First clarify which version of Tomcat you are running. It's essentially important because configuration is sligthly different. I will describe it for Tomcat 7.
Define a new user in your tomcat-user.xml and assign it the privilege "manager-script". This user should have no other manager-...-Roles.
Open your pom.xml and change the configuration of your tomcat7-plugin. Change the url to http:// localhost:8080/manager/text. Keep in mind that you use the text-console and not the html-console.
Goto your settings.xml and check, that there is a server-configuration with the corresponding id that you use in your tomcat7-plugin-configuration.
for example:
<server>
<id>TomcatServer</id>
<username>scriptuser</username>
<password>mypassword</password>
</server>

I'm using Maven in Eclipse for a modular Java project, and have managed to make Maven use the Eclipse compiler following the answer to this question.
However, the Maven test-compile target fails with the error message
Failed to run the ecj compiler: Unrecognized option : --patch-module
which is quite surprising (actually unbelievable) because Eclipse is well up to patching modules.
Here's the pom.xml for a MVE, consisting of a modular project patchmodule:
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 https://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd">
<modelVersion>4.0.0</modelVersion>
<groupId>patchmodule</groupId>
<artifactId>patchmodule</artifactId>
<version>0.0.1-SNAPSHOT</version>
<build>
<plugins>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-dependency-plugin</artifactId>
</plugin>
<plugin>
<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
<version>3.10.1</version>
<configuration>
<compilerId>eclipse</compilerId>
<release>16</release>
<compilerArguments>
<properties>${project.basedir}/.settings/org.eclipse.jdt.core.prefs</properties>
</compilerArguments>
</configuration>
<dependencies>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.codehaus.plexus</groupId>
<artifactId>plexus-compiler-eclipse</artifactId>
<version>2.12.1</version>
</dependency>
<dependency>
<groupId>org.eclipse.jdt</groupId>
<artifactId>ecj</artifactId>
<version>3.31.0</version>
</dependency>
</dependencies>
</plugin>
</plugins>
</build>
</project>
The error kicks in as soon as you give the project a single test, such as
package patchmodule.test;
import static org.junit.jupiter.api.Assertions.*;
class Test {
#org.junit.jupiter.api.Test
void test() {
fail("Not yet implemented");
}
}
and then do a Maven install, or any target that will invoke testCompile.
Is this a bug (and if so, whose)? More importantly, is there a way to work around it? Any help is much appreciated.

Tried googling vaadin-chart-examples and chart-demos maven, repository, etc., but haven't found a solution. How can this be resolved?
[[edit]]
The project is imported from here:
https://github.com/vaadin/charts/tree/7a55e8dab5b9941a05603c2624a576866e86045d
Following these instructions:
https://github.com/vaadin/charts/blob/7a55e8dab5b9941a05603c2624a576866e86045d/DevInstructions.md
After install, couldn't compile widgets
The instructions are for Luna, I'm using Mars, not sure how that affects things.
Did you try adding this repository for Vaadin add-ons:
<repository>
<id>vaadin-addons</id>
<url>http://maven.vaadin.com/vaadin-addons</url>
</repository>
If you built just vaadin-charts-demo so far build vaadin-charts-parent before, as well.
The parent includes vaadin-charts-examples as <module>. So, if you don't build parent (or examples explicitely) at least once, none of the modules' artifacts is available in your Eclipse workspace and your local Maven repo to be resolved from there.
Remember, Aggregation and Inheritance are different types of POM Relationships.
For resolving dependencies from your Eclipse workspace see <Your Eclipse Maven project> → Properties → Maven → [✔] Resolve dependencies from Workspace projects.

Any idea how to get the deployment with maven works?
It looks maven does not know where to find the maven-vault-plugin. You will need to add the Adobe repository to your maven POM, see http://repo.adobe.com/.
That will cause the Unresolveable build extension: Plugin com.day.jcr.vault:maven-vault-
plugin:0.0.10 error and the Unknown packaging: content-package # line 12, column 16 errors.
Also, you still have some variable placeholders (<groupId><!-- {groupId} --></groupId>) from the tutorial left in your code that will need replacing. See the error:
[ERROR] 'dependencies.dependency.groupId' for :core:jar is missing. # line 18, column 22
In the <embeddeds> section of the vault plugin configuration, you can specify maven dependencies that you wish to include. An example of this can be seen in this Managing packages with Maven page.
If you don't want to include any external dependencies in your package right now, you could probably remove the<embeddeds> section altogether.
be sure that you have started CQ/AEM before building project. A lot of errors familiar with vault and maven arise because it.
I have a flex project that I need to convert into a maven project. I am using m2e for Eclipse and at the bottom of this post is the POM.xml file that I have created.
My issue is that I cannot seem to run a mvn clean install on this POM. In Eclipse there is an error highlighting the first "plugin" line that says:
-Plugin execution not covered by lifecycle configuration:
org.sonatype.flexmojos:flexmojos-maven-plugin:3.7.1:test-compile
(execution: default-test-compile, phase: test-compile)
and
-Plugin execution not covered by lifecycle configuration:
org.sonatype.flexmojos:flexmojos-maven-plugin:3.7.1:compile-swf
(execution: default-compile-swf, phase: compile)
Beyond that, if I do run the mvn clean install I get a different error:
Failed to execute goal org.sonatype.flexmojos:flexmojos-maven-plugin:
3.7.1:compile-swf (default-compile-swf) on project flex: Failure to find
com.adobe.flex.framework:framework:rb.swc:en_US:3.2.0.3958 in
nexusserver/nexus/content/groups/public was cached in the local repository,
resolution will not be reattempted until the update interval of nexus has
elapsed or updates are forced
I am looking at the nexus server and I see:
-com\adobe\flex\framework\framework\3.2.0.3958
Inside there are a bunch of zips and stuff, and the file: framework-3.2.0.3958.rb.swc
So I'm not sure what actually the problem is. I'm still a bit of a maven novice and I've never actually used flex before so I think I am just a little overwhelmed at the moment. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix at least one of the issues? Thank you for your time.
edit: Even worse, the file is located in my local repository so I have no idea why it isn't seeing it.

Then I build the project using maven command (clean install). I could see the generated war file in target folder. When try run this application on tomcat within eclipse (project->right click->run one server) tomcat starts with an error.

When I look into the Eclipse Folder from where tomcat runs the app (C:\Deepak\Study\Dev\Practicals\workspace.metadata.plugins\org.eclipse.wst.server.core\tmp0\wtpwebapps\accessloganalyzer-1.0-SNAPSHOT), I didn't find any dependencies (including commons-lang which is being referenced in the error) for the third party library wurfl.1.4.jar that I am using in my project.
wurfl library uses the following dependencies which are not present in WEB-INF/lib and hence causing the issue
commons-collections-3.2.1
commons-lang-2.6
jackson-core-asl-1.8.2
jackson-mapper-asl-1.8.2
logback-classic-0.9.28
logback-core-0.9.28
slf4j-api-1.6.1
Can any one please point what I missing why these transitive dependencies are not being copied in WEB-INF/lib folder in the application WAR file?
Install m2e wtp plugin. This plugin can be installed from the Eclipse Marketplace (Help -> Eclipse Marketplace...). That should get you most of the way there. You should then see your dependencies where you are expecting.
