Cannot get jabber clients to connect to ejabberd running on localhost - xmpp

I installed ejabberd on my linux mint kde. It installed correctly, I am able to use the admin interface in the browser at http://localhost:5280/admin/ to add users. In the nodes menu it shows me one node running as ejabberd#localhost. There is a virtual host called inspiron-n4050 which it created on its own. Now i registered 2 users from the admin interface lovesh#inspiron-n4050 and test#inspiron-n4050. Now from my IM client(Kopete) i created 2 jabber accounts with jabberIds lovesh#inspiron-n4050 and test#inspiron-n4050. But when i try to connect any of these it shows me error Connection problem with jabber server inspiron-n4050. There was a connection error: Remote closed connection
ejabberd is running because on the shell when i check ejabberdctl status it says
The node ejabberd#localhost is started with status: started
ejabberd 2.1.11 is running in that node
What is wrong?

Reinstalling ejabberd fixed the problem

I used this steps in pidgin xmpp. You can check out similar options on kopete.
Change proxy options to No Proxy
In Connection Security, Use encryption if available
Check allow plain text on unencrypted streams.
After this steps I am able to chat within two pidgin clients over a Intranet.

i noticed that the there is a distinction between username "host" and actual hostname:

i had to use these settings to get it to work:
username: username#localhost
hostname: www.theactualserver.com
port: 5222

Hi i am using openfire as my im server to my mobile app client, I have added the Httpfileupload plugin to openfire and enabled the http bind settings, when I try to upload a file it shows me this error Failed to connect to localhost/127.0.0.1:7443 ,
and the servers send me this XML message <get url="https://localhost:7443/httpfileupload/45726202-5e69-4b5c-a533-00d82f6d1121/4add76e7f15b6b4f.png"/>
I’ve tried to access this uri but it doesn’t work
please help me with this issues

You appear to have set up Openfire using the value 'localhost' as its XMPP domain and/or fully qualified domain name for the server that is running Openfire. This is a recipe for disaster. Openfire is broadcasting the address of the content that is managed by its HTTP File Upload plugin, and uses the value that was configured, 'localhost'. Clients, which typically run on different machines, will try to connect to this host. As they're instructed to connect to 'localhost', they'll never be able to reach Openfire.
My advise is to setup Openfire again, and use proper, network-reachable addresses for values of the XMPP domain name and FQDN (these are asked for in the second page of the setup wizard, if memory serves).

Possible reasons why my shadowsocks not working on virmach's server?

I'm a new comer to using the overseas server. Recently I bought a vps from virmach in order to see foreign websites like google and wiki.
I've been trying for a long time configuring my shadowsocks on my server.
However, when I was using shadowsocks-qt5 to connect my server, it was timeout.
And of course I can't access google correctly.
What I want to ask is the reason why I failed.
Here are things that I do remember to do:
stop the firewall on both computers;
build the .json file which I referred to blogs in China.
Here are the outline of my shadowsocks.json on my server:

I could not help but wandered, are there any other possible reasons I've forgot? Can anyone inform me some helpful details to solve this puzzling problems? Thanks a lot!
I have not set up my own VPS but I have instead subscribed to the server provided by caonima.io, so I can't speak for any server related issues. Additionally, I have no affiliation with caonima.io. I did however successfully set up my client on Ubuntu 16.04 after having some issues connecting to GFW-blocked (China's Great FireWall) websites.
From what I understand from my solution, the client configuration is NOT the only step of setup. There are two layers of proxy access that need to be completed:
Client Configuration. Configure your client with the server and connection information. A successful connection looked like this for me with my command line interface

System or Browser Proxy Configuration. You will need to configure either your browser or web access tool to use a proxy, or set system-wide proxy settings. To set system wide proxy settings, go to system settings > network > network proxy and enter the proxy information. Setting Socks host to localhost:1080 resulted in successful GFW-blocked website access (as shown below)!

Java Web application not sending Email on Ubuntu server

My play framework web application sends automatically emails to user using Apache commons email library, everything works fine on my machine, but when I deploy it on an Ubuntu server it is unable to send email.
It throws exceptions like org.apache.commons.mail.EmailException: Sending the email to the following server failed : smtp.googlemail.com:465 (I also tried different configuration with smtp.google.mail port 465,25 and 587 with or without ssl and tls)
and connection timed out.
I starting to believe that is a problem of some configuration of my ubuntu server.
Any suggestion?
If i type ufw status command I receive status disabled.

I am going to close this question, because I found the solution. Basically my Server provider (Scaleway) has a security configuration where SMTP is blocked. I asked them to unlock It.

MongoDB - Prevent unauthorized user from opening console

Trying to set up authorization in my development cluster, I couldn't prevent users from opening a console to my mongods.
I have enabled authorization in the config file:

And have created an admin user with the userAdminAnyDatabase role.
Yet, when connecting unauthorized to this server from another machine, I can enter the console.
I do get permission error when trying to issue commands, but I would like to know if there's any way of preventing the console from opening - getting the permission error earlier.
If you only need to access your MongoDB deployment from applications running on the same server you can use the bind_ip configuration option to control the network interface(s) that MongoDB processes listen to. By default this should already be set to '127.0.0.1' (localhost) in packaged versions of MongoDB 2.6+.
If you want to have the server listening to a more public network interface (eg. local LAN) and want to prevent remote connections entirely, you can limit source IP access via your firewall configuration.
The Network Security Tutorials in the MongoDB manual include examples that should be useful as a starting point:

If users/applications might authenticate from those remote IPs, you can't prevent them from opening a console connection (with no permissions). This is similar to how other services (sshd, apache, etc) work with authentication: step 1 is to establish a connection and step 2 authenticates.

Can't connects XenCenter with XenServer

I am trying to connect XenCenter 6.0 to Server installed with XENSERVER 6.0 but i can't connect.
It give me error when i try to connect :
"Unable to connect to server '192.xxx.xxx.xxx'.
The connection was refused.
Check that Xenserver is configured correctly on '192.xxx.xxx.xxx'."
Also When i was using another computer for connecting xencenter, It was disconnecting automatically every time i connect
Examine some details:
List item
the server is power-on
the network configuration is right.(try to use "ping" or "ssh" to check)
the firewall setting
duplicate IP address which has been used
There are two possible scenarios in this case .
Either
1. The xenserver physical machine is powered off.
Or
2. The network cable is not connected properly.
If the server is pingable, make sure xapi and xapi-ssl are running.
ssh to the xen server and check the following:
/etc/init.d/xapi status
/etc/init.d/xapi-ssl status
If they are not running restart them
/etc/init.d/xapi start
/etc/init.d/xapi-ssl start
might require a xe-toolstack-restart
