I have an application in facebook. And I want to add the ability for installing this app on the user's personal timeline.
What is to be done in the application?
I tried to found any answer in the documentation (for example http://developers.facebook.com/docs/appsonfacebook/pagetabs/ ). I found a way to install an app to the fan page only.
But I need the ability to install app to the user's personal profile.
"Tabs" (in the way you can build them for pages) are not supported on user-profiles since more than 2 years!
The only way to have an application-tile on a users profile (like shown on the screenshot below) is by publishing Open Graph-actions through the app.
However, these are not "Tabs" in the sense that you have an iframe which you can build to your needs. They simply display the Open Grap-aggregations defined in the app-dashboard:
Also, these Timeline-aggregations seem to be quite buggy since quite a while, so I wouldn't recommend relying to much on them:

My use case is fairly simple: I want do display the latest images of an Instagram profile I own on a public website I own.
For this purpose I've written an integration of the Instagram Basic Display API, registered an app with https://developers.facebook.com/apps/, implemented an automated access token renewal mechanism and everything works locally.
So, as I'm about to publish this feature to the website, I'm not able to find any official policy from Facebook that clearifies whether or not I'm required to put this app in "Live Mode".
Technically, "Live Mode" has no benefits to my use case and I'd find it way out of proportion to go through an App Review process, just to display a list of images that are my own anyway. So my question is:
Given this scenario, is it allowed to keep said App in "Development Mode", while still using its data for production purposes?
And: Are there any official statements on this, that any of you might be aware of and that I'm just not able to find?
I found this: https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2019/09/23/live-mode-for-production-use/
But even though the headline is fairly unambiguous, the article itself doesn't help making the issue any clearer...
It is OK to use Development mode in such case: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/app-review/introduction
If your app will only be used by app users who have a role on the app or claimant Business, App Review is not required and your app does not need to be switched to Live mode.
I have like/share buttons on my website and am not currently using an appid. Finding information on whether this is a necessity for the above configuration is difficult to confirm. When going through the Facebook app "create" forms, I'm really confused by a lot of the requirements as it seems to be more focused around actual apps rather than websites, which login via fb etc.
In the past I have created an app for one of my other websites and I don't believe there was any verification/submission process at this point (about 2-3 years ago). Reviewing my old app configuration now I can see that it is not "live" - does anyone know whether Facebook implemented this submission process in the last couple of years, and then de-activated any live apps that were created prior to this?
I now want to setup a new app for my new website and I'm unsure what the different 'action types' mean and what I would need to simply use like/share buttons on the website. Could someone give me a quick run down of what I'd need and what they are?
Any other info/tips people can provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm finding that the like/share DO still work without the app, but sometimes the share button doesn't work properly (I have a feeling this is something to do with the app).
Thanks
If you are just using the Social Plugins, you don't need to have a Facebook App ID.
If you want more integration, it will be required. Creating an App ID is like registering your App, wether an iOS or Android App or just a website, so that you can make Graph API calls for it.
The easiest way to register your website is to go the quickstart: https://developers.facebook.com/quickstarts/?platform=web (or https://developers.facebook.com/apps). There you can type a name and follow the steps.
You can then follow the "Sharing best practices" (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/best-practices#tags) on how to use the App ID. For example, by including an fb:app_id meta tag on your pages.
There is a review process, since last April, but that is only needed if you use permissions for your App. If you just use the plugins, that is not needed.
Can you explain more what is exactly not working?
Update
The time you create a page the Facebook crawler does not know yet what the Opengraph data for that one is. This will happen after the first share, but if you want to ensure it is correct from the first share on, you can force a re-scrape.
This section explains how that works:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/opengraph/using-objects#update
When an app triggers a scrape using an API endpoint This Graph API
endpoint is simply a call to:
POST /?id={object-instance-id or object-url}&scrape=true
I want to get approval for my app id only for the like and share buttons of facebook but it seems that it got more complicated then before.
When I go to my app then javascript sdk to create the code of javascript for my site it shows
This app is in Development Mode and not available publicly.
Modo público can be enabled in the App Dashboard.
So then I go to the app dashboard and it is asking a lot of information I don't have because it's only to have the like button in my site I don't want to read more likes of users.
So anyone can help me to find the right way to do this.
The only thing you should have to fill in to make the app public is the Contact Email on the main Settings page:
(source: infused.org)
Found this thread whilst having the same problem. In addition to infused's post, you have to go to "status and review" and turn "Do you want to make this app and all its live features available to the general public?" to Yes.
Furthermore, I noticed that removing the app id (as per the code you get if you are not logged in and go to the plugin generator page), then the code does not work at all.
Also, if the app is not set as live, then it will still sometimes work - just to make things harder to debug.

Can anyone tell me what kind of facebook app it is? canvas or something else?
I would want to create an app in php but have no clue where to start from. Can i create a test app and start the process? please help.
I have tried creating an app but that needs to be approved before even starting the development and showing us as a page on facebook app
Any app with an address of apps.facebook.com/* is the Canvas link to the App, which means this app has a canvas page at the minimum. It may also have a website and mobile app associated with it, but that's harder to determine.
You should so some research before trying to create an app. You do not need to get any sort of approval to develop an application, even if you use excessive permissions. However, you will need to get your app approved for any extra permissions prior to launching to end-users.
You should visit the Facebook Developer website and pick a SDK you're comfortable with. I would recommend using the JavaScript one to get started, but the choice is yours. Then you should follow the starter guide to creating your first app. Everything you need to create an app is discoverable through Google, and I have a few handy tutorials on my site for using the PHP and JavaScript SDKs.
I'm developing a website that required a Facebook Fan page, an app for sharing and authorizing and another app as a tab app for the page.
Now I'm facing a problem that when one searches the Facebook, all these three instances appears in the search, and the bad thing is that the Official Fan Page is third in the results :(
I wonder if there's any way to remove these apps from search results without removing them as I'd like to save all the likes these apps have received?
Thanks!
There is no way to remove apps from search, but as per https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/611/ the app profile pages are deprecated and will be removed in a few months
Ensure that social discovery is disabled (Settings > Advanced > Social Discovery).
Edit: Since this doesn't work (see #Igy's comment), I would try to merge these apps into one.
