Crystal Reports and Adding values - crystal-reports

I am using Crystal Reports XI and I'm trying to add a particular column if one column or another column is set to one.
Here is the current preview:
Username (GROUP 1)
MONTH (GROUP 2)
DATE SUBJECT TOTAL_TIME
End of group 2
End of group 1
Now I want to add the values in total_time if one of the two hidden fields contain 1 (true).
I tried using sum() function but it didn't work as it added all the times together.
I'm still new to Crystal Reports and I tried searching on google but nothing came up similar to what I need.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One alternative that I can suggest, You can use Parameter fields on your report.
Do the calculation on Code behind and set the calculated sum to parameter field on Page_Load event of Crystal Report page.
This parameter field will be used to display the sum on report page.
Please check this link to see
-How to create Parameter Fields:
http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/en/CrystalReports_dotNET_SDK/crsdk_net_doc/doc/crsdk_net_doc/html/crtsktutorialscrvparametersdiscretecreatingreport.htm
-How to set values in Parameter Fields:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa289936(v=vs.71).aspx

Your best option will be use "Running totals" by this way you can control the flow by keeping a condition to sum when the required column is 1.

Did you think about small trick? You wrote: I want to add the values in totaltime if one of the two hidden fields contain 1 (true).
Under these circumstances you can calculate helper field Total_Time_Conditional using formula:
Total_Time_Conditional = IIf(HiddenField1 = 1 or HiddenField2 = 1, 1, 0) * Total_Time.
This will multiply Total_Time
by 1, if any of hidden fields is 1
by 0, if both hidden fields are 0
Calculating Sum(Total_Time_Conditional) will give you expected result.

jasper report show count on footer of a specific query

am very new to jasper report
also I have tried looking at videos but can not seem to get this one concept
basically there is this main query which i have
select * from table
which is populated in the details area
however i want a second query
select count(*) from table where name = "tim"
and put the count on the footer
can this be done using jasper
any tutorial to this concept or guidance would be helpful
to sum up the details area should show all the data where as the footer should only show counts of a few things.
You can only have one DataSet (therefore query) for the report. In your case this is your main report select * from table, which seems to be working well.
You have two options for adding the information you want:
(and I would say the better option) is to add a variable $V{tim_count} which is configured as:
initial value 0
expression value "tim".equals($F{name}) ? 1 : 0"
calculation function sum
there are multiple ways to increment this variable, so I'll leave that with you. In the footer you would then add a text field with the $V{tim_count} variable as it's contents.
You can read about variables here https://community.jaspersoft.com/wiki/variables
You can add an object that has it's own DataSet:
Table
List
Subreport
You would then be able to add your query to that object and display it appropriately. As you can see, displaying a COUNT is not really the most appropriate way to do this.
Note - I don't suggest this way

calculating the percentage based on the number of records in the crystal reports

In my crystal reports I have a field called "PAYMENT" it has to be displayed according to the following requirement
REQUIREMENT
if there is only one RECORD in detail section then it has to display,
PAYMENT=percentage
if there are MULTIPLE RECORDS in detail section then it has to display,
PAYMENT=percentage+(percentage(total value)+remarks)
can anyone please tell me how to do this?
You can use the following formula in CR to count the records
CountRecords
Count ({Table.PAYMENT})
PaymentDisplay
Then create another formula with your decision making:
If COUNT FORMULA = 1 then DISPLAY OPTION 1 else DISPLAY OPTION 2
I have not tested this but it should work.

How to get the COUNT of rows in Crystal Report

I have a data in database which gives me 8 rows based on date range out of which 5 are HCT, is there any formula in crystal report where I can get that count of those 'Abbr' ?
I am comparing HCT text from Dynamic report selection, I need to know can we create a variable which gives us count of 'Abbr'.
like for
HCT should return 5
US should return 2
RN should return 1 value.
UPDATE 1:
Here is what I am trying to do. I have secondary selection criteria as Dynamic report along with date range.
in the above example I have selected only "HCT", now even though sql data is returning 8 rows (HCT,US,RN) I need only the HCT count i.e. 5.
If I select "HCT" and "US" in the secondary criteria then I should get count of both HCT and US i.e. 5 + 2 = 7.
if I am not selecting anything then it should return 0, so irrespective of the data from DB, the value should be summed based on selection of my criteria.
am I clear enough?
Use Running Totals.
Specifically, make a Distinct Count running total for each Date Range code. You can set a formula in the Running Total Wizard to only evaluate records where, for example, {DateRange} = "HCT"
I found the solution for my question, I am just putting it here so that someone may help for the above mentioned formula.
This is what I did
Created a Formula(not running totals) by name SumOfSkills
if({Command.GlobalSkillAbbr} in {?GlobalSkill}) then 1 else 0
here Command.GlobalSkillAbbr is my "HCT" and '{?GlobalSkill} will contain all Global skills.
and used another formuala to sum it up.
Sum(SumOfSkills)
which gives me desired output.

Crystal Report: Get Minimum Date

I have this concern using Crystal Report which I am not really familiar with. Here's my scenario:
I have an existing report to update, I need to add a column (ETA) which has a datetime value. It may return more than one rows per Item No, I need to get the minimum date only per Item No from the result rows.
I already tried some solution mentioned here http://scn.sap.com/thread/1952829 but found no luck.
I used a suppression formula for the Details section of the report, but haven't succeeded yet.
IF {TableName.DateField} = Minimum({TableName.DateField}) THEN FALSE ELSE TRUE
Any possible things you can suggest me to try? Thanks in advance for this :)
good to get this value from sqlserver side. you just create a function which return a single data (minimum date).
If you wish in crystal report side, it is something you make loop of hundred for a single row display. You can use running total field for this.
Select the field , select summary type and put into the detail section.
or you can create a formula with group name option like
Minimum({TableName.DateField})

please check
Running total field gives options for Min, Max, etc. but not Sum

Using LIKE in Multi-Value Parameter in Crystal Reports 2011

I am developing a report in Crystal Reports 2011 that has 3 sub-reports pulling data from 3 different databases. I have a Multi-Value Parameter (String) in the main report that passes the input values to the 3 sub-reports which have the same Multi-Value String Parameter.
Sample Input Values are:
P000000030,
P000000930,
P000001730
The user does not want to input the leading alpha character and preceeding zeroes. They want to input the following:
30,
930,
1730
The sub-report pulls all of the records successfully if the user puts the entire string value in with the following Record Selection Criteria, but it does not work with the partial strings input:
{Command.Puchase Order} in {?Pm-?Reference}
Can anyone advise the syntax needed to pull the data in the subreport with the substrings as inputs?
Thanks in advance!
Thank you for your input guys!! I took a bit from everyone and came up with the following solution:
Create a column in the datasource that trimmed out the desired value --> ltrim(regexp_replace(a."po_num",'P',''),'0') as "Puchase Order2"
Modified my Record Selection Criteria to select for either column --> {Command.Puchase Order} in {?Pm-?Reference} or {Command.Puchase Order2} in {?Pm-?Reference}
I really appreciate your input! I am able to deliver the desired solution with your aid.
go ahead and create a formula that calculate the length of your parameter(len({?Pm-?Reference})) and place it suppressed on your report header. Then put below in your record selection formula
right({Command.Puchase Order},{your length formula}) in [{?Pm-?Reference}]
You could add the "number only" version of [Puchase Order] to your datasource...
cast(cast(right([Puchase Order], len([Puchase Order]) - 1) as int) as varchar(9))
as [Puchase Order Number]
...then use that in the select expert. I'm getting the number without the leading P, casting to int to remove the leading zeros, and then back to a varchar for the string comparison in Crystal.
You could do the same with a formula in Crystal reports. Then reference that formula in the select expert. Downside is having to repeat that in all 3 sub reports.
