I'm using GWT and Resty for my web app.
I need to treat two exceptions as special cases and pass additional information to the client. These previously were handled by the Resty calls onFailure() method, as follows:

I was wondering if there is a way to catch an exception/throwable when producing a kafka message via the Kafka Template.
I don't see anything where it would throw a KafkaException if something fails. I need to find out if the message was committed to Kafka before I can continue with my application flow. I know the ListenableFuture would log a failure but I don't know how to capture that onFailure.

There is nothing wrong if you just do Future.get(). When an exception happens downstream, it is going to be thrown to you from this blocking get().
I'm use the #FeignClient and want to do some logic(like record the exception information) when Feign throw Exception and then reply the result to front end.
I noticed Feign will throw FeignException when connection fail or http status not expect.
So I defined a #ExceptionHandler to caught FeignException after the callback method was invoked.

I have never done this in fallback, I have implemented custom error decoder(“CustomFeignErrorDecoder”) class and extended feign.codec.ErrorDecoder, every time an error occurs it comes to this class.
In decode function throw a custom exception and catch it in the controller or service layer to show your message to the frontend.
Example:

I am currently using gwt-resty and jersey for the server side. The problem I have run into is how do I map an exception for the MethodCallback implementation. I have created an ExceptionMapper which converts the exception to json and returns it in json format but the onFailure method is giving me the generic error message for my exception, "Failed BAD Request"
The question is how do I convert the exception into something that gwt-resty can process the exception in order to get the message from the server side exception.

I am not sure I understood your question but I think that you can parse Throwable e to get your exception in case of failure.
You can also intercept your exception by coding a restyGWT dispatcher and treat it before entering the onFailure().
I have an MVC 2 app that I want all requests to return json. I have overridden a HandleErrorAttribute and an AuthorizeAttribute. My goal is that all errors (even 403 and 404) are returned as json.
Here is my error handler. ExceptionModel is a simple class defining any error returned by my application. The Exception handler is a class that translates the error details into a formatted e-mail and sends it to me.

This all works great for most errors, but it is missing one thing. I have a controller action like this.

This happens on a GET, which is to be expected as default behavior. However, how can I handle for this condition so that I could instead return json like this

GWT only handles unchecked exceptions so you can throw Runtime Exceptions
or write your own Exception that extends from Runtime Exception then it will not cause any compile time problem
void f() throws NullPointerException // will not cause any problem because it is Runtime exception so unchecked
void f() throws IllegalAccessException // it is checked exception so there will be problem at compile time
