Launch splash screen in Landscape mode for iPhone 5 - iphone

Our universal application is in Landscape mode only. We need to add a splash screen for iPhone 4 & iPhone 5.
For iPhone 5 in Portrait we use Default-568h#2x.png. How to set a launch screen in Landscape for iPhone 5?

According to Apple's Documentation : Providing Launch Images for Different Orientations
,
Each orientation-specific launch image must include a special modifier string in its filename. The format for orientation-specific launch image filenames is as follows:
<basename><orientation_modifier><scale_modifier><device_modifier>.png
Eg :
1) Default-Portrait.png
2) Default-PortraitUpsideDown.png
3) Default-Landscape.png
4) Default-LandscapeLeft.png
5) Default-LandscapeRight.png
Note : These modifiers are supported for launch images used in iPad apps only.
So you have to change your Image according to the Orientation for iPhone 5.
Two ways to do that :
1) Rotating the Splash Image to 90 Degree.
2) Inverting the Dimensions (320 * 480 -> 480 * 320).

to provide a landscape launch image you must create the image.. and just rotate it 90 degrees in an external image editor

Very simple
make design on splash screen in landscape mode .
and just make splash screen as you do in portrait .
user automatically make phone landscape when he/she see screen is in landscape :-)

From Apple doc, landscapes launch screens are supported for iPad only.
For iPhone and iPod Touch, you need to create a portrait launch screen that can be your 90°-oriented landscape launch screen. I would apply a clockwise rotation rather than a counter-clockwise rotation (ie so that on a desktop, you need to bend your head on the right to see the image with the correct orientation).

use these macros in pch file
#if IS_iPAD
LaunchImage=iPad.png
else
LaunchImage=iPhone.png

Xcode Launch images screens for landscape app

I'm developing universal app (game) which working only in landscape modes. Can I do not specify Launch images for portrait mode for saving size?
Yes, adding "Default-Landscape.png" will be enough, if you need so.
"Universal apps must provide launch images for both the iPhone and iPad idioms".. BUT.. launch images for the iPhone are only accepted in portrait mode (link).
so.. for Default.png or Default-iphone.png .. to provide a landscape launch image you must create the image and rotate it 90 degrees in an image editor

landscape splash screen for iphone apps?

i am developing an app which supports all orientations. i need to launch the splash screen (launching image) in all orientation types. but the project summary have only one field (portrait) to set the Default.png. how will i launch the landscape splash screen on my iphone app.
ipad have some features to setup both the orientations. is their anything like that in iphone,
thank you in advance
iPhone splash screen is only Portrait. iPad has landscape too because iPad home screen auto rotates unlike iPhone's.
In order to achieve such a behavior you can make your first screen identical to the splash screen ( add the same image on the background) . So it will look like a landscaped splash screen while you are loading the resources needed for your app but you can't start the app in landscape mode.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Nope, according to HIG, iPhone's default orientation is portrait and launch will do only portrait mode.
Let me quote a special behaviour
From Technical Note TN2244 Launching your iPhone Application in Landscape
Except for launch images used by the iPhone 6 Plus, asset catalogs assume that all iPhone launch images are for the portrait orientation.
Therefore
Launch images for iPhone apps are always sized to match the dimensions of the screen in portrait orientation. For applications that launch into landscape orientation, you should use your preferred graphics editing software to rotate the content of the launch image while keeping the image's size consistent with a portrait launch image (height > width).
if you don't do things correctly, you can end up with a blank/white screen
The result is a blank screen during launch as the system cannot find an appropriate launch image.
Unfortunately, the document was last updated 2 years ago.
2015-05-26 Updated for Xcode 6 and iOS 8.

The Default.png of size 480x320 in landscape mode in iphone

I am developing an application that is in landscape mode. I have Default.png with size 480x320.
But still when it launches the default image comes in portrait mode not in landscape mode.
However it should come according to the device oreintation.
If i take default.png with same size in allready rotated. then it comes as it was in rotated mode.
However it should come according to the device oreintation.
Please help me
There is an answer to question How to put Default.png in landscape mode? by #brentford that should help you.
There is also an article by John Muchow which outlines a different way one way to accomplish what you want to do.
Taken straight from here
"In iOS 3.2 and later, an iPad application can provide different launch images depending on whether the device is in a portrait or landscape configuration. To specify a launch image for a different orientation, you must add a special modifier string to the base file name of your standard launch image. Thus, the format of each file name becomes the following:
[basename][orientation_modifier][scale_modifier][device_modifier].png"
So in your example you could have:
Default-Landscape.png
Default-Portrait.png
(Default-Landscape#2x.png for iphone 4 and Default-Landscape~ipad.png for ipad and so forth...)
both have to be 320x480 and you'll have to ensure that your app's Info.plist contains all 4 UISupportedOrientation values (UIOrientationPortrait, UIOrientationLandscapeLeft etc etc). But see my above link for a better explanation.
I believe the splashscreen is loaded without checking for orientation.
Try to set UIInterfaceOrientation key in the info.plist file to UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft (iPhone home button will be on the left) or UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight (home button on right).

Are iPhone/iPod Touch screenshots in landscape mode displayed that way in the app store?

I recently uploaded some screenshots of my app to itunesconnect. All the screenshots are in landscape mode (I rotated them using iPhoto). On the itunesconnect page where I uploaded the screenshots they all appeared in landscape mode... fine. Now on another page in itunesconnect they all appeared in portrait mode (and they were squished). How will the images appear in the app store? Landscape just like I uploaded them? or perhaps I need to set something somewhere to let the app store know.
I just want to prevent my app from going live w/ squished screenshots.
Cheers!
You should be able to take your screenshots, rotate them 90 degrees, and upload them. Make sure the images are 480 wide by 320 tall, and you should be ok.
See this article for more info:
http://www.appsizematters.com/2010/06/appstore-screenshots-101/
or:
http://thesalon.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-to-submit-app-to-iphone-app-store.html
In particular, from the latter link,
Portrait Mode 320x460 Minimum; 320x480 Maximum - 72ppi, RGB, flattened, no trans, High quality jpg or TIFF image file format. Do not include the iPhone status bar.
Landscape Mode 480x300 Minimum; 480x320 Maximum - 72ppi, RGB, flattened, no trans, High quality jpg or TIFF image file format. Do not include the iPhone status bar.
This can be quite a confusing issue because iTunesConnect will show a landscape-oriented iPhone screenshot in landscape orientation, but when you view it from the iPhone app store application, the screenshots will be forced to portrait orientation.
A look at the iTunesConnect Developer Guide, page 13 provides some insight on Apple's reasoning:
To view a landscape mode screenshot on the device App Store, users will have to rotate their iPhone to view landscape.
So when viewing screenshots on the actual device, iPhones and iPod Touches switch any landscape-mode screenshots to portrait mode and the user must rotate their phone to landscape mode to see the screenshot correctly.
The good news is you can update your screenshots at any time. So do a little trial and error and you'll get it looking good.

splash (launch image) in landscape mode?

I am developing a game which works only in landscape mode. When I import a launch image (Default.png) into my xcode proj and run it, the image appears in portrait mode and then the view starts in landscape mode. How can I make my splash/launch image be displayed in landscape mode only?
First thing is no one is gonna know from outside the application that application is gonna run in portrait or landscape.
If at all you still want to view the splash screen in landscape mode you have to design the image in such a way as we cannot change the behaviour of the splash screen.
Instead of designing the image as 320X480, design it as 480X320 and your problem will get solved.
hAPPY cODING...
Always create 320x480 and 640x960 sized pictures. Just name them Default.png and Default#2x.png. As Michael Kessler notes, to have them appear in landscape, you have to rotate the graphics in your gfx editor.
I quote Apple docs as they look as of now:
iPhone and iPod touch
Portrait 320 x 480 pixels, 640 x 960 pixels (#2x)
Landscape Not supported
iPad
Portrait 768 x 1004 pixels, 1536 x 2008 pixels (#2x)
Landscape 1024 x 748 pixels, 2048 x 1496 pixels (#2x)
http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/DOCUMENTATION/iPhone/Conceptual/iPhoneOSProgrammingGuide/App-RelatedResources/App-RelatedResources.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40007072-CH6-SW12
So you can see that landscape orientation of images are not supported for iPhone/iPod.
