UIMotionEffect not working when applied to view - iphone

iOS newb here but after some googling and tutorial watching I can't seem to figure out where I've messed up. I'll try to provide as much info as possible, I've code monkeyed some code for the UIMotionEffect in my UIViewController subclass (root controller). My storyboard contains a UIViewcontroller subclass (below) with a view that contains a UIImageView that is the IBOutlet in the code. Everything runs and my debugger hits the viewDidLoad: method but moving my phone around doesn't move the image at all. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks for reading.
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
CGFloat leftRightMin = -55.0f;
CGFloat leftRightMax = 55.0f;
UIInterpolatingMotionEffect *leftRight = [[UIInterpolatingMotionEffect alloc] initWithKeyPath:#"center.x" type:UIInterpolatingMotionEffectTypeTiltAlongHorizontalAxis];
leftRight.minimumRelativeValue = #(leftRightMin);
leftRight.maximumRelativeValue = #(leftRightMax);
UIMotionEffectGroup *moGroup = [[UIMotionEffectGroup alloc] init];
moGroup.motionEffects = #[leftRight];
[bgImageView addMotionEffect:moGroup];
}
In my header file for the same class...
#interface TabletMenuViewController : UIViewController
#property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIImageView *bgImageView;
#end

Ahah, per the release notes the parallax and some other similar features aren't available on the iPhone 4. Looks like my dev phone is too old and busted.

Autolayout makes ImageView in ScrollView unscrollable

So me and my buddy have been working on an app. We have an ImageView embedded inside a ScrollView. It worked on iOS 5, but now we are updating it to iOS 7. We now have to use autolayout to make it look the app look nice again. But this disables scrolling it. We've attempted for a while to add code that allows the image to be scrollable again but nothing has helped.
We've tried everything under the sun we could find dealing with viewDidLoad (where we were originally doing it for iOS 5) and viewDidAppear (What we added to conform to iOS 7 and better practicality standards). Any suggests would be appreciated, we've exhausted every attempt.
#property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIScrollView *Scroll;
#property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIImageView *Image;
...
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
// This is what we did for iOS 5
//self.Scroll.contentSize = self.Image.image.size;
//self.Image.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, self.Image.image.size.width, self.Image.image.size.height);
}
-(void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated
{
[super viewDidAppear:animated];
//One of the many NEW attempts for iOS 7
self.Scroll.contentSize = CGSizeMake(self.Image.image.size.width,self.Image.image.size.height);
}
You likely have your constraints assigned incorrectly.
I was able to get it to work with the constraints:
NSDictionary *bindings = #{#"imageView": self.Image};
[self.Scroll addConstraints:[NSLayoutConstraint constraintsWithVisualFormat:#"V:|[imageView]|" options:0 metrics:0 views:bindings]];
[self.myScrollView addConstraints:[NSLayoutConstraint constraintsWithVisualFormat:#"H:|[imageView]|" options:0 metrics:0 views:bindings]];

Adding NSObject to view - UIButton selector in NSObject causes crash

having a little issue in an ARC environment. Creating an NSObject that adds a view to a parent view - it's basically a 'popup class' that can handle some text and display it.
In a view controller it's instantiated..
CBHintPopup *popup = [[CBHintPopup alloc]init];
[popup showPopupWithText:#"test text" inView:self.view];
And the actual class files..
CBHintPopup.h
#interface CBHintPopup : NSObject {
}
-(void)showPopupWithText:(NSString *)text inView:(UIView *)view;
-(IBAction)closePopup;
#property (nonatomic, strong) UIView *popupView;
#property (nonatomic, strong) UIImageView *blackImageView;
#property (nonatomic, strong) UIButton *closeButton;
#end
CBHintPopup.m
#implementation CBHintPopup
#synthesize popupView,blackImageView, closeButton;
-(void)showPopupWithText:(NSString *)text inView:(UIView *)view {
//CREATE CONTAINER VIEW
self.popupView = [[UIView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake((view.frame.size.width/2)-(225/2),-146,225,146)];
self.popupView.alpha = 0;
self.popupView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
//CREATE AND ADD BACKGROUND
UIImageView *popupBackground = [[UIImageView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,225,146)];
popupBackground.image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"hintbackground.png"];
[self.popupView addSubview:popupBackground];
//CREATE AND ADD BUTTON
self.closeButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[self.closeButton addTarget:self action:#selector(closePopup) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[self.popupView addSubview:self.closeButton];
//CREATE AND ADD LABEL
UILabel *popupTextLabel = [[UILabel alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(22,25,176,93)];
popupTextLabel.text = text;
[self.popupView addSubview:popupTextLabel];
[view addSubview:self.popupView];
}
-(void)closePopup {
NSLog(#"HI");
}
Recieving the following once closePopup is called via pressing the button ('HI' is not printed)..
-[CBHintPopup performSelector:withObject:withObject:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x246b2fe0
I've tried retaining the button in non-ARC and a load of other methods but simply having no luck. Probably something real simple but i can't nail it. I've removed all the setting up of the labels and images etc to save some space, so ignore alpha's etc.
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks for your time.
Have you implemented the constructor for CBHintPopup,since you have called the constructor
[[CBHintPopup alloc]init];
you have to implement the constructor method like this
in .m file of CBHintPopup
-(id)init{
if(self == [super init]){
// do some initialization here
}
return self;
}
I tried your code and found the crash you mentioned. I found a solution for fixing the crash.
I declared the CBHintPopup *popup; in the viewController's interface. And changed this line
CBHintPopup *popup = [[CBHintPopup alloc]init];
to
popup = [[CBHintPopup alloc]init];
Everything worked fine for me. But I couldn't find the reason behind this. Hope this will help you.
Found a fix for it - instead of CBHintPopup being an NSObject, i simply made it a sub-class of UIView and added self to the parent view (instead of self.popupView). I wouldn't really call this a 'fix' though - more of an alternative method. Surely an NSObject can add a UIView (with a UIBUtton) to a parent view with no problems? Is this a bug?
Make sure you are retaining the object for class CBHintPopup.
I think the crash is coming because object of CBHintPopup deallocates. And hence the action method is not found.

How to add a popup UIView (of a customized class) on a UIViewController

I'm new on this, and I would like to get some advice because I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I want to make an app in xcode, with a UIView with some items, and when you do something, another UIView (smaller than the first) pops up above the first UIView. The popup UIView would be a customized class.
I have started with the UIViewController template and the initial UIView, and I have linked all the items in the .storyboard, and it works. But when I create my own UIView class (from objective-C class), put the second UIView over the first in the storyboard and link it to my class, something goes wrong.
The UIView appears, but when I try to set it to hidden, it doesn't answer. It's like it's not receiving the messages, so I think I don't link it well programmatically and just appears because of the storyboard.
I don't know if I have to create another UIViewController instead of the UIView, or if this is the correct path.
Can anybody explain me a little, or just write a little code snippet with the instantiation of the second view and adding it?
Lots of thanks!!
(I paste some code, of the declaration in .h and instantiation in .m)
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "EditView.h"
#interface ReleaseViewController : UIViewController <UIWebViewDelegate, UISearchBarDelegate> {
IBOutlet UIWebView *web;
IBOutlet UISearchBar *search;
IBOutlet EditView *evHack;
}
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWebView *web;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UISearchBar *search;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet EditView *evHack;
#end
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
search.delegate = self;
web.delegate = self;
evHack = [evHack initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 44, 320, 377)];
[evHack setHidden:YES];
}
EditView Class (I still have nothing):
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface EditView : UIView
#end
#import "EditView.h"
#implementation EditView
- (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame
{
self = [super initWithFrame:frame];
if (self) {
NSLog(#"View created");
}
return self;
}
/*
// Only override drawRect: if you perform custom drawing.
// An empty implementation adversely affects performance during animation.
- (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect
{
// Drawing code
}
*/
#end
initWithFrame only works when you alloc/init an app. If its already initialized, in this case by the storyboard, just set its frame:
evHack.frame = CGRectMake(0,44, 320, 377);
I don't know what it looks like in IB, But setting its frame in code may be redundant if you set it in IB too. To check whether evHack is hooked up right, NSLog evHack in viewDidLoad. If you get nil back, it's not hooked up right.

resize the Hosting View through addSubview in Core-Plot in XCode 4

I'm running into a wall trying to resize the Hosting View. The problem is I either get a full-screen plot or a blank screen. I'm hoping to get some leads to fix this problem:
I'm using Xcode 4 | IOS 4.3 | Recently downloaded core plot using hg:
I have two xib files (MainWindow & my ViewController)
My ViewController.xib file contains two objects: a View and Hosting View both at the same level:
+-View
+-Graph Hosting View
I get no erros in my code, but all I get a blank screen. I've searched for 3 days how to get around this problem, but haven't found something that works.
My xAppDelegate.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#class CorePlotTestViewController;
#interface CorePlotTestAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> {
}
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet CorePlotTestViewController *viewController;
#end
My ViewController.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "CorePlot-CocoaTouch.h"
#interface CorePlotTestViewController : UIViewController <CPTPlotDataSource>
{
CPTXYGraph *graph;
NSMutableArray *dataForPlot;
CPTGraphHostingView *graphView;
}
#property(readwrite, retain, nonatomic) NSMutableArray *dataForPlot;
#property(nonatomic, retain)IBOutlet CPTGraphHostingView* graphView;
My ViewController.m
#import "CorePlotTestViewController.h"
#interface CorePlotTestViewController(private)
- (void) configureTableHeader;
#end
#implementation CorePlotTestViewController
#synthesize dataForPlot;
#synthesize graphView;
-(void)dealloc
{
[dataForPlot release];
[super dealloc];
}
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
[self configureTableHeader];
}
- (void) configureTableHeader
{
// here I implement the contents of the Hosting View
graph = [[CPTXYGraph alloc] initWithFrame: CGRectZero];
CPTGraphHostingView *hostingView = [(CPTGraphHostingView *)[CPTGraphHostingView alloc]
initWithFrame:CGRectZero];
[self.view addSubview:hostingView];
...
// etc
...
}
In your code, you initialize the hosting view using a CGRectZero frame, which is basically a frame with an origin at (0,0) and both a width and a height of 0 px. It is the reason why you don't see the graph at all when you run your project.
If you gave a custom size and location to the hosting view in Interface Builder, it is overridden by this code.
By the way, I'm not sure why you want to add the hosting view to the controller's view in the code. You just need to layout both components using Interface Builder, giving the hosting view the size and the location you want it to have.
Last thing : why do you add a 'T' to Core-Plot class names ? CPTPlotDataSource should simply be CPPlotDataSource; CPTXYGraph: CPXYGraph; etc.

Custom UIView subclass as a UIViewController property

I had thought I actually had a pretty good handle on the whole view controller model, but something just doesn't seem to making much sense for me. My main issue is with adding a custom UIView subclass as a property of a UIViewController subclass.
Whenever I assign a valid instance of a UIView subclass to that property, nothing happens or the code crashes.
Here's a quick outline:
The main controller inits its own view and that loads fine.
I can then add this UIView subclass to the main controller by instantiating it and addSubview:ivar etc. No problems there...
However... if I wanted to have this custom UIView as a property of the ViewController, that does not seem to work. Can anyone shed some light?
Here's a code summary:
#interface CustomUIView : UIView { }
.
#interface MainViewController : UIViewController {
CustomUIView *someOtherView;
}
#property (nonatomic, copy) CustomUIView *someOtherView;
...
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor greenColor]; // the default controller view
CustomUIView *tmpView = [[CustomUIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,320,480)];
[self.view addSubview:tmpView]; // this works
self.someOtherView = tmpView; // this does NOT work and
self.view = self.someOtherView; // ultimately, this is what i'm after
[tmpView release];
}
Many thanks to this wonderful community!
You can't copy UIViews. Or UIView subclasses. Try retain, instead.
