Zend Select with multiple bound parameters - zend-framework

I'm trying to write a query using a Zend_Db_Table object with multiple bound parameters. My query, before I put in the real values, was being run as follows:
$mytbl = new MyTable();
$myresults = $mytbl->fetchAll(
"(col1 LIKE 'val1' AND col2 LIKE 'val2')
OR (col1 LIKE 'val2' AND col2 LIKE 'val1'))
AND col3 = 'val3');
This works - except my variables are not being quoted properly. I tried to then replace the second line with:
$mytbl->fetchAll(
"(col1 LIKE ? AND col2 LIKE ?)
OR (col1 LIKE ? AND col2 LIKE ?))
AND col3 = ?,
array(
$db->quote($val1),
$db->quote($val2),
$db->quote($val2),
$db->quote($val1),
$db->quote($val3)));
but then I get an SQL error that the number of parameters does not match. So I tried:
$mytbl->fetchAll(
$mytbl->select()
->where("(col1 LIKE ? AND col2 LIKE ?)
OR (col1 LIKE ? AND col2 LIKE ?)) AND col3 = ?,
array(
$db->quote($val1),
$db->quote($val2),
$db->quote($val2),

but I get the same error. If I put a single parameter, without the array, then it does the replacement properly, but with the array, it does not work. How can I bind multiple parameters like this?

just use IN and put the questionmark in brackets... example:
$productIds = array(1, 2, 3);
$select = $db->select()
->from('products',
array('product_id', 'product_name', 'price'))
->where('product_id IN (?)', $productIds);

You don't need to quote your variables, ZF takes care of this for you:
$mytbl->fetchAll(
"(col1 LIKE ? AND col2 LIKE ?)
OR (col1 LIKE ? AND col2 LIKE ?))
AND col3 = ?",
array($val1, $val2, $val3, $val4, $val5));

postgresql: "...where X IN <array type column values>" syntax?

I'm having problem with using the values of an array column in a where clause. Complete example to reproduce:

I've tried ...where genre_type = ANY() per other stackoverflow answers as well as ...where genre_type <# () and I can't get anything to work! It seems the inner query (which works) is being return as an array type and not a list of values or something. Any help appreciated!!
I agree with #Hogan that this seems doable with a JOIN but the syntax you are looking for is the following:
SELECT *
FROM books
WHERE genre_type = ANY(ARRAY(SELECT fave_genres FROM reader_profile WHERE id = 2))
;

Can I suggest using a join instead?
select *
from public.books b

Interconnecting tables on PostgreSQL

I am a newbie here.
I am using PostgreSQL to manipulate lots of data in my specific field of research. Unfortunately, I am encountering a problem that is not allowing me to continue my analysis. I tried to simplify my problem to clearly illustrate it.
Let's suppose I have a table called "Buyers" with those data:
table_buyers
The buyers can make ONLY ONE purchase in each store or none. There are three stores and there a table for each one. Just like below:

To create the tables, I am using the following code:

As all the tables are interconnected by buyer's ID, I wish I could have a query that generates an output just like this:
desired output table.
Please, note that if the buyer did not buy anything in a store, I must print '0'.
I know this is an easy task, but unfortunately, I have been failing on accomplish it.
Using the 'AND' logical operator, I tried the following code to accomplish this task:
SELECT
buyer.id,
buyer.name,
store1.total_order,
store2.total_order,
store3.total_order
FROM
public.buyer,
public.store1,
public.store2,
public.store3
WHERE
buyer.id = store1.id_buyer AND
buyer.id = store2.id_buyer AND
buyer.id = store3.id_buyer;
But, obviously, it just returned 'Igor' as this was the only buyer that have bought items on all three stores (print screen).
Then, I tried the 'OR' logical operator, just like the following code:
SELECT
buyer.id,
buyer.name,
store1.total_order,
store2.total_order,
store3.total_order
FROM
public.buyer,
public.store1,
public.store2,
public.store3
WHERE
buyer.id = store1.id_buyer OR
buyer.id = store2.id_buyer OR
buyer.id = store3.id_buyer;
But then, it returns 12 lines with wrong values (print screen).
Clearly, my mistake is about not considering that 'Buyers' don't have to on all three stores on my code. I just can't correct it on my own, can you please help me?

So, this query has a couple elements should focus on. The subselects/groupby allow you to total within your subtables by ID_buyer. The LEFT OUTER JOIN make its so your query can still return a result, even if a subselect finds no matching record. Finally, the COALESCE allows you to return 0 when one of your totals is NULL (because the subselect found no match).

Why selectrow_array does not work with null values in where clause

I am trying to fetch the count from SQL server database and it gives 0 for fields with null values. Below is what I am using.
my $sql = q{SELECT count(*) from customer where first_name = ? and last_name = ?};
my #bind_values = ($first_name, $last_name);
my $count = $dbh->selectrow_array($sql, undef, #bind_values);
This returns 0 if either value is null in the database. I know prepare automatically makes it is null if the passed parameter is undef, but I don't know why it's not working.
So here is weird observation. When I type the SQL with values in Toda for SQL server, it works :
SELECT count(*) from customer where first_name = 'bob' and last_name is null
but when I try the same query and pass values in the parameter for the first_name = bob and the last_name {null} . it does not work.
SELECT count(*) from customer where first_name = ? and last_name = ?
For NULL in the WHERE clause you simply need a different query. I write them below each other, so you can spot the difference:
...("select * from test where col2 = ?", undef, 1);
...("select * from test where col2 is ?", undef, undef);
...("select * from test where col2 is ?", undef, 1);
...("select * from test where col2 = ?", undef, undef);
The first two commands work, stick to those. The third is a syntax error, the fourth is what you tried and which indeed does not return anything.
The DBI manpage has a section of NULL values that talks about this case a bit more.
So, here it is what I did. I added or field is null statement with each field if the value is undef.

Run function with select statement

I have a tabe valued function called "GetLogInfosMsg" which I want to run provided with some Parameters from a specific table. The code below does not work; I get the message "Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the sub-query is not introduced with EXISTS.". Can somebody help me? Thanks.

How to conditionally filter on a column in a WHERE clause?

OK, the umpteenth conditional column question:
I'm writing a stored proc that takes an input parameter that's mapped to one of several flag columns. What's the best way to filter on the requested column? I'm currently on SQL2000, but about to move to SQL2008, so I'll take a contemporary solution if one's available.
The table queried in the sproc looks like
ID ... fooFlag barFlag bazFlag quuxFlag

01 1 0 0 1
02 0 1 0 0
03 0 0 1 1
04 1 0 0 0
and I want to do something like
select ID, name, description, ...
from myTable
where (colname like #flag + 'Flag') = 1
so if I call the sproc like exec uspMyProc #flag = 'foo' I'd get back rows 1 and 4.
I know I can't do the part in parens directly in SQL. In order to do dynamic SQL, I'll have to stuff the entire query into a string, concatenate the #flag param in the WHERE clause and then exec the string. Aside from the dirty feeling I get when doing dynamic SQL, my query is fairly large (I'm selecting a couple dozen fields, joining 5 tables, calling a couple of functions), so it's a big giant string all because of a single line in a 3-line WHERE filter.
Alternately, I could have 4 copies of the query and select among them in a CASE statement. This leaves the SQL code directly executable (and subject to syntax hilighting, etc.) but at the cost of repeating big chunks of code, since I can't use the CASE on just the WHERE clause.
Are there any other options? Any tricky joins or logical operations that can be applied? Or should I just get over it and exec the dynamic SQL?
There are a few ways to do this:
You can do this with a case statement.
select ID, name, description, ...
from myTable
where CASE
WHEN #flag = 'foo' then fooFlag
WHEN #flag = 'bar' then barFlag
END = 1
You can use IF.
IF (#flag = 'foo') BEGIN
select ID, name, description, ...
from myTable
where fooFlag = 1
END ELSE IF (#flag = 'bar') BEGIN
select ID, name, description, ...
from myTable
where barFlag = 1
END
....
You can have a complicated where clause with a lot of parentheses.
select ID, name, description, ...
from myTable
where (#flag = 'foo' and fooFlag = 1)
OR (#flag = 'bar' and barFlag = 1) OR ...
You can do this with dynamic sql:
DECLARE #SQL nvarchar(4000)
SELECT #SQL = N'select ID, name, description, ...
from myTable
where (colname like ''' + #flag + 'Flag'') = 1'
EXECUTE sp_ExecuteSQL #SQL, N''
There are more, but I think one of these will get you going.

You don't need to copy your entire query 4 times, just add all the possibilities into the where clauses in your single copy of the query:
select ID, name, description, ...
from myTable
where (#flag = 'foo' and fooFlag = 1) OR (#flag = 'bar' and barFlag = 1) OR ...
What I would do is CASE some variables at the beginning. Example:

SELECT ID, name, description, ...

WHERE (fooFlag >= ISNULL(#fooFlag, 0) AND fooFlag <= ISNULL(#fooFlag, 1))
AND (barFlag >= ISNULL(#barFlag, 0) AND barFlag <= ISNULL(#barFlag, 1))
AND (bazFlag >= ISNULL(#bazFlag, 0) AND bazFlag <= ISNULL(#bazFlag, 1))
AND (quuxFlag >= ISNULL(#quuxFlag, 0) AND quuxFlag <= ISNULL(#quuxFlag, 1))
The good thing about this query is that, because the possible values for "flags" are bounded, you can calculate all your conditionals as prerequisites instead of wrapping columns in them. This guarantees a high-performance index seek on whichever columns are indexed, and doesn't require writing any dynamic SQL. And it's better than writing 4 separate queries for obvious reasons.
You could have a parameter for each possible flag column, then check if the parameter is null or the value in the column is equal to the parameter. Then you pass in a 1 for the flags that you want to check and leave the others null.
select id, name, description, ...
from myTable
where (#fooFlag is null or fooFlag = #fooFlag) AND
(#barFlag is null or barFlag = #barFlag) AND
...
Honestly, though, this seems like an ideal candidate for building a dynamic LINQ query and skipping the SPROC once you get to SQL2008.
