Osmosis not working with mapfilewriter plugin - openstreetmap

I've recently downloaded Osmosis to convert .osm.pbf files to .map files. I'm using Windows 7 for this application. I've downloaded the latest zip file from their system and placed the mapfilewriter jar files into the /lib/default/ folder. However, I keep receiving this error when I run this statement in the .bat file:
osmosis --read-pbf file=taiwanlatest.osm.pbf --mapfile-writer file=helloworld.map

I've read up and it seems that this occurs due to the osmosis itself, and that I have to use a lower version's osmosis. I've tried to use Osmosis version 0.40 and I've gotten this error when I run the .bat file:
Error: Could not find or load main class org.codehaus.classworlds.Launcher
Where exactly did I go wrong?

After much trial and error, I finally made it work by downloading Osmosis version 0.40.1 here.
In addition, I've added 4 jar files in the /lib/default folder:
mapsforge-map-writer-0.3.0-jar-with-dependencies.jar
mapsforge-map-0.3.0-jar-with-dependencies.jar
trove-3.0.3.zip
jts-1.8.jar
After which, i created a new conf file named "osmosis-plugins.conf" and added a line " org.mapsforge.map.writer.osmosis.MapFileWriterPluginLoader" in it.
After doing these steps, Osmosis finally works (though I'm not sure if this is the most correct way of doing it).
However, I still don't really understand why the latest version of Osmosis does not work.
Hope this can help those who faced a similar problem as me!

Bumped into this problem as well and here's my solution to it:
Download the mapsforge-map-writer jar file (the one with
dependencies) from https://search.maven.org/search?q=mapsforge-map
Put the downloaded jar file into my osmosis/lib/default directory
Open up cmd, cd to where my osmosis is located and run a --mapfile-writer command.
Hope this helps!

Error when using OSMOSIS to extract data from OpenStreetMap data

I am trying to replicate the example in this page. I downloaded the data and run this code (the example data of that page can be downloaded from here):
osmosis --rbf sample_osmosis.osm.pbf --nkv keyValueList="amenity.school" --wx schools.osm
I am using Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon and installed osmosis by using Sypantic (version 0.47).
I downloaded the example in the previous page and run the previous code in the folder containing the .pbf file.
However, I am getting this error:
osmosis --rbf sample_osmosis.osm.pbf --nkv keyValueList="amenity.school" --wx schools.osm

Any idea what might be happening?
I just ran with success your exact command with the Osmosis Version 0.48.3 using your example data (osmosis --rbf sample_osmosis.osm.pbf --nkv keyValueList="amenity.school" --wx school.osm): INFOS: Total execution time: 439 milliseconds.
My Osmosis version is possibly different from yours, but the sample_osmosis.osm.pbf file possibly evolved too.
FYI I encountered on 2022-07-20 the same error message ("GRAVE: Thread for task 1-rbf failed") using the latest GeoFabrik OSM data from https://download.geofabrik.de/europe/monaco-220719.osm.pbf with a basic Osmosis command: osmosis --read-pbf file=monaco-latest.osm.pbf --write-xml file=monaco-latest.osm. After analysis and exchange with the GeoFabrik support, it was related to a bug that has been fixed the day after.
Waiting for a format fix, a good workaround has been to "clean" the pbf with osmconvert: osmconvert" monaco-latest.osm.pbf>monaco-new.osm.pbf --out-pbf

Any help or suggession on this problem...

Consider the following 2 suggestions:
1)As I commented above check if more then one application is running on the same server. This could be the primary reason.May be 3 or 4 applications might be running once you start your tomcat service.
2)May be some library that you are using for your application is creating some problem, for example the library might be initializing some file storage or may be something else. For this you will have to debug and check your stacktraces.

Simple Tomcat Servlet not loaded in Eclipse

I've been following the Servlet and JSP development with Eclipse WTP from vogella.com. I've installed Tomcat 7, copy-pasted the code (a simple Data Access Object and a simple HpptServlet), and started the server from eclipse.
When I open http://localhost:8080/de.vogella.wtp.filecounter/FileCounter in the web, the expected result is:
But I got a 404 error:
And this error log in the console:

Relevant information:
Tomcat runs OK from the command line (catalina run).
There is only one instance of Tomcat running at the same time.
I could not get any other Tomcat servlet to run from Eclipse.
Any idea why isn't tomcat running my simple Servlet?
Update: I'm using OSX
I suspect you are running tomcat using an own user - it's a common practice in unix systems - and that that user does not have read privilege to your home directory /Users/adamatan.
Then you could try to add the tomcat user to you the group your user belongs to.
Better yet try to change the server location as described in this so question to a location where eclipse has write access and the tomcat user has read access.
EDIT
Actually its a setting in the Dynamic Web Project wizard, If you choose Dynamic web module version 3.0 (which is default) or higher on the first page then on the last page the checkbox for Generate web.xml deployment descriptor is disabled by default. If you choose 2.5 or lower it is then enabled by default. It has nothing to do with which tomcat you are actually using. If you want to use annotations though, then you have to have tomcat 7 with servlet specs 3.0
It was a Tomcat 6 tutorial, and I was using Tomcat 7.
Eclipse did not create a web.xml file, because it was expecting annotations in the Java code. The tutorial code did not contain any annotations, so the server started without servlets.

java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 7.0\logs\localhost_access_log.2012-07-12.txt (Access is denied)

I'm trying to test my servlet by running it on Tomcat. However, I get the above error (sometimes this error occurs, but earlier the servlet was running fine). A few facts:
I've looked thoroughly at the explanations given by this similar problem, as well as in here, and here
When I attempt to restart Tomcat (from within Eclipse's "Servers" tab), I get some error log from the console:
"SEVERE: Failed to open access log file [~\Tomcat 7.0\logs\localhost_access_log.2012-07-12.txt]" and at the very end of the log output, there's "INFO: SessionListener: sessionDestroyed('E9A6117FDF54752D80A1B9B72F2B83D3') -- see more info at the bottom of this text
I've looked at my log files at " C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 7.0\logs" and there is not file with contents similar to the ones in item (2) above
I 'deploy' my application through Eclipse (that is, during development, I depend on Eclipse to start Tomcat), only doing a real deployment when I have a stable version of my project by copying the appropriate java class files into Tomcat's /webapps/WEB-INF/classes folder and restarting Tomcat
and most importantly,
5. Typing in "http://localhost:8080" leads me to the Tomcat homepage (so I'm pretty sure the server is running), whereas "http://localhost:8080/MyProjectName/MyServlet" in the browser leads to the error shown this question's title.
Any ideas/help?
Thank you very much!

Stop right there: you should never put any files into webapps/WEB-INF and expect anything good to come of it. Deploy your webapp properly, using a well-accepted packaging such as a WAR file or an exploded-WAR structure into the webapps directory.
Second, the problem is obvious: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 7.0\logs\localhost_access_log.2012-07-12.txt (Access is denied). Your Tomcat can't write to that file. Just because you are an admin doesn't mean that Tomcat can write to that directory: Tomcat doesn't play well with UAC as far as I know and you are trying to write to Program Files which generally requires some ugly UI credentials-entry hack.
So, check your file (and directory) permissions. Check the uid of the Tomcat process: make sure they are all good. Finally, consider using CATALINA_HOME and CATALINA_BASE (read the documentation for how to do that) to fix all of your permissions issues.

How do I run a web application using SpringSource Toolsuite?

I'd like to run my Spring application using STS, but I have no idea how to do that. I see the tc server instance, and I can run it, but this does not start my application. I've tried dragging my project workspace onto it, but that hasn't worked either. I've right-clicked and read/checked out all of the options on the context-sensitive menu, but I don't see anything to run my project inside tc server. Does anyone know how?
EDIT:
This is what I get when running the project. I see nothing about my project's war at all. It is included as a "web module" when I check out the tc server settings though. And it does have a web.xml and all of that other good stuff. The project works fine in maven's tomcat goal and inside IDEA. I am just having problems getting it to run in eclipse.

If you are missing the Run As > Run on Server option, then chances are your project does not have the Dynamic Web Module facet.
I was running into 404 errors in my J2ee project, created using Dynamic WebModules. Initially I thought it was a context problem, as the url that STS was attempting to run was quite wrong. However the project the context was correct. But needed to get rid of the errors shown in the markers tab (which may not stop attempts to run as Server) before I made any progress.
After resolving obvious code, jar, path errors, I then check if I can export a war file correctly. If not, it is usually an issue in the DEPLOYMENT ASSEMBLY portion of the projects properties (at least in my Java project). Specifying the class files and jars from required projects is needed to get the correct war file structure. Once accomplished, bye bye 404s
