Which selenium IDE command should I use to execute a javascript statement - selenium-ide

I am trying to set a dropdown value using javascript in selenium IDE, but not able to figure out which selenium command to use.

Selenium IDE command to execute a javascript statement: runScript with the javascript statement as argument.
Example (can be run on Google startpage):
<tr>
<td>runScript</td>
<td>document.getElementById('searchText').setAttribute("value", "hello");</td>
<td></td>
</tr>

You can run a script (like above) and set the option you want to "selected".
You can also do it with the selenium select command:
Command: select
Target: id="yourDropDownId"
Value: label="yourOption"
or html source
<tr>
<td>select</td>
<td>id="yourDropDownId"</td>
<td>label="yourOption"</td>
</tr>

Assuming the dropdown has id myDropdown and the value you want to select is valueToSelect, try this:
selenium.select("//select[#id='myDropdown']", "label=valueToSelect");

How to execute an InDesign extendscript from command line?

I need to execute a .jsx script for InDesign from command line (Windows).
For Illustrator, it works easily with the following command:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64 Bit)\Support Files\Contents\Windows\Illustrator.exe" "...\myscript.jsx"
Both applications Illustrator and ExtendScript Toolkit CS6 open then the script is automatically launched.
When I try the same for InDesign, it doesn't work (InDesign says 'Unable to open myscript.jsx ...').
I also tried to launch ExtendScript Toolkit from command line as below:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Utilities - CS6\ExtendScript Toolkit CS6\ExtendScript Toolkit.exe" "...\myscript.jsx"
The result is ExtendScript Toolkit application is opened with the script loaded, but nothing is executed.
Does anyone know how to launch the script? Is there a -run or -cmd argument to add?
For me on Osx it works like this:
/Applications/Adobe\ ExtendScript\ Toolkit\ CC/ExtendScript\ Toolkit.app/Contents/MacOS/ExtendScript\ Toolkit -run test.jsx
On Windows it should be:
"\path\to\ExtendScript Toolkit.exe" -run test.jsx
content of test.jsx:
//#target indesign
alert(app.name);
It needs the -run flag. When using -cmd it still executes the script but from ESTK. The //#target indesign gets ignored. With the -run the script gets passed to InDesign. Unfortunately the ESTK brings up a dialogue that warns to execute scripts from untrusted sources.
a solution of yours could be to call a visualbasic script from command line. That VB would then call the indesign jsx file based on having referenced teh indesign application itself. Kind of tricky but should definitively work.
If you are trying to execute using node, these are the best two ways I have found to execute Indesign scripts.

Credit rendertom inside his vscode/atom plugins.
const outputFilePath = path.resolve(os.homedir(), 'Documents', 'Adobe Scripts', 'myscript.js');
const hostCommand = {
darwin: {
command: 'osascript',
args: [
'-e',
`tell application id "com.adobe.indesign" to do script "${outputFilePath}" language javascript`
],
options: {}
},
win32: {
command: 'powershell',
args: [
'-command',
`"$app = new-object -comobject InDesign.Application; $app.DoScript('${outputFilePath}', 1246973031)"`
],
options: {shell: true} // Windows requires a shell
}
};
if (typeof hostCommand[process.platform] == 'undefined') {
throw new Error('This platform is not supported');
}
const {command, args, options} = hostCommand[process.platform];
const p = spawn(command, args, options);
I don't have Windows at hand to actually test it but I would start by looking at those links:
Run VBS in command line : http://ss64.com/vb/cscript.html
Run InDesign in VB:https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwjj9_3JoPXMAhVI1BoKHUKMBT8QFggfMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.adobe.com%2Fcontent%2Fdam%2FAdobe%2Fen%2Fdevnet%2Findesign%2Fsdk%2Fcs6%2Fscripting%2FInDesign_ScriptingGuide_VB.pdf&usg=AFQjCNFP8M8i3xrOqLp0zw3BGcNpnyhEXQ&sig2=pfFYnsgxXDpCf1A573JTDQ&bvm=bv.122676328,d.d2s
Look at the DoScript method for calling a JSX script.
myInDesign.DoScript myJavaScript,
Without ExtendScript Toolkit and on a Mac, you can use AppleScript or JavaScript for Automation (JXA).
This is how it's done in the jasminejsx library to execute jasmine specs in ExtendScript.
osascript -l "JavaScript" -e "var app = new Application('com.adobe.indesign'); app.doScript('$EXTENDSCRIPT', {language: 'javascript'});" &

Selenium IDE: Include test script to new test script

We google to find the solution but could not succeed, how do we add already recorded script into new script.
There is an extension for Selenium-Core: "include", which can add the content of another test to the current test.
Here is it's page on OpenQA wiki: http://wiki.openqa.org/display/SEL/include, but unfortunately at the moment it is not accessible.
I used to use it in the past but eventually gave it up in a favor of ROLLUP RULES.
But if you are looking for a way to reuse a script in several test cases I would strongly recommend you use Rollup Rules. That is very powerful and underestimated by a lot of users feature of Selenium IDE.
Details of using Rollup Rules is written on a help page in Selenium IDE: menu Help - UI-Element Documentation, then search by keyword "Rollup".
I ended up using Rollups as suggested by Yevgen. It took me some time to find the proper way to implement this. The basic idea is you end up writing a JavaScript file that is added to Selenium IDE under options/options in the Selenium Core Extensions setting. The JavaScript file, which you need to write to build your "reusable command stack", will allow you to use the built-in rollup command with the target being set to the label you assign to a group of commands.
I wrote an article about Selenium IDE Includes AKA Rollups that may be a useful resource.
An example rollup script:
/**
* For use in Selenium IDE.
*
* You will need to add this to Selenium under Options / Options in the Selenium Menu.
* Put this under Selenium Core Extensions:
* ~/selenium-ide-for-slp/sideflow.js , ~/selenium-ide-for-slp/slp_rollups.js
*
*
*/
var manager = new RollupManager();
/**
* check_for_syntax_errors
*
* This rollup tests for php syntax errors, warnings, and notices.
*/
manager.addRollupRule({
name: 'check_for_syntax_errors',
description: 'Check for PHP syntax errors, notices, warnings.',
args: [],
commandMatchers: [],
getExpandedCommands: function(args) {
var commands = [];
commands.push({
command: 'assertNotText',
target: '//body',
value: '*Notice: Undefined*'
});
commands.push({
command: 'assertNotText',
target: '//body',
value: '**Notice: Trying to get*'
});
commands.push({
command: 'assertNotText',
target: '//body',
value: '*Notice: Use of*'
});
commands.push({
command: 'assertNotText',
target: '//body',
value: '*Fatal error:*'
});
return commands;
}
});
Hope that helps.

msdeploy via powershell and psake fails

So I'm trying to use powershell and psake for my build and deployment. I've tried without any success to call the following psake task.
Exec { msdeploy.exe "-verb:sync"
"-source:package="D:\path-to-package\zip-file-name.zip"
"-dest:auto,computername=http://my-server-name-here:8090/MsDeployAgentService2/" -setparam:Name="IIS Web Application Name,Value=iis-web-app-name-here" "-allowUntrusted" }
So in an effort to get things moving I removed the offending setparam:Name="IIS Web Application Name,Value=iis-web-app-name-here". It worked but took the IIS Web Application Name parameter from the ..SetParameters.xml as expected.
<setParameter name="IIS Web Application Name" value="Default Web Site/project.name_deploy" />
There's clearly something wrong with the syntax of setparam:Name="IIS Web Application Name,Value=iis-web-app-name-here" but I've tried a dozen (or more) variations including
-setparam:"IIS Web Application Name=iis-web-app-name-here" > omitting the name,value
-setparam:"IIS` Web` Application` Name=iis-web-app-name-here" > using back ticks
I really can't work out what I'm doing wrong and may have to resort back to using an msbuild file to get things moving.
The error I receive is : > all arguments must begin with -
I believe you need to quote the parameters as follows:
setparam:Name="IIS Web Application Name",Value="iis-web-app-name-here"
Note the additional quotes before the comma and after the equals sign following Value.

Running JUnit-Tests that uses SWT-Display fails on Jenkins

I a have a few JUnit-Tests that makes use of the current Display to instantiate a few controls (TreeViewer for instance). Locally that works fine, no problem. When I commit these tests and jenkins runs the test I get a failed test for each test that makes use of Display.
My unit test uses the display variable in this manner:
#Test
public void testUtils() {
Display display = Display.getCurrent();
Shell shell = new Shell(display, SWT.NONE);
// org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Composite composite = new
// org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Composite(
// shell, SWT.NONE);
TreeViewer viewer = new TreeViewer(shell, SWT.MULTI | SWT.H_SCROLL
| SWT.V_SCROLL);
The error log jenkins generates is:
Time elapsed: 0.13 sec <<< ERROR!

Is there any thing wrong with the way I am using Display in my tests? It works when executed on my local machine
The way you use Display looks OK to me. The error is likely related to the fact that your server is not running Gnome, hence SWT can't create a Display when you ask it to.
UPDATE
I just found a recent blog post, which explains what you need to do to run SWT UI tests on a headless server in more detail. Although the steps provided are meant for Hudson, they should be applicable to Jenkins as well.
It should all boil down to these two steps:
Check Run Xvnc during build (and don’t bother to check take screenshot, it doesn’t work)
Add an Execute shell build action before launching your tests with metacity –replace –sm-disable &
See the linked blog post for screenshots and more details.
You can try following two things,
execute command "xhost" or "xhost+" from your terminnal.
execute command "xhost" or "xhost+" from, jenkins terminal.

selenium tests aplication path problem test not run on selected url

I try to start my selenium test using command line but test are fired to http://mycomputer and not to http://mycomputer/myapplication
D:\projectsnet\Production\MyWebTests\tools\selenium-server>java -jar selenium-
server.jar -Dhttp.proxyHost=mycomputer -Dhttp.proxyport=4444 -htmlSuite "*firefox" "ht
tp://mycomputer/myapplication/" "D:\mypathtotestssuites\0001-testsuite.html" "c:\temp\result.html"
In test cases I have got link
<link rel="selenium.base" href="http://mycomputer/myapplication/" />
This is by design.
If you are doing development against http://mycomputer/myapplication/ then I would recommend that you do http://mycomputer as your baseURL and then add
open | /myapplication/
To the top of your tests.
