I have installed postgresql 9.2.4 on my machine with Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. Based on this documentation page (http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.2/static/pgtestfsync.html), it seems *pg_test_fsync* contrib module is part of postgresql 9.2.4 . But when I checked *pg_available_extensions* system view and also the following location on my system /usr/share/postgresql/9.2/extension, I could not find this module. It seems to be missing even in the contrib documentation here (http://packages.debian.org/experimental/postgresql-contrib-9.2).
Am I missing something? Could anyone guide me on how can I test 'pg_test_fsync' on postgresql 9.2.4 ?

The manual page you link to is for a command-line tool, not a function which runs inside the database itself, so will not show up when interrogating system views for available extensions.
Although the Debian package description doesn't mention it, the list of files included does. The list includes both /usr/lib/postgresql/9.2/bin/pg_test_fsync and /usr/share/postgresql/9.2/man/man1/pg_test_fsync.1.gz, so once that package is installed, you should be able to type man pg_test_fsync to confirm the options supported.

I have an auditing and slowly changing dimensions (SCD) use case that requires the installation of the PostgreSQL temporal_tables and cyanaudit extensions.
However my PostgreSQL server is on Windows and after searching high and low, I still haven't found a way to install these extensions in PostgreSQL for Windows.
Has anyone succeeded in installing these extensions in the Windows environment and can you please share your methodology?

I have not tried to install these extensions on Windows but I suggest you have a look on the related source code repositories.
temporal_tables is stored on GitHub: if you search in open and closed issues about Windows installation, I have found: https://github.com/arkhipov/temporal_tables/issues/19.
cyanaudit is stored on bitbucket and I have not found anything related to Windows.
However installation should be easier because it is mainly SQL and PL/PGSQL code: you need to be able to use tar and perl because the installer is using Perl.
The Linux machine I use has SuSE 12.1 with Postgres 9.4 installed (as root). I was able to compile and install the PostGIS 2.5 extension in a user area. Under this installation, I see, among other things, contrib folder, some sql files and .so files etc.
I can launch Postgres using my personal user. How can I let Postgres know to refer to this directory where all the PostGIS extension related files/objects are available?
When I try creating the extension, I get the following error:
ERROR: could not open extension control file "/usr/share/postgresql94/extension/postgis.control": No such file or directory
Of course, some error is expected as Postgres doesn't know about my PostGIS installation. But the latter does not have such a file, postgis.control.
I am guessing the solution is to ensure Postgres can see the .so files (may be set LD_LIBRARY_PATH?) or create a postgis.control file with all the relevant details etc.
Any assistance including simply pointing to documentation will be appreciated.
I see a few similar questions but no one seems to address my issue of the extension - PostGIS - in a separate directory. They assume root access.
Like every extension, PostGIS has to be installed in the PostgreSQL extension subdirectory (under share).
When PostGIS is configured, it looks for pg_config on the PATH, or you can explicitly specify the --with-pgconfig option to configure.
Once you have built PostGIS, make install will automatically put all files in the proper place.
You are not very specific how you built PostGIS, but you must have strayed from the correct path somewhere. If you share some details, we might be able to figure out what went wrong.
Re-reading your question I get the impression that you installed PostGIS somewhere outside the PostgreSQL software directory because you lack the necessary root privilege. That simply won't work, and there is no workaround.
You'd have to install PostgreSQL somewhere where you have write access.
I'm trying to configure freeradius 3.0.11 with postgresql but I'm having an issue with the driver listed in the sql file inside of 'mods-enabled.' The driver I am listing is 'rlm_sql_postgresql.'
When I run 'radiusd -X' I get the error:
Could not link driver rlm_sql_postgresql: dlopen(/usr/local/Cellar/freeradius-
server/3.0.11/lib/rlm_sql_postgresql.dylib, 6): image not found
Make sure it (and all its dependent libraries!) are in the search path of your system's ld
/usr/local/Cellar/freeradius-server/3.0.11/etc/raddb/mods-enabled/sql[20]: Instantiation failed for module "sql"
When I look in the folder 3.0.11/lib there is indeed no such file called rlm_sql_postgresql.dylib.
Any ideas on this? Should I be generating this file somehow?
It means when configure was run for freeradius, it didn't pick up libpq.
Apparently brew install postgresql will pull down libpq and its development headers.
Remove freeradius, install postgresql, install freeradius with brew install --build-from-source freeradius-server
It should (unless the homebrew people have gone out of their way to break things), install the postgresql driver.
I am trying to get work PostgresSQL with PHP, but i stuck on that apache error:
Call to undefined function pg_connect().
When i run phpinfo() i cannot see that my module is loaded, but i do not know why. The pgsql.ini files were loaded. And when i open them, i can see, that the extension is enabled extension=pgsql.so. Under /usr/lib64/php5/extensions there is the .so file. Even the permission are same like the other modules.
Any idea what am I doing wrong?
It would help if you could describe what operating system you are using. I'm assume Linux, but which distribution? One package that is often forgotten when installing postgresql and php is php5-pgsql. This is the connection between the two. For some reason I cannot explain, it is best if all three are installed together. So I suggest uninstalling postgresql and php and then installing postgresql, php5 and php5-pgsql. I hope this works for you!
I found it out. Some libraries where not found.
1.) First of all run php -version
2.) If there is an error where it described that some libraries are missing, you can solve it like me
3.) Search for the files on your system find / -name {LIBRARY NAME}
3a.) If you found them, just create a symlink to /usr/lib64

I am getting a bunch of compile errors when I try to install the MySQL DBD::mysql Perl library. I am trying to install this library on OpenSuse linux (SUSE Linux Enterprise server 10 (x86_64) version 10, patch level 4)
The install fails when trying to compile dbdimp.h. There are hundreds of complile errors but I have reason to believe they all stem from the first 3:
dbdimp.h:23:49: error: mysql.h: No such file or directory
dbdimp.h:24:45: error: mysqld_error.h: No such file or directory
dbdimp.h:26:49: error: errmsg.h: No such file or directory
I believe that the reason I am getting the errors above is that I have no MySql Client installed. I do not know how to install mysql client (I believe I am supposed to get some version of libmysqlclient).
I am brand new to opensuse and vaguely familar with installing packages on Linux in general have used yum, yast, apt-get on ubuntu + centOS previously but the only package manager tools that seem to be on OpenSuse 10 are rpm and zypper. I have not managed to install the required mysql client using either of these. If anyone knows how to install MySql Client to resolve my issue I would greatly appreciate any recomendations

You need to install MySQL or the MySQL client libraries, either through your system's package manager or by following the installation instructions from the source code.
It sounds like your question is really "How do I install MySQL on OpenSuse", which would be more appropriate for one of the other StackExchange sites.
I was able to resolve this to a point. In my original question, I stated that I had tried using YAST but that it had not worked. In fact, I did not fully explore the YAST install option but when I did, I managed to download install the required librarys by following an article I found (http://adminramble.com/install-mysql-yast/#chitika_close_button)
I was able to open the YAST GUI in the terminal window (not an X-window display) and navigate through the "software management" section wherein I was able to do a search for MySql. Amoung the search results were mysql client libraries, which I then selected and hit "Accept". The installation started and completed successully.
In order to complile the PERL DBD::mysql module, I had to create a new makefile with the ccflags specified so that the header files could be found:
perl Makefile.PL --cflags -I/usr/include/mysql
I say "to a point" at the top of this comment because I then ran into further problems compiling but my original issue posted has been partially resolved and getting this far may help someone else who is experiencing the same problem. Will update if I get a solution to the compile problem.
