Editing hidden files in Netbeans - netbeans

I currently have hidden files displaying in netbeans 7.3.1. I can even open the files and make changes but when I try to save I get an (Access is Denied) message.
Just to check I tried opening the same file in notepad, attempted the same thing and the save was successful.
I assume it has to do with a permission issue between netbeans and the file on my windows system.
I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1
I cannot just run netbeans as administrator.
I can't seem to find anything online about this, every link that comes up has to do with simply displaying hidden files in netbeans which I have done already.

The files I downloaded began with a . (.header.html, etc) which I know usually means hidden. In order to proceed my work I manually removed the dot assuming it would allow me to edit the files. It did not, so I went ahead and checked the file properties and apparently it was still considered hidden. I then unchecked hidden and saved and was able to edit the files in netbeans perfectly fine. I wanted to see if I can keep the . and have the hidden field unchecked and it works perfectly fine.
I know the . signifying hidden is more or less linux specific, but in every version of windows I've used it seemed like the . had the same effect. What happened was I copied these files from an older computer (windows xp) so the file must have retained the flag but in windows 7 the . has no influence. I just checked to confirm by creating a file .test.html and the hidden flag was not triggered.
Hope this helps someone in the future.

You can try to remove the hidden file privilege from the files that you want to edit. In the menu bar click organize from there select folder and layout options. Now You will see a lot of options click the ones that say to display hidden files.

TYPO3 - Error 500 in right panel of Filelist

Friend gave me access to TYPO3 CMS of his page to make some changes and I can not open Filelist.
The left panel with directories is displaying but on the right, a have error 500 message in IE or in Chrome just empty frame.
I did some modifications to that page some time ago and everything was working fine then.
Can anyone help me with that ?
If a folder contains to much files you might get problems opening it in the file list module, as the gathering of all information and maybe creating of preview thumbnails may take longer than is granted to any php process.
If it's only the preview images you might be able to load the folder after some attempts, as sometime all preview images are generated, but as it also can be other delays because of too much files you need to enhace the runtimelimit
or/and you might need to restructure the files and folders.
Be aware that a moving of files with FTP/SSH might break content in the FE as you might invalidate some FAL (sys_file) records so that used files are not found any more. Better: enhance the timeout (temporarily) and move the files in the backend.
in general: if you only got a blank page you disabled all error-messages (which is ok for FE, but will leave you without hint about errors).
As a first start you could take a look in the webserver-error-log.
If you got no clues: enable errormessages in TYPO3 Install Tool (enable debug mode in "Configuration presets")
Ok.
I solved that.
I disabled that extension and then when I looked at maintenance tab on this extension i saw something like "delete LOCAL installation of this ext".
After deleting local installation and enabling system FileList instance, everything is working just fine :)
Thank You for help.

Is drag-and-drop to open a file possible in VSCode?

I am wondering if something is wrong with my computer (or myself), because I can't seem to drag & drop a file into Visual Studio Code to open it in the editor. Closing an opened folder first doesn't make a difference. VSCode always shows me the 'stop sign', in every spot I tried (the editor, the opened tab bar, an existing opened file, ...).
Why does VSCode block this ?
(I have experienced this in earlier versions as well. Currently on v1.6 on Windows 7.)
Searching for a solution, I stumbled on this page, where one commenter explains:
I think you are running into the security issue where lower permission processes cannot send messages to higher permission processes. Explorere.exe, running at normal permission levels, cannot send the window message to winword.exe, running elevated.
I am indeed always running VSCode as Administrator, but not my Explorer windows.
When I run VSCode in non-administrator mode (so just my regular user), drag-and-drop works fine.
I feel silly as I lost 15 minutes looking into this. In case it helps:
Make sure you are not trying to open files from a zip file...
Cheers.

Checked out clearcase file but can't check in

Using RAD 8.5/ClearCase 7.x, I checked out many files. I made my changes and was able to check many of the files back in (using the GUI RAD interface). However I'm unable to check in many other files by right-clicking on them in Eclipse. When I do right-click on them, the check-in & out options are disabled but the 'Add to source control' is enabled - RAD/CC react like these files are not in source control, but they've been controlled for many years. I am able to do a 'Find checkouts' (using RAD) and it lists those files. If I start up CC Explorer and check those files in my view, they show as 'View-private file'.
I've tried deleting one of these files via CC Explorer and then try to "re-add" it via the RAD GUI but I still get a generic error at that point that doesn't tell me anything.
How do I at a minimum get these files back in a state that I can check them out?
After working w/ our inhouse CC support staff, we've gone the route of them going in and undoing the check outs of the remaining files and then creating a new view. Then delete the "bad" view from my RAD workspace (as well as from the VOB) and import the new view. Because of additional CC plugin issues, we're also uninstalling RAD, WAS, and Clearcase to reinstall them. So this current situation is now closed.
I was facing the same issue in clear case view, this may not be the proper answer as I am not doing through eclipse, but it may help others. Solution was
Go to version tree of the file, right click on the checked-out node and there check in option was enabled.

Eclipse Ctrl+Shift+R not showing all files in the project

When i press Ctrl+Shift+R to open the Open Resource Dialog box, the filter box does not show most of the other resource files for example.. jsp, xml etc. it works fine with all the java files.. This is happening for only this particular java project. i have refreshed the project multiple times but still no-go. I have also rebuilt the index for eclipse under workspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.jdt.core by deleting the index files but to no avail.
I am using eclipse Kepler version. Any help would be great..
Thanks All. Yes i had closed and opened the project many times. I have also not set any Resource filter exclusions. What i noticed was that opening any of these files for edit would set off an alert saying file was derived and would i like to edit? But on the properties for these file they were not ticked as derived but rather as Archived. So had to manually hunt for the parent folder which was making these files as derived. Also noticed that the Open Resource Dialog box has option for including Resource files "Show Derived Resources"...
This one helped me solve the problem
Eclipse treating all the files in a project as Derived
This is going to sound ridiculous...but maybe this'll help others too: make sure your file search string is correct! You may need to begin it with a wildcard (*).
I lost about 45 minutes on this as the result of user error.
I was looking for some local files named eRCaGuy_PPM_Writer.h and eRCaGuy_PPM_Writer.cpp (from my repo here). So, I pressed Ctrl + Shift + R and searched for ppm_writer, as shown here:
Nothing! It would not find those files! No matter what I did to the files it couldn't seem to find them. I tried all sorts of things. Then, I realized Eclipse doesn't have a fancy fuzzy search like Sublime Text 3, so I simply added an asterisk (*) to the front of the search, and voila! It works perfectly. Since the "PPM_Writer" part of those two file names is NOT at the beginning, I must start the search with a wildcard (*).
Now it works fine, as you can see here:
I've just added a note about this to my personal Eclipse setup and configuration instructions here: https://github.com/ElectricRCAircraftGuy/eRCaGuy_dotfiles/tree/master/eclipse (for my full documentation, see also the PDF and Google Drive links at the top of that page).

Creating a file type with new icon

I have a text based file i have given an extension named .val i have also changed its icon by selecting Computer>Open tools>Open folder options>
however though this changes the icon for the extension it only changes it on my computer, I would like to know how I can do this for all machines. even if that means building somthing that needs to be installed, which is fine with me
I wrote a little program awhile ago. The windows registry thing is a mess. Save yourself a lot of time and use this installer package - it has a wizard that will create an install script for you. Navigate to your program, icon, etc. Pretty easy.
http://hmne.sourceforge.net/
As I recall, in windows icons are set based on what program is opening it, so indirectly the file type. So first you have to create reg entries for your application on your computer. Then you have to associate that file type with your extension. And then the extension gets the icon from your app settings. This of course is different in WinXP vs. Win7. Thus why I think you should avoid a lot of headache and use an installer.
