Iphone 5 and Iphone 4 screen issue - iphone

I'm creating an app using xcode 4.5 that is meant to support only the 3.5 inch retina display. Thus, in the attributes inspector for the view controller I have set the size to be 3.5 inches. However, I'm testing my app on a iphone 5 and the app auto-resizes to fit the whole screen. Do you know why this is happening? How can i make the app remain in 3.5 inches of size even when viewed off of a iphone 5?
Thanks

If you remove the default 568h#2x icon from your project the app will run the way you want. On the iPhone 5, you will get black bars on top and bottom to show what it would look like on the 4. Hope this helps.

The answer is - you can't do that :) But you can download ios5 simulator and set it's device property to 3.5 screen device

Black bars showing when running app on iOS 7 (4 inch retina display)

We have an iPod app built with base SDK as 5.1.
App has a tabBarController with three tabs and each tab has a UIViewController to load a different view.
The app works fine for iOS 6.1 and iOS 7 (3.5 inch display) simulator and device but when we run the app on
iOS 7 (4 inch display simulator) or device we are getting black bars at the top and bottom of the view screen in all three tabs.
If anyone can suggest reason for this or some feasible solution to this problem, it would be really helpful for us.
Thanks
First thing is that you must add the required default image for 4 inch screen display. Check Properly in you project have image with name Default-568h#2x.png (640 × 1136 pixels)
This Default-568h#2x.png is Necessary for Support app in 4 inch Screen display
Ones you add this image in to you working Project, Remove old Build from device or Simulatore, clear Project and re build and check Hope you issue will solve.
Edit:-
After fix the black Bar issue you can check the device like my answer Give here check this:-
Detect device type
you have two choice if you can't use AutoLayout
First
Create two xib with same class one for 3.5 inch screen and one for 4 inch screen set using macro with checking which screen appear.
Second
Set Self.view frame using macro with checking which screen appear.
There are also other methods you can use for set self.view frame as using window frame or UIScreen
My problem was I accidentally deleted the value found here:
I added back LaunchScreen, and made sure there was a LaunchScreen.xib. Maybe it will help some others.
Ive had the same problem - black bars at the top and bottom. It was simply solved by setting the drop down in "App Icons and Launch Images" to Main_iPhone:
App Icons and Launch Images Screen Shot
I was facing same problem . I just added launch image and it worked for me.
XCode->Click on Project File -> Select Target-> App Icons and Launch Images -> Add launch image source
This worked!
Pay attention to Step#5 and Step#6 below:
1.In xcode, Click on the Project file in Project Navigator
2.Click General tab
3.Type "Main_iPhone" in the Launch Screen File field
4.Save
5.Remove the app from device or simulator
6.Then in Xcode go to Product Menu and then select Clean
7.Build again

App runs on iphone 5 like iphone 4

I have finally done to build Augmented Reality app.
The app works great for iphone 4 screen size Width :480 Height :320.
During the development I have also test the simulator to see launch goes well for 4 inch display (iphone 5), and it did go well the splash screen show was the 4 inch png named : Default-568h#2x.png and the screen shows a white background fully (like it should).
When I launch the app on a real iphone 5 device, the 3.5 inch splash screen loaded and the app load like it loads on iphone 4. Everything in the middle and I get a little black equal Margins from the side, the cable is original and this is the Weirdest thing ever happened to me.
UPDATE : i have also tried to add this code on the simulator and to the real device :
CGRect bounds = [[UIScreen mainScreen]bounds];
NSLog(#"%#",NSStringFromCGRect(bounds));
the simulator prints iphone 5 screen size, the real device prints iphone 4 size.
Any help please
Make sure you have all three Launch images set up correctly. :)
Make sure the image has been added to the target.
=> If you select your image file in the Project Navigator (left pane) the Utilities pane (right pane) should have a checkmark under 'Target Membership' next to your target.
I think that your views need to resize. You may need to include some code that detects what device the person is using and resizes the view. Just a suggestion.

How to make iPhone4 and below version app compatible for iPhone5?

I have an application in iphone market which works for iPhone 4s and lower version. So now iPhone 5 has been launched which bigger size screen, my question is what all changes i have to do in my application so that it will be compatible with iPhone 5 also.
1) Do i have to rebuild my app for iPhone 5?
2) Do i have to make changes only in UI ?
3) Will the iPhone 5 will its make it compatible?
Your valuable replies will help me a lot. Thanks in advance.
Here is my answers,
1) Do i have to rebuild my app for iPhone 5?
If you want to utilize the complete screen space, you can add Default-568h#2x.png and rebuild the app and release it.
2) Do i have to make changes only in UI ?
You can utilize the complete screen space for iphone 5. You can code for screen modifications in case of other iPhones.
3) Will the iPhone 5 will its make it compatible?
Yes. It will make it automatically compatible. It will add a black strip on top and bottom to compensate for the extra space in the screen unless you add Default-568h#2x.png.
If your app uses the standard UIKit provided by Apple, you only need to add a 4 inch launch image to your app, and it will automatically resized itself. But if your app using custom controls or graphics-heavy like in games, you might want to adjust the images and take advantage of the larger screen.
You also have to make sure the methods you used do not deprecated on iOS6 to prevent the app from crashing. Some references if you need further reading.
To make older app compatible with iPhone 5 You need to look for Following things.
Latest Xcode version 4.5.
Open your project and select Upgrade settings for new version.
Add Default-568h#2x.png for new resolution .
For UI you have to change your xib's object autoresizing property. When you select View Go to
inspector and select size property It will show you None, Full Screen, Retina 4 options . Set autoresize property for all your Buttons , labels and check xib for retina 4 and None both.It is same like you set it for Landscape and portrait .
5.Some other changed will be in code because some method has been depreciated for ios 6.0.
6. After doing all this .You can run it on iphone 5 simulator for testing.
I have an app that was using GLKMatrix3 and its supporting functions. I found that the GLKMatrix3Multiply function would always crash on iPhone 5 hardware. Easy to workaround using GLKMatrix4 instead, but the point is that I would never have found the problem without actually trying my app on iPhone 5 hardware.
I was told to file a bug for the GLKMatrix3 problem, so maybe this will be fixed. But the code runs just fine in the iOS 6 simulator.
I learned from this that, whether or not you need to rebuild your app for iPhone 5, you do need to at least run your app on a device before advertising support for that device.

space left on header and footer in 4 inch retina iPhone simulator

why some space left on header and footer portion of iPhone 4-inch simulator. its running fine on normal iPhone screen.i just developed app on Xcode 4.3 but after upgrading to 4.5 there one option to change simulator retina to 4 inch screen and its left some space automatically on header and footer which i focus by red box in below image.
You'll see that you have a warning about the Default-568h#2x.png file, the retina display splash. Add it and if the screen was designed properly it should fill the black gaps.
Probably your application doesn't support iPhone 5 (4" screen). You can enable support of this screen by adding to your project launch image 4" - Default-568h#2x.png (640x1136 px)
I think you are using simulator 6.0 for running your Project.
It's for iphone 6 development.
so change your simulator to below version from 6.0 or
Just Rename your Default.png to Default-568h#2x.png
Hope it will helps you.

How to develop or migrate apps for iPhone 5 screen resolution?
I'm (still) trying to convert one of my iPhone applications to iPhone 5, but it still looks like this in the simulator...
What am i doing and why won't it fill up the entire screen?
Have you provided a 4" sized launch image? That's the indicator that tells the OS that your application supports the full screen.
Have you selected in your UIView attributes inspector in XCode iPhone 5 screen size?
Please have a look at the url,
iPhone 5 TabBar not functioning in proper position
Now, in xib, at the right side, under 'Interface Builder Document', put a tick-mark on use autolayout and fix your objects in xib accordinlgy.
Download and install Xcode 4.5 GM. Set a 4-inch launch image for
your app. This is how you get 1136px screen height (without it, you
will get 960px with black margins on top and bottom).
Test your app, and hopefully do nothing else, since everything should work magically if you had set auto resizing masks properly. If you didn't, adjust your view layouts with proper auto resizing masks or look into Auto Layout if you only want to support iOS 6 going forward.
Also note: The auto-rotation API has changed completely, take a look at that as well if your application supports any rotation other than default.
