erl does not autocomplete code loaded using -pa - autocomplete

This is my first couple of hours of Erlang experimentation. So be gentle, please.
I checked out a project (https://github.com/wooga/eredis)
Installed rebar
Compiled the modules (beam files went into ebin)
Fired up erl -pa ./ebin
Typed eredi - and hit tab
At this point nothing was displayed, whereas all other modules were auto-completed. So I (reasonably) assumed that the module beam files hadn't been loaded - lead me to all sorts of fruitless investigations of paths, etc.
But the code had been loaded, it just wasn't being auto-completed.

Great, but I'd really like auto-complete to work. Is there a way to get it working? In Zsh for example, I have to execute rehash for new path items to show up - do I need to execute something similar here?

You need to make sure the module is loaded in the shell, adding it to the path with -pa just tells the VM where to look for modules when trying to load them.
There are several ways of loading a module
Call a function in the module that should be loaded (so after doing the eredis:start_link() call you would be able to tab-complete eredis)
Explicitly load the module with l(Module)
Programmatically: code:load_file(Module)
Load all erlang modules in path is very useful!

Eclipse doesn't resolve types

I am using Eclipse Juno CDT for a class I am taking, but it is telling me it can't resolve types found in include files, and these aren't headers I wrote.
The program I wrote compiles and runs exactly as it should if I run it through g++ via the command line. The problem is that I can't debug in Eclipse because it doesn't recognize even basic types like string. Also, no code completion. It finds the include files just fine, I can open those and look at the contents, but it still won't resolve types.
I've seen lots of suggestions for people with similar problems, but those all turned out to be not finding the include files, which isn't my problem. Any suggestions?
Maybe the types are in a namespace and you're not qualifying them (and not using a using declaration).
You likely have included the proper directory for the headers themselves. On my system it is: /usr/include/c++/4.4.6/
However, you probably don't have the directory containing the definition of the macro _GLIBCXX_BEGIN_NAMESPACE. Without this macro definition eclipse does not know that the stl types are in the std namespace. On my system this macro definition is squirreled away beneath the main c++ dir. Try adding the following paths to your include list:
/usr/include/c++/4.4.6/x86_64-redhat-linux
/usr/include/c++/4.4.6/x86_64-redhat-linux/bits
If you're not on redhat look for something similar. You can go to /usr/include and run the following grep to look for the headers with the necessary macro definition:
grep -R -P "define\\s*_GLIBCXX_BEGIN_NAMESPACE\(" .

run pydev project from file-system (with imports from different packages)

I want to run my working pydev project python code by double clicking the main module (outside of eclipse): xxx.py
The problem is that due to my imports being in different packages:
from src.apackage.amodule import obj
when xxx.py is double clicked it complains it doesn't know where the imports are (even though when I run xxx.py in pydev it magically knows what I'm importing).
A simple workaround is to remove all of the packages and move all of the modules into one directory (that obviously works but is very inconvenient)
How can I run my code in the file system without doing that work around?

Bottom line is always execute your code from the top, highest level, root directory (e.g. using a minimal main.py file that executes the main script of your program). Then, use absolute imports always and you never have a missing module issue since you start the program from the top directory and all imports are based off that 'home' path.
The problem you encountered is the natural behavior of most languages. A programm only knows about its working path (the path it is started in), the paths which are registered in the environment variables and at least relative paths.
The "magic" of the executable you created is therefore: It collects all scripts/modules needed, and copies/combines them next to/in the executable. The Executable then runs within the directory where all other scripts also reside and voila ...
If you are not happy with your workaround of creating an executable every time you want to run your project without PyDev there are two alternatives.
First but not the one I would suggest is registering the working path into in the environment variables.
Second and the one I think is much better: Create a link to the python executable and alter the calling string of the textfield "Target:". Append the path to your script you would like to run. Then alter the textfield "Start in:" and enter the project directory. After you did this you should be able to start your project with a simple double click.
(If you rely on external libraries which are neither on the path nor in you project you could search for appending paths temporarily to the pythonpath via the sys module.)

emacs custom C++ compilation support

I use a wrapper around make to compile C++ code within a project.
For example, the project Foo is laid out as follows:
Foo/
Foo/src/...
Foo/lib_1/..
Foo/lib_2/...
etc
where lib_1, lib_2 are library dependencies of Foo. The src directory has a single
make file which I run on the command line.
Is there a way to teach emacs to always run that file when I do M-x compile? And understand how
to jump to an error in some other file buffer (or open a new buffer for a file) depending on
what the error is on running make (g++) ?
Edit: I guess what I am asking for is project support and support within the project to run a specific custom make file, where errors point to files within the project that emacs can navigate to.
See the variable compile-command. This is what M-x compile defaults to, so you can set it to run the makefile you want. E.g.
cd /your/root/dir ; make
Also see the command recompile if you don't want to always press enter. It's also worth it to bind it to some key.

is there a coffeescript auto compile / file watcher for windows?

I'd like to play around with integrating coffeescript into my dev process. But as I see it, I'll have to make a bat file that iterates a set of coffee files and spits out js files. Every time I write a bat file, useful as they may be, I ask myself: is there a better way?
Which makes me wonder: is there an app of some sort for Windows that will watch a directory or a file and spit out one/many js files when a coffee file is saved? I'm thinking of building one but don't want to reinvent the wheel. I looked around and found things that were similar but nothing that elevated it beyond "run this command line" on Windows.
Edit: already marked an answer, but looking at this 10 months later the answer is: grunt. Because it'll do a lot more than just auto-compile your coffeescript and you'll probably need to do more than just that to get your app going.
coffee --watch -o lib -c src
where src is a directory containing your coffee files, and lib is your JavaScript output directory.

I was hunting for the same thing the other day and came across this: https://github.com/danenania/CoffeePy
It's a simple python script that uses PyV8 to run coffee-script.js.
It doesn't do anything fancy, just watches a folder recursively, and compiles any .coffee files whenever they're changed. It doesn't even have a bare option. These things could be very easily added though!

Mindscape Workbench has a built in compiler/editor for VS 2010. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it'd be even better than a watcher/compiler. Scott Hanselman has a post about it here:

I think there is a simplier way just using -w option of coffeescript compiler
coffee -c -w *.coffee
This will compile all coffee files under the folder you are (put more file pathes if needed) each time you change one.
Another possibility: WebStorm 6. They've added a built in file-watcher for a variety of next-gen languages like SASS and Coffescript.

If you include the coffeescript compiler on your page, you can include files with a "text/coffeescript" type and they will get compiled client-side.
Word of warning: Obviously, client-side compilation is not for something serious, but its completely fine for a small project/quick development. It would then be trivial to compile them on the server and change the MIME-type and filename when something a bit quicker is necessary.
CoffeeScript-dotnet does what you want, but it is a command line tool.
Command line tool for compiling CoffeeScript. Includes a file system watcher to automatically recompile CoffeeScripts when they change. Roughly equivalent to the coffee-script node package for linux / mac.
Here is the best way to do it:
Say your work is in "my-project-path" folder.
Go to the parent folder of "my-project-path"
Start a terminal and type coffee -o my-project-path -cw my-project-path
This line will watch and compile anything name as "*.coffee" in "my-project-path" folder, even if it is in "my-project-path/scripts/core" or "my-project-path/test/core".The js file will locate in the save folder as the .coffee file.

How do I build project files and packages for Borland C++ Builder 5 from the command line?

How do I build Borland C++ project files (bpr) and package files (bpk) from the command line? Project groups (bpg) are apparently make files and can be compile with make. But bpks and bprs are xml based and the Export to Makefile won't compile with make.
If I put a project in a bpg, make can't seem to find any of the files specified in the bpg since they all appear to be relative references. I changed the references to absolutes and make reports:
Fatal: Unable to open makefile
You don't need to directly compile a bpr. Just create a bpk which just includes that single bpr, and you can use make to compile it.
"c:\program files\borland\cbuilder5\bin\make" -B -s -fabc.bpg
If you also have other borland compilers installed, do not call the make.exe from the other compiler.
EDIT: execute the make command in the directory where the bpg and bpr is located.
Using bpr2mak and make works for me just fine, so as Roger said, you need to give details on what errors you're getting. BPK files can also be processed with bpr2mak. I'm using this method to compile a large project with many components, without difficulties.
Perhaps you could give some more information on 'won't compile'.
I.e. What error messages are you getting.
