Suppress navigation push animation in a custom view controller transition - iphone

I'm using the new custom view controller transitions introduced in iOS 7 in combination with a UINavigationController. I implemented
-navigationController:animationControllerForOperation:fromViewController:toViewController:
in my UINavigationControllerDelegate, implemented the UIViewControllerAnimatedTransitioning protocol and the custom transition works beautifully.
However I'd like to prevent the shift animation in the navigation bar when pushing the view controller. Interestingly, the pop animation is fine and the navigation items are just alpha-faded instead of shifted. But the push animation shifts the navigation items from the right.
I found a partial solution by replacing -pushViewController:animated: with -setViewControllers:animated: and adding the new view controller to the viewControllers array. This does the correct alpha fading animation - EXCEPT for the very first time the view controller is pushed on the stack. Subsequent pops/pushes are fine.
Any idea how to achieve this effect? Calendar.app and Photos.app also implement this, so it should be possible (though it might be a specific behavior when using collection views).

I've written a workaround that removes all position animations from navigation bar subviews:

How to fade out the status bar while not hiding it

iOS Developers will surely knows about the issue about status bar and the famous "slide/hamburger/drawer". The issue is well explained here: http://uxmag.com/articles/adapting-ui-to-ios-7-the-side-menu
I'm using MMDrawerController library and it has a nice hack that lets us to create a dummy status bar just above the container view controller. Unfortunately this doesn't work really good. What's the news? The news is that I stumbled upon an app (Tinder) that perfectly solve this mind blowing issue. I've created a gif that perfectly shows what Tinder does.
You need to wait a few seconds for seeing the gif because there's a bug in it and I don't know how to get rid of. Just wait one/two seconds and you will able to see the gif correctly.
Anyway, what Tinder does? When the user taps on the top left menu button and begin to swipe right the status bar fades out neatly. And when the view is revert to the original position the status bar will show up again.
I am both happy and a bit sad for this because this means that a way must be to do it but I really don't know how to implement it (perhaps hacking MMDrawerController). Any help will be so much appreciated.
IMPORTANT
Please pay attention to the fact that the method setStatusBarHidden: will completely hide the status bar, this means that the entire view is with a height -20px. This is obviously not the solution because as you can see from the gif the view is not stretched.
Your main problem is with MMDrawerController. If you'll digg into it you'll find a lot of methods statusbar related such as setShowsStatusBarBackgroundView setStatusBarViewBackgroundColor and more. Something in their code pushes the view up when the statusbar is hidden.
Alternatively you can use another drawer controller or use custom code.
Here's a simple way how to accomplishe this:

Adding a NavigationBar:
UINavigationController will alter the height of its UINavigationBar to
either 44 points or 64 points, depending on a rather strange and
undocumented set of constraints. If the UINavigationController detects
that the top of its view’s frame is visually contiguous with its
UIWindow’s top, then it draws its navigation bar with a height of 64
points. If its view’s top is not contiguous with the UIWindow’s top
(even if off by only one point), then it draws its navigation bar in
the “traditional” way with a height of 44 points. This logic is
performed by UINavigationController even if it is several children
down inside the view controller hierarchy of your application. There
is no way to prevent this behavior.

You could very simply subclass UINavigationController and create your own navbar to avoid this annoyness.
i don't know if it will sove your problem but i got almost the same effect using the SWRevealViewController project. In the appDelegate I've set the delegate method from this class to do this:

centerY is a category in the UIView which sets the center.y without dealing the boring part of setting frame variables.

Check out the method setStatusBarHidden:withAnimation: on UIApplication. It will allow you to show or hide the status bar and the animation can be none, fade, or slide. You just need to add a call to hide the bar and one to show the bar at the correct times and decide if you like the fade as you illustrated or if the slide works better for you.

You can used -setStatusBarHidden:withAnimation: if you adjust your views frame in -viewDidAppear:, then you will not see any stretch.
Note that autolayout is disabled.

Set show/hide for master view enable in UISplitViewController for only one view controller in landscape mode

My App's Root view controller is UISplitViewController.
Master and Detail view controllers are two navigation controllers.
What I want is, when a particular view controller gets visible in master view, I need master view to be hidden and show-able by swipe gesture.
When I implement delegate methods and set presentWithGesture to yes before setting the root view controller, it works as its normal behavior for all the view controllers coming on navigation stack. But I need it only for for one view controller. Please share any idea you have.
I previously accomplished this by triggering a rotation event and implementing the "shouldHideViewController" delegate method. The biggest issue with doing it that way is that it rarely looks good. Sometimes it appears to animate, while others it just hurries off the screen. I wrote the below functions and placed them in my appdelegate to handle hiding/showing the master. It hides with a nice animation and has worked nicely for me so far (note: this is an edit of my preliminary response to this question).

Now you have a pattern that will hide the master view with animation and can be called by any viewcontroller. This example is for an app that is locked in landscape, but supports both landscape rotations (FYI), you could update the pattern to work in portrait with a few conditionals. This also allows a minimalistic approach to this functionality. I have looked at MGSplitviewcontroller before, and while it's wonderful, I don't need all the functionality it provides. I also don't like having dependencies that are dependent on others to update when I don't need most of what they do.
Edit 12/10 - Added iOS8 support to this answer. In iOS7, the xy coords for the splitview's frame were reversed. In iOS8 they are as you would expect. So we now need to take this into account. The frame is also unchanged on rotation in iOS8, so we only update on rotation in iOS < 8.0.

How to have tabBar animate in after the view is fully pushed into view?

I am trying to emulate the way TweetBot/NetBot animates the tabBar in after a push from the tableView of Accounts action. When the view is fully pushed, only then does the taBar animate in from the bottom. I have tried all sorts of hide/show methods and all seem to fail when it comes to the "show" part.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how this can be done?
First of all, I presume you are not using a UITabViewController since it cannot be pushed into a UINavigationController stack, so I think you are using a standalone UITabBar embedded in a UIViewController. Is this assumption right?

presentViewController needs to be dismissed with a slide while maintaing the view underneath

I got an gridview. Each cell within that grid is clickable. If a cell is clicked, another viewcontroller must be presented as a modal viewcontroller. The presentedviewcontroller must slide in fro the right to the left. After that, the modalviewcontroller can be dismissed with a slide. How do i achieve this? I got some images to show it :

The answer from Matthew pointed me in the right direction. What i needed was a UIPanGestureRecognizer. Because UISwipeGestureRecognizer only registers one single swipe and i needed the view to follow the users finger. I did the following to accomplish it :

If you want the presented view controller to slide in from the right to the left, it cannot be a modal view. #Juan suggested one way to achieve the right to left and swipe back, but it would result in the grid view being pushed out of the way by the new view. If you would like the new view to cover the grid view when it slides in, you will either need to accept the vertical slide of modal views or write your own code to slide the view in from the right -- the latter would not actually be all that difficult*.
As for the swipe to get back, the easiest way to do that from either a modally presented view or a view you animate in yourself is to use a UISwipeGestureRecognizer. You create the recognizer, tell it what direction of swipe to look for, and you tell it what method to call when the swipe occurs.
*The gist of this approach is to create a UIView, add it as a subview of the grid view, and give it the same frame as your grid view but an x-position equal to the width of the view, and then use the following code to make the view animate in from the right.

I believe what you need is the following:
Create another controller that is going to handle navigation between these two (ContentViewController for example). This controller should have a ScrollView with paging enabled.
Here is a simple tutorial if you don´t already know how to do this: click here
Once the cell is clicked you have to:
Create the new ViewController to be shown.
Enable paging and add this ViewController to the ContentViewController
Force paging to this newly created ViewController
Additionally you have to add some logic so that when the user swipes to change back to the first page, paging is disabled until a new cell is clicked to repeat the process.

UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal flips Vertically in Landscape

When in landscape, transitioning from one view (that's part of a Navigation Controller stack) to another as a modal view, with UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal set as the modalTransitionStyle, the view flips vertically in landscape mode.
Everything else about the look of the views is fine after the animation, though I did notice that the frame size of the views isn't changing which is causing issues in other places of my code as well. I figured if I fix whatever is making this particular flip vertical instead of horizontal, it will fix the other issue.
I assume it has something to do with the window itself not changing orientation, but I'm not sure that's it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Talked to an Apple Engineer at WWDC and figured out the UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal does not work in landscape, it will flip what looks like in vertical.
The other issue I mentioned was because I wasn't adapting a frame to the view correctly.
There is a solution for this if you use iOS7 custom view controller transition. The ViewController which initiates the transition should confirm to protocols an implement the following methods.
