I need to know can I use PowerShell to burn ISO file on windows XP without any other addition software like MagicISO or others? I mean .NET framework is on top of Windows XP.
So if it is possible, then I need to know which commands allows me to do such a job?
Especially I need a command, not a whole script.
It appears this link: Burning and Erasing CD/DVD/Blu-ray Media with C# and IMAPI2 has sample code. It also has a link to the Update required to use this API on XP. Overall, it appears that a SHIM is required and it's all done using a an interop library whose source is included at the referenced link.

Hi I'm wondering if it's possible to create application installers for MSI's. What I want it to do is when I run an MSI I want to be able to run it in it's own process so I can reference it via it's process ID so I can send various keys to it so it installs the way I want it too.
I can code in both C and Java but for the Sys Admins would be good if I could code it in Powershell for them. Also I've seen other installers that can detect when the next instance of the install screen appears so it immediately send the new command keys, well appears that way.
Any advice is welcomed.
MSI's traditionally allow for admins to provide an answer file or arguments using msiexec.

You can then use PowerShell to call the exe's by using the 3rd party Windows Installer PowerShell Module

If you need to send keystrokes to the msi gui; you could look in to the Windows Automation Snapin for PowerShell. I have never used this personally.
I am looking for a CLI tool that will list all of the DLL files referenced in the Import section of a Windows executable file. Back in the day, Windows shipped with a GUI tool called QuickView that provided this information. However, I need a CLI-based application that will provide this information and preferrably a free / open-source application if possible.
IIRC, dumpbin tool from Microsoft could help. It is shipped with Microsoft Visual C++. The details are in MSDN.
Try dumpbin /IMPORTS <pe_file_to_analyze>.
I guess, the tool is not open source, however. But if it is included in Microsoft Visual C++ Express (not sure about that), you can get it for free.
After asking this question and doing some searching, I concluded that the easiest way to get a program like this was to write one. So I did.
The end result was a program named PEImportList (released under the MIT license). It does nothing more than open a PE executable (x86 only at the moment) and read the import data, printing a list of DLL names to the console.

Simply invoke the program by passing the executable as a parameter. If you want only the DLL names printed, then stick the -l option in front of the executable parameter.
Okay, I am trying to write an installer that installs multiple programs. The installer needs to be able to either get the files from a web server, or be able to package the files into a single installer file.
The end result I am looking for is a user hits a webpage, they can click a link to download a single installer file and the installer goes ahead and installs each of the programs. Quiet installations would be preferable but not absolutely necessary. I am trying to make this as user friendly and idiot proof as possible.
Grabbing the installers for each program from a web server would be preferable so it always grabs the latest version and I will not have to tweak the installer script each time the programs are updated.
I have looked into NSIS and MSI, and neither seem to be able to do what I need. I have entertained the idea of using Java Web Start to run a Java program that can install everything, but I am not sure the plausibility of that. If that is possible, then the user would not even need to run a file the Java Web Start would just take care of everything.

If not, there are two possible solutions:
You can try using a MSI wrapper which installs the applications as prerequisites or through custom actions. It's dirty and complicated, but MSI is a standard.
You can write your own application which handles the installers. This is most likely the best approach.
Do PowerShell scripts run under Mono?
I would like to run them on a Mac.
There is an open source version of PowerShell called Pash designed for Mono. It is not complete, but may be able to do what you need:

Powershell has now been open-sourced and is available here.
As of right now it is V6.0 alpha. I've been running it on OS X for a lot of file operations and it has been working very well.
Note that you may need to install .Net Core to get Powershell to behave properly. Also note that system.management.automation.runspaces works right out of the box (for runspacepools).
The powershell.exe stub is actually a native win32 program, not a managed assembly. It may be possible in the future to host the System.Management.Automation assembly in Mono, but I'm fairly sure it doesn't work at the moment.
I want to run some system commands (to fix things) before running an executable. I have a reasonably locked down (work) Windows XP system and so can't change what a shortcut points to. For my users' convenience, I must keep the same shortcut. However, I am able to swap out the .exe (renaming) and potentially replace it with another .exe (of the same name) which runs my system commands and then runs the original .exe.
What would be the easiest and quickest language/compiler to do this in? Previously, I've done this sort of thing in C (and tried it today in Python using py2exe without much success). Preferably free solutions.
