I have a web application that uses Vaadin and I have forms with Vaadin TextField's. If you enter Chinese characters into the textfield they appear not to be handled properly by Vaadin. In the debugger when storing "(String)usernameField.getValue()" I see the Chinese characters are not understood. This happens in an English Windows and in a Simplified Chinese Windows 7 VM (for the web client, the server is in an English Windows PC). Is this a limitation of Vaadin or do I need to call special methods in the TextField class or configure it somehow. I have not seen any clues in the TextField API.
See my last comment. Vaadin works properly with Unicode characters. Must make sure the debugger font and the database also do.

When I am adding filipino language code "fil" in portal-ext.properties file and restart the server I am getting an error that "Filipino language code is not available for 2 char".
I think it's because of filipino language code is in ISO-3 language code.
I am not aware whether liferay supports iso-3 language code or not.
Please suggest me how to overcome this situation.
The language codes are not specific to Liferay but to JAVA. Liferay uses the standard Locale functionality of JAVA to identify languages.
Try to google for the Java locale for your desired language and use that value. Something like en_GB, sk_SK...

You can also invent your own lang code. I once added Welsh into the portal with cy_GB and all worked fine.
Also, note that you need to take care of the flags for the provided languages. The config UI will look quite unusable without them. See here How to add language icons in liferay DXP
I have installed the latested version of sugarcrm and installed it suite crm theme. Every thing worked fine(in terms of design). Then, I installed russian langauge pack. Language was applied correctly except global controll links. I cleared caches(both browser and sugarcrm). If i enter crm(for example using English language) and logged out and enter using russian language, the global controll links are in English language(while all other elements in russian language). If I clear crm and browser from caches and enter the system(In reverse language order), Global controll links in Russian language while all other elements in english language. I suppose the error associted with caches and sesson. But, I do not know how to solve the issue. Please, help me. Where i need to change in order system work with a new them?
I found answer to the issue. I think that the problem was associted with ajaxheader. Therefore, I disabled them from admin->system settings->settings of ajax
A quick question regarding Angular Forms and Japanese characters. Am using Angular 1.2.17, and modern Chrome web browser on Mac OSX (latest).
Am writing an AngularJS application for Japanese market. Everything works great displaying Kana etc on the HTML pages etc. There are no issues with the web server, or Database etc, UTF8 support is throughout the application.
However, for the AngularJS forms, it does not read the Kanji / Hiragana / Katakana unless the word or sentence starts with latin character. Angular $scope appears to be unable to distinguish the fact that the JP characters have been typed at all unless prefixed with a latin character.
Example:
こにちわ does NOT register when typed into the input field, and hence form validation fails because it will think a required field is empty.
Whereas:
adsfこにちわ does register and the form can be submitted successfully. End to end, the JP characters are handled correctly, and get stored into DB correctly. So Angular / JS is parsing the UTF8 text correctly. The issue is likely something to do with how Angular binds to the data ($scope) when only JP characters are provided. It doesn't handle this properly by default.
Does anyone know of any HTML or Angular configuration etc - required Angular module or params, meta tags etc etc, that would coerce the Form to behave properly. Have not tested, but am pretty certain this issue is not specific to JP characters - it is likely anyone working with a non latin alphabet might have experienced the same behaviour.
Must be missing something obvious here.

But if anyone should come across a similar problem then please check for any REGEX declarations in the Form fields. For instance, a ng-pattern="/^[a-zA-Z]/"
Yes, this will do what it says, and exclude Kanji. Surprisingly it does NOT then put helpful validation error on the form field so from UI perspective it appears that the foreign language characters simply weren't registered.
Visual editors such as kupu and tinymce don't allow you to type when used on an iphone. In Plone HTML view still works but the user will have to know html syntax. Is there any better work around?
Problem here is that most modern mobile phones (with a few exceptions) do support web browsing with a limited functionality only. Functionality that is necessary in order to use kupu and tinymce. Plone HTML is a good approach. You might have a very simplified html element description on that page or linked with the very few elements a user needs.
Plone supports plain text and restructured text (same as Sphinx docs) in rich text input also.
This is enabled for the default Page content type, though the option has been hidden in the latest Plone versions I think.
What you would need to do is to write a plug-in which monkey-patches rich text field to force the input to to be plain text/restructured text on mobile browsers.
Web and Mobile provides some facilities for this, to see whether a HTTP request is from a mobile user agent (mobile.sniffer package)

I'm attempting to do the same thing on my DroidX with Plone 4.0.5. I've tried the default Browser, Dolphin, Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, Firefox 4, and Firefox 5. So far Rich Text fields do not work in the default Browser, Dolphin, Opera Mini, Opera Mobile. I got close in Firefox 4 and 5 as I could enter text but just not "see" it properly. However, Firefox 4 and 5 are buggy and locked up when I attempted to use them.
The way I got around this problem was to turn off javascript in your mobile browser and then when you edit your content use either Plain Text, Markdown, or type in the raw HTML into the place where the Rich Text field is supposed to be. I could successfully enter text this way in the default Android Browser and Dolphin.
I am using Inscript Keyboard to directly type into TinyMCE. However when I click on save, all the characters appear as question marks on website and even in article list on admin side.
How I should solve the problem?
I am specifically talking about Marathi but the problem-solution might be same for all Devnagrari fonts.
