I have been trying to use gprof with MongoDB to do profiling. Having the corresponding build file to mongod, which is in Scons, modified to include the proper linker and compiler flags (based on the hints at How to build-in gprof support to a program built with SCons?), I am still unable to see the expected output file (gmon.out). I have made the same changes on a toy project and it's working just fine. I was wondering if there is any change that I can make on MongoDB to make it work with gprof. If there is no hope in using these two together, I'd appreciate any suggestions on other tools that I can use to get similar profiling numbers.

I'm currently trying to create an executable for my Vapor application, but I just can't run it on my server.
My expectation was that it would be able to create a single application with all my code and the dependencies. My current references are .NET and Go, where you can create a single executable from the code and deploy this standalone file - which makes it amazingly simple to deploy.
I tried compiling and executing it on Docker, but no such luck - it failed with some libSwift something missing.
So, can Swift do something like this?

You can build a binary that statically links the standard library or build a completely self contained binary using the static linking flags introduced in Swift 5.3.1 - -static-stdlib and -static-executable. See this forum post for more details.
Note that swift still has some dependencies on ICU and libc so aren't completely portable yet
I've recently switched to using PlatformIO for developing for STM32 using the following workflow:
Create a .ioc file using the CubeMX utility
Generate source code and the PlatformIO configuration from that .ioc file from the stm32pio command line utility
Edit, build, and debug using the PlatformIO plug-in for VSCode (Mac)
Overall, this works very well. However, I was previously using the CubeMX code generation in ST's CubeMX IDE, which placed a .s file in the source directory that (as I understand it) defined the NVIC, as well as the default function that was used for exceptions/interrupts that are not explicitly defined (i.e., those handled by their default weak implementations.) I don't see where this is defined in the new workflow. Is this generated dynamically as part of the build process?
The reason I'm asking is (beside wanting a better understanding of the process overall), I'd like to write an interrupt handler for EXTI0, but trigger it as a software interrupt, and not assign a pin to it. If that is not possible, then perhaps the entire point is moot.
I was able to find the answer. These steps might be useful to somebody else who comes across this question. This was done on MacOS, but should be similar to the process for other operating systems.
During the build process, the filename can be seen. It will be prefaced with startup_, followed by the name of the particular chip you're developing for. In my case, the line is

Searching in the .platformio folder of my user directory, I found the matching .s file, which in my case was .platformio/packages/framework-stm32cube/f0/Drivers/CMSIS/Device/ST/STM32F0xx/Source/Templates/gcc/startup_stm32f072xb.s
The structure of the path leading to the file indicates the particulars of the hardware and frameworks I'm using: STM32Cube framework, a F0 series chip, and the GCC compiler. The easiest way to find this file, and how I was able to find it, is using the find command from the terminal to search the PlatformIO directory.
Reading this file gives the lines I was looking for, defining the names of the functions to be used for exception and interrupt handling, such as the following:
.weak EXTI0_1_IRQHandler
.thumb_set EXTI0_1_IRQHandler,Default_Handler
It seems like, while I am using the CubeMX HAL for some drivers, the basic startup code is done using CMSIS, so it should be the same for HAL, LL, or CMSIS based builds.
I'm looking at using Tesseract to do some work with PDF files, and so I want to use the library rather than an external executable.
I started by downloading the full Tesseract source and looking at building that. Sadly the standard sources don't have any means to build on a non-Linux platform, in my case Windows. There are methods for doing so, and I looked at those.
Firstly the VS2008 build doesn't. I'm aware that it need Leptonica, but I figured I'd tackle that afterwards and just tried to build the existing code. Fails with "fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'allheaders.h': No such file or directory". Nothing to do with Leptonica at this stage, it simply doesn't work.
Even if I were able to get past that, I'd have to build Leptonica, and that requires using GNU tools and therefore an installation of Cygwin, so I gave up. I Have a MingW instatllation, (I've never managed to get Cygwin to work in a usable fashion) but I'm not keen enough to mess with such a complicated and fragile build.
So I decided I'd just use the pre-built binaries which some kind soul creates. Downloaded that from code.google.com. Now I need to look into using the code, so the next obvious step is the Tesseract API example, which states it requires "tesseract-ocr-3.02.02-win32-lib-include-dirs.zip", no problem, because I already have that now.
No real clue as to where the API example wants the files to be placed, but a little messing about gets them in appropriate locations. Press build and "fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'allheaders.h': No such file or directory", just like trying to build Tesseract from source.....
And indeed there is no such file.
So, where is this file ?
I also struggled some time ago to make it works under windows and then I found this git repository : https://github.com/charlesw/tesseract-vs2012
It includes all needed extern library (because Tesseract need Leptonica, but Leptonica also need extern library to handle the different image format) and is also working great with vs 2013.
OK so now I see that allheaders.h is part of Leptonica. Still leaves me wondering why the Tesseract pre-built library requires that I have Leptonica available, I would have expected that to be built-in, I guess it isn't.
so what I'm trying to do is utilize a simple Qt application IN eclipse without using the eclipse QT plugin by linking the required libraries through the GCC C++ Linker. However, I have been unable to locate the exact name of the library to use, or which libraries will be necessary. I've located the path of the Qt library my application seems to be accessing, but I continue to get an error when building that just says "-lqt" doesn't exist/can't find, etc.
The reason I'm doing this is because I'm building a simple game in OGRE for a project at the uni and wanted to use a Qt application for the GUI. Well, I didn't necessarily want too, but our professor wishes us to do so. Please don't suggest that I simply embed an Ogre widgit into my Qt application as this isn't an opti

Well, if you are using CMake then it should take care of everything provided that you instructed it to do so. phb provided a link to even better instructions.
First step is to instruct the CMake that we need Qt for our project. This is done with (you can specify individual parts that are needed as well):
find_package(Qt4 REQUIRED)
If Qt is not found in the typical locations (e.g. QTDIR is not set) - cmake will fail.
You also have to instruct CMake to use Qt include paths and set certain compiler definitions:
include(${QT_USE_FILE})
add_definitions(${QT_DEFINITIONS})
Finally, for each target you need to tell that you'd like to link with Qt libraries:
target_link_libraries(foo ${QT_LIBRARIES})
You might also want to process your headers and will have to process the user interface files with moc. For the details please refer to the provided links.

I've been trying to build some huge projects in BCB5 for some time now. I want to use the command line tools because it would cut build time by more than 50% (it already takes 4 hours in the IDE). Often, projects will build just fine in the IDE but fail miserably in the command line. I did some digging and discovered this nice little comment in a header file:

Is this saying that the components that follow can only be built with the IDE open? Please tell me there is a way around this. BCB5 is starting to make me depressed.

Make.exe gives a pile of errors claiming ambiguity between the header file and an imported file. I''m pretty sure the header file is supposed to be referencing the imported file though, rather than comparing with it.

No, this does not mean that you can only build the source in the IDE. It just means that this section is automatically populated by the IDE (the form designer)
While there are good third party solutions (as mentioned by the others) C++Builder 2007 and above made huge improvements in the build system. IDE build times are very similar to command line builds and the MSBuild integration now makes it possible to be sure that the same parameters are passed to the command line tools as are used by the IDE.
Have you tried installing the C++ Compiler Enhancements plugin, by Andreas Hausladen, which improves the compilation speed. I would also recommend installing the DelphiSpeedUp plugin.
I think you need to export the project as makefile, to compile from the command line, because C++Builder 5 project files are XML. Have a look at this article, from the C++Builder Developer's Journal.

I've more or less given up on the BCB5 command line tools. It appears that they are fundamentally broken.
I did, however, manage to find a nice open source tool, ProjectMaker, that uses the command line tools effectively. You can find it here: http://projectmaker.jomitech.com.
ProjectMaker fixes up a few of the problems with BPR2MAK, but it's not perfect. Most project build perfectly with ProjectMaker, some still require the IDE. It's not a perfect solution, but it does alright.
