I have a simple angular application that works just fine when deployed on my local JBoss instance, but when I deploy the same war file in our sandboxed environment (also JBoss) the application doesn't load. Just shows up as a blank page. When viewed on Chrome or FF it works fine as well.
Not a lot to go on, but any pointers in the right direction would be very helpful.
Edit: Just another piece of info, it doesn't work locally on IE either when the address contains the computer name and not localhost. So http://localhost:8080/angularapp works but http://[machinename]:8080/angularapp does not.
In the post you don't make completely clear in what environments you've the problem (it's clear it doesn't work using IE, but does it work in all cases with Chrome and FF?).
But the problem you're experiencing when trying to access using the machine name (http://machinename:8080/...), may be caused because you've not defined properly the IP bindings in the JBoss startup: by default JBoss binds only to localhost (127.0.0.1), if you want JBoss to be accessed from any other network interface, you've to define it. That can be done using the -b parameter of the startup script (run.sh for Jboss 3.x/4.x/5.x/6.x or standalone.sh if it's JBoss 7). For example:
./run.sh -b xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your server IP) will make the JBoss accessible only from that IP (and its corresponding machine name, provided is correctly defined in the DNS or /etc/hosts ...), but not from localhost.
./run.sh -b 0.0.0.0 will make the JBoss accessible from all the networks interfaces of your server.

I'm having trouble trying to side-load an add-in in MS Word, getting the error
'ADD-IN ERROR: A problem occured while trying to reach this add-in.' The add-in needs to be hosted on a local docker environment to be integrated in the rest of a web aplication.
Setup
The add-in files are hosted on a local docker machine, accessible through both an ip-address and a https://dev.local address. The add-in is reachable through Internet Explorer and Edge Chromium without any certificate errors. It doesn't matter whether I try to reach the IP address of the locally mapped dev.local, the add-in refuses to load and just crashes. I'm on Word version 2002 build 12527.20194. Another word-addin that we host externally works fine.
What i've tried
I've been messing around with the settings in Internet Explorer (moving the sites to local zone, trusted zone, enabling and disabling the protection there).
I've upgraded Edge to edge Chromium. I've tried to use the Preview of
Edge Developer Tools, but that crashes when the error occurs.
I've tried using Fiddler and activate the runtime logging, but can't get more information on what's going wrong.
I've used the Yoman validation on the manifest.xml and everything checks out.
I've also enabled loopback through CheckNetIsolation LoopbackExempt -a -n="microsoft.win32webviewhost_cw5n1h2txyewy"
I'm pretty much at a loss now: what can I do to get more information on what's crashing the add-in?
OK so I managed to finally get this to work, leaving this here for anyone who might run into the same issues.
Because the local sideloading did work, I figured we needed to emulate the localhost situation with the docker. So I instructed the virtual machine to forward localhost:3000 to the Docker Toolbox port 443. I also copied over the SSL certificates generated by Yoman in <userhome>/.office-addin-dev-certs to the Nginx docker and instructed Nginx to use those SSL certificates for port 443.
I'm not entirely sure if adapting all of the other settings (such as enabling the loopback interface and using the about:flags page to always allow https on localhost are also neccesary, maybe just emulating the webserver on localhost is enough. Hope this helps someone!
I have just started using Parallels for Mac, and am attempting to debug a locally running web application on my host MacOS machine.
I have figured out that I can connect to the my host via 10.211.55.2 in the browser in my virtual windows machine.
What I'd like to do is to instead connect via localhost and have this routed through to the 10.211.55.2 ip instead.
I tried editing my windows hosts file with an 10.211.55.2 localhost entry but this made no difference.
Is this possible to do?
localhost is hardcoded in many libraries. In theory it should be possible, but it would break a lot of things, including not being able to boot up the system. Connections to localhost are used frequently for interprocess communication throughout the system, so there's more to it then you using it for testing websites. Just go with another name.
I have configured jetty-maven-plugin in my eclipse Mars and I can run the server using jetty start and stop goals. I can able to access the website using http://localhost:8080/myapp but not using local IP address(i.e., http://192.168.0.5:8080/myapp) from my own computer or other computers connected in the same network via LAN and Wi-Fi.

I configured the server host to 0.0.0.0 from localhost to listen on all hosts. With this setting I can see on server start log,
INFO:oejs.AbstractConnector:Started SelectChannelConnector#0.0.0.0:8080
and it works only on http://localhost:8080 but it's not accessible from http://192.168.0.5:8080.
I also tried running that if the interface is accessible using the Networks Interface Listing as mentioned in this comment. and I got,

I also tried turning off my Windows Firewall/antivirus but din't help. My jetty version is <jetty.version>9.3.0.M1</jetty.version> and JDK 1.7. What could be the problem? Any help is appreciated.
McAfee Endpoint Security was the culprit here. It was blocking the requests with IP addresses from my very own computer. Turned off the firewall inside the Antivirus and I was able to access the site with http://192.168.0.5:8080/mysite from the browser and other devices connected through the network.
Sometimes some other program opens your port on external address before you do that with Jetty. It will receive all traffic instead. On Windows you will not know it if you reuse port (that is Jetty's default behavior). Check with netstat -ano what is the IP of the process that is indeed listening on 0.0.0.0:8080. Verify if it is your Jetty process only.
Then try connecting with telnet or netcat and see if you can open the connection and what is the response.
On beforehand I have to say i'm a bit of a newbie.
I've sucscribed to a VPS with Ubuntu 11.04 server, I installed Jboss and am starting it with the -b 0.0.0.0 option.
Now if I lookup the address ip:8080 on a browser on the VPS itself it's working fine, but if I try to look it up on a browser on an external machine it isn't able to access the page.
I tried to modify the hosts file but without success. Maybe its the iptables? Or something else?

Take the static IP of the server, ping that from your command line tool with ping. If you are successful in pinging the server you are all set. Now go to the browser of the external pc and type the static ip and give the port as 8080. It will certainly work.
Some good suggestion from my side is, try PaaS(platform as a service) now as that is much easier than VPS and you will get up and running in minutes. Try Jelastic. It has got JBoss hosting. Deploy your WAR file there and you can access it immediately. Ket me know if you really go ahead and use it.

I created a test JBOSS web service and there is only one test method in it. I access this using http://localhost:8070/MyWebService/MyRESTApplication
and it shows the result from the web service. I tried this in both Eclipse and Browser and it works.
But when i want to access this web service using IP address of my system then it shows ERROR message that Page cannot be displayed (in fact browser is not able to find this web service).
I want to access like this http://IPaddress:8070/MyWebService/MyRESTApplication
what should i do so that i can access it using my IP from some computer
You have to start JBoss using :
./run.sh -b [your_IPaddress]
On windows:
start run.bat -b 0.0.0.0
This will tell it to start and bind to all network interfaces. You can also replace 0.0.0.0 with your actual IP if you only want it to bind to that network interface.
I find it easier for debugging to have it come up on all network interfaces because this will work when you are running a virtual machine to debug something like Internet Explorer.
Open your server setting in Eclipse and set Host name as your IP address or 0.0.0.0
