-click project1 and select Properties
Choose Java Build Path from the left and select the Libraries tab
Click Add Class Folder
Select the bin directory and click OK (project1/target/generated-sources/bin)
Click OK and Refresh the project
As an added bonus you can also attach the source code:
Click the arrow next to the new class folder you just created
Click on Source attachment
Click the Edit button
Set the Path to /project1/target/generated-sources/axis2/src
Click OK
Right-click project and select Properties
Choose Java Build Pathfrom the left and select the Source tab
Click Add Folder
Select the bin directory and click OK
(project/target/generated-sources/xxxx) Click OK and Refresh the project
How can I get IDE support (code completion etc.) for the generated code?
Typically I would add the m2e lifecycle-mapping plugin to the pom.xml file as described in #koppor's answer. However adding per-eclipse code to my pom.xml files is not an option at work which is mostly an IntelliJ shop.
My solution first adds the build-helper-maven-plugin to the pom.xml which works fine from the command line but not in eclipse.

To fix eclipse I installed the Apt M2E Connector from the Eclipse Marketplace. I think things started working right after I restarted and then rebuilt all of my projects. I now see the following in my source dirs:

When an external tool generate new files or updates old ones, Eclipse will not be able to detect the change until the next request.
Another option would be to define a new Custom builder, specifying for that builder to "refresh resources upon completion":

To generate Java source files from .proto files use Protocol Buffers Plugin which works out-of-the-box in eclipse Oxygen.
Basic usage (see here for detailed description):
make sure that native protoc compiler is installed on your system
update your pom.xml file:
make sure you use at least Java 6 (Java 7+ is recommended)
add plugin invocation
add the corresponding dependency for com.google.protobuf:protobuf-java
put your .proto files inside project's src/main/proto directory
update the project (via Maven -> Update project...)
