Initialization commands cannot be evaluated - matlab

I took the 'Performance of Three PSS for Interarea Oscillations' simulink model. I have disabled the link for 'Delta w PSS' block and modified (removed some connections and added new blocks) it according to my usage. Now when I simulate I am getting an error "Initialization commands cannot be evaluated" on this 'Delta w PSS'block.
What should I do to solve this problem?
Thanks

My guess is that it cannot initialize some of the mask parameters. If you right-click on the block and choose "View Mask...", you'll see what the initialization commands are under the "Initialization" block (you may have to go back to the library block). Unfortunately, once you start breaking/disabling library links and modifying library blocks, you're on your own...

In Power electronics, I saw this error and I have added a block named powergui and it solved. to find it I searched powergui
it may help you to find such this block in your kind of use

MATLAB: Does the execution of addpath/rmpath/savepath in one MATLAB instance affect other instances?

Does the execution of addpath/rmpath/savepath in one MATLAB instance affect other instances?
Motivation: Imagine that you are developing a MATLAB package, which provides a group of functions to the users. You have multiple versions of this package being developed on a single laptop. You would like to test these different versions in multiple instances of MATLAB:
You open one MATLAB window, type run_test(DIRECTORY_OF_PACKAGE_VERSION1), and hit enter;
While the first test is running, you open another MATLAB window, type run_test(DIRECTORY_OF_PACKAGE_VERSION2), and hit enter.
See the pseudo-code below for a better idea about the tests.
No code or data is shared between different tests --- except for those embedded in MATLAB, as the tests are running on the same laptop, using the same installation of MATLAB. Below is a piece of pseudo-code for such a scenario.
% MATLAB instance 1
run_test(DIRECTORY_OF_PACKAGE_VERSION1);
% MATLAB instance 2
run_test(DIRECTORY_OF_PACKAGE_VERSION2);
% Code for the tests
function run_test(package_directory)
setup_package(package_dirctory);
RUN EXPERIMENTS TO TEST THE FUNCTIONS PROVIDED BY THE PACKAGE;
uninstall_package(package_directory);
end
% This is the setup of the package that you are developing.
% It should be called as a black box in the tests.
function setup_package(package_dirctory)
addpath(PATH_TO_THE_FUNCTIONS_PROVIDED_BY_THE_PACKAGE);
% Make the package available in subsequent MATLAB sessions
savepath;
end
% The function that uninstalls the package: remove the paths
% added by `setup_package` and delete the files etc.
function uninstall_package(package_directory)
rmpath(PATH_TO_THE_FUNCTIONS_PROVIDED_BY_THE_PACKAGE);
savepath;
end
You want to make sure the following.
The tests do not interfere with each other;
Each test is calling funtions from the correct version of the package.
Hence here come our questions.
Questions:
Does the execuation of addpath, rmpath, and savepath in one MATLAB instance affect the other instance, sooner or later?
More generally, what kind of commands executed in one MATLAB instance can affect the other instance?
3. What if I am running only one instance of MATLAB, but invoke a parfor loop with two loops running in parallel? Does the execution of addpath/rmpath/savepath in one loop affect the other loop, sooner or later? In general, what kind of commands executed in one parallel loop can affect the other loop? (As pointed out by #Edric, this can be complicated; so let us not worry about it. Thank you, #Edric.)
Thank you very much for any comments and insights. It would be much appreciated if you could direct me to relevant sections in the official documentation of MATLAB --- I did some searching in the documentation, but have not found an answer to my question.
BTW, in case you find that the test described in the pseudo code is conducted in a wrong/bad manner, I will be very grateful if you could recommend a better way of doing it.
The documentation page for the MATLAB Search Path specifies at the bottom:
When you change the search path, MATLAB uses it in the current session, but does not update pathdef.m. To use the modified search path in the current and future sessions, save the changes using savepath or the Save button in the Set Path dialog box. This updates pathdef.m.
So, standard MATLAB sessions are "isolated" in terms of their MATLAB Search Path unless you use savepath. After a call to savepath, new MATLAB sessions will read the updated pathdef.m on startup.
The situation with a parallel pool is slightly more complex. There are a couple of things that affect this. First is the parameter AutoAddClientPath that you can specify for the parpool command. When true, an attempt is made to reflect the desktop MATLAB's path on the workers. (This might not work if the workers cannot access the same folders).
When a parallel pool is running, any changes to the path on the desktop MATLAB client are sent to the workers, so they can attempt to add or remove path entries. Parallel pool workers calling addpath or rmpath do so in isolation. (I'm afraid I can't find a documentation reference for this).

stm32f4 HardFault_Handler - need debugging advice

I'm working on a project based on the stm32f4discovery board using IAR Embedded Workbench (though I'm very close to the 32kb limit on the free version so I'll have to find something else soon). This is a learning project for me and so far I've been able to solve most of my issues with a few google searches and a lot of trial and error. But this is the first time I've encountered a run-time error that doesn't appear to be caused by a problem with my logic and I'm pretty stuck. Any general debugging strategy advice is welcome.
So here's what happens. I have an interrupt on a button; each time the button is pressed, the callback function runs my void cal_acc(uint16_t* data) function defined in stm32f4xx_it.c. This function gathers some data, and on the 6th press, it calls my void gn(float32_t* data, float32_t* beta) function. Eventually, two functions are called, gn_resids and gn_jacobian. The functions are very similar in structure. Both take in 3 pointers to 3 arrays of floats and then modify the values of the first array based on the second two. Unfortunately, when the second function gn_jacobian exits, I get the HardFault.
Please look at the link (code structure) for a picture showing how the program runs up to the fault.
Thank you very much! I appreciate any advice or guidance you can give me,
-Ben
Extra info that might be helpful below:
Running in debug mode, I can step into the function and run through all the lines click by click and it's OK. But as soon as I run the last line and it should exit and move on to the next line in the function where it was called, it crashes. I have also tried rearranging the order of the calls around this function and it is always this one that crashes.
I had been getting a similar crash on the first function gn_resids when one of the input pointers pointed to an array that was not defined as "static". But now all the arrays are static and I'm quite confused - especially since I can't tell what is different between the gn_resids function that works and the gn_jacobian function that does not work.
acc1beta is declared as a float array at the beginning of main.c and then also as extern float32_t acc1beta[6] at the top of stm32f4xx_it.c. I want it as a global variable; there is probably a better way to do this, but it's been working so far with many other variables defined in the same way.
Here's a screenshot of what I see when it crashes during debug (after I pause the session) IAR view at crash
EDIT: I changed the code of gn_step to look like this for a test so that it just runs gn_resids twice and it crashes as soon as it gets to the second call - I can't even step into it. gn_jacobian is not the problem.
void gn_step(float32_t* data, float32_t* beta) {
static float32_t resids[120];
gn_resids(resids, data, beta);
arm_matrix_instance_f32 R;
arm_mat_init_f32(&R, 120, 1, resids);
// static float32_t J_f32[720];
// gn_jacobian(J_f32, data, beta);
static float32_t J_f32[120];
gn_resids(J_f32, data, beta);
arm_matrix_instance_f32 J;
arm_mat_init_f32(&J, 120, 1, J_f32);
Hardfaults on Cortex M devices can be generated by various error conditions, for example:
Access of data outside valid memory
Invalid instructions
Division by zero
It is possible to gather information about the source of the hardfault by looking into some processor registers. IAR provides a debugger macro that helps to automate that process. It can be found in the IAR installation directory arm\config\debugger\ARM\vector_catch.mac. Please refer to this IAR Technical Note on Debugging Hardfaults for details on using this macro.
Depending on the type of the hardfault that occurs in your program you should try to narrow down the root cause within the debugger.

How to update variable in From workspace block during runtime

I have a sample model(shown below) which consist of a from workspace block. It contains a workspace variable variable1(timeseries signal). I am changing the data of variable1 during simulation but model is not updating the current value of variable1. It's update only when I stop and restart the simulation but I want it to update during runtime only. Can anyone help me in handling this problem?
This is not really how Simulink is designed to work, so there's no easy way to do this. Simulink only checks only checks the workspace for values during model initialization at the start of the simulation. The best thing to do is to use set_param, as in:
set_param('untitled/From Workspace',' VariableName','variable1'); % put the correct path to your block
This is not changing anything in how the block is parameterised, but forces Simulink to parameterise the block with the new values of variable1. Because variable1 is a timeseries object, I am not sure how well this will work, but it's worth a try.
For more details, see this discussion on MATLAB Central.

How can I use 5x5filter (Xilinx block), it keeps telling me there is an error in the counter?

I'm trying to apply edge filter to an image using Xilinx blocks,
I used 5x5 buffer then I connected the 5x5filter to it.
But it keeps telling me:
Illegal Period, This blocks attempts to set period that is a non-integer multiple of the system rate
Error occurred during "Block Configuration".'
which I did not understand.
Similar such problem(with solution) is posted in Xilinx Forum. Go through the link given below:
http://forums.xilinx.com/t5/DSP-Tools/Can-any-1-help-me-regarding-FIR-implementation-in-system/m-p/33650#M1463
It means that the sample time of one of the block isn't an integer multiple of the model's minor timestep. Check the configuration parameters for the model and the parameters of your new blocks.
I don't think this has anything to do with the Xilinx blocks specifically.

Disable/Comment a block in Simulink

Is it possible to comment out the block in Simulink like it is possible in any programming languages ? I mean, using logic, I can disable the block. but its not the best solution all the time.
I would rather disable / comment out the part of the block in my Model to test individual modules in Simulink.
I just wanted to add that in Simulnk 2012b, it is now possible to explicitly comment out blocks. Simply right-click on the block and select the option "Comment Out".
When run, the model will act as if the commented out block is not there at all. This means that input/output signals to/from this block are essentially just left open. So for example, if you commented out a gain block, the input signal would not simply pass through to the output signal.
I found a potentially useful solution in the matlab central forums.
A good way to "comment out" Simulink blocks is to use a switch block
whose control port is driven by a global constant value (parameter).
Say PARA=1 if you want to have this Simulink block in your code and
PARA=0 if you want to comment it out. Choose the threshold of your
switch w.r.t the value of PARA. The first branch of the switch should
pass the original signal to the Simulink block you want to have. The
other should end at a terminator block. In this case, no code is
executed for the Simulink block you want to comment out. And if you
use a code generator, the code generator can decide in advance,
whether you want to generate code for this block or not (depending on
the value of PARA).

Hopefully that will work for you as well.

1) Select a simulink block.
2) Edit -> Comment Out:
