'Error in Parameters' for Tableau? - tableau-api

Just force-closed my Tableau workbook full of metrics, and when I opened again, I received the error message:
'Error in Parameters for command 'get-quantative-color' bad value: fn
After this, I received error messages that all of my calculated fields and even some basic date fields 'do not exist,' and I am basically left with a blank workbook.
Happy to provide more detail if needed -- anyone have any suggestions? Have been working on the workbook for a while and would rather not have to recreate from scratch :)

In Grafana, how do we deal with queries that return 0 rows in a chart/panel?

I’m running into a problem that might be self inflicted but I’m a noob and I’m still stumbling thru this dashboard I inherited.
We are using Grafana 8.1.5. I inherited a dashboard with a panel that is giving this error message:
“failed to convert long to wide series when converting from dataframe: can not convert to wide series, input has null time values” error.
I think I know the cause but I don’t know how to fix it. The data source is from a MySQL database. When we select “All” under the dropdown “Org”, we don’t get this error and we get 8 rows back and are expecting 8 rows.
When we select one org (in this example “Data Protection”) under the dropdown “Org”, we do get the error and we get 5 rows back. I think because 3 queries return 0 rows, we are getting this error.
Each pie slice has its own SQL query to get data. For the queries that return 0 rows, I tried selecting some of the “Standard options” to fix it but it doesn’t seem to work. I tried to play around with the Min, Max, and “No Value” settings and enter values larger than 0 but I still get this error. The initial values for Min and Max were "auto" and "No Value" was blank but the screenshot is when I left them as "1" while I was messing with them.
What do I need to do to make the message go away? Is the message benign and I shouldn’t worry about it since it looks like we’re still printing out the pie chart?
Write SQL, which returns record with zero value instead of empty result. In theory zero value, won't be visible in the pie chart and you will have still record for dataframe transformation, so that one won't be failing.
So I accidentally stumbled across the answer. What happened is the query returned data formatted as "Time Series" instead of "Table". Because some of the data didn't have values for the specified time, the time value was Null.
Since it was Null, the chart returned this error message. The fix was to select "Table" as the format. Then the chart won't care about the time value being Null and the missing data appears as 0 in the legend and we don't get the error message anymore.

Adding second table field to report causes report to go blank - Crystal Reports 14.1.2.1121 using SQL Server Database source

I have a report pulling all fields from a single SQL Server table that works well. I need to add a second table to pull additional data, but doing so causes the entire report to go blank and number of records to drop to 0, from 242 without the added field from the second report. I have no grouping in the report either.
Reviewing Database Expert Links I see multiple links between the two tables, but the field in question, (CUSTPO_27, a String field), does not appear in the original table and therefore has no link. The field needs to be in the Details section of the report along with the data from the original table.
I have run Verify Database and get the "The database is up to date" message.
Running Dependency Checker finds no errors, even with the troublesome field added.
I am fairly new to Crystal Reports, but feel like I am missing a step to be able to see the second table field in the report, so any insight or direction would be greatly appreciated.
I would be happy to add code, but I don't see where to view the code in Crystal, (again, I am a newbie!)
Adding that field probably forced Crystal to join to a new table, and that join failed to find a matching record. So check your join logic.
Crystal doesn't update your database. It's Read Only.

Find a word inside text file using Pentaho Kettle/Spoon/PDI

I am creating a Data Comparison/Verification script using SQL and Spoon PDI. We're moving data between two servers, and to make sure we've got all the data we have SQL queries showing a date then the quantity of rows transferred.
Example:
Serv1: 20150522 | 100
Serv2: 20150522 | 100
The script will then try to union these values, and if it fails we'll get a fail email. However, we wish to change this setup to write the outcome to a text file, and based on that text file send either a pass or fail email.
The idea behind this is we have multiple tables we're comparing, so we wish to write all the outcomes of each comparison (eight) to a text file and based off the final text file, send the outcome - rather than spamming our email inbox if multiple steps fail.
The format of the text file we wish to have is either match -> send email or mismatch [step-name] [date] -> send email.
Usually I wouldn't ask a question if I haven't tried anything first, but I've searched everywhere on Google, tried the knowledge I currently have and nothing is going the way I wish it to. I believe this is due to the logic I am using.
I am not asking for a solution to this, or for someone to do it for me. I am simply asking for guidance along the correct path.
I would do this in a transformation where there are steps for each union where the result of each step is the comparison_name and the result. This would result in a data set at the end that looks something like this:
comparison_name | result
Union A | true
Union B | false
Union C | true
You would then be able to output those results to a text file in another step to get your result file to sent out regardless of whether the job passed or failed.
Lastly you would loop through the result row in the stream, and if all are true, you could do an email step to send out a "pass" email, and if one is false, send out a "fail" email.
EDIT:
To get the date of the pass or fail you could either get the date from each individual union query result by adding it to the query like so:
SELECT CURRENT_DATE
Or you could use the Get System Info step in spoon which has multiple ways of injecting the current date into the data stream. (system date fixed, start date range of the transformation, today 00:00:00, etc.)

Crystal Reports 2008: field shows as blank even when data is returned from the database?

Issue
I have a report in CR 2008 that I inherited from someone else
A sub-report in the report pulls its data from a database view
A field exists, "TRANSCBFLAG" in the view -- it's a string with values of "Y", "N", or "D"
The view has these values
The report displays every other value, but not this one field.
Attempted Resolutions
Suppression attribute? -- No, it's unchecked
Field type issue? -- No, it's a string
Font and background? -- No, it's black font / white background
Suppression / formatting formulas? -- no formulas on display or suppression in subreports or report
Space constraints? -- stretched the field out below all other fields -- still shows as blank
Check to make sure Crystal can see the data -- right-clicked field, select "Browse Field Data", and it came back with the three potential values. So, it can see them in the DB at least, and potentially even in the fields itself.
Just a local Crystal Issue? -- No; I uploaded the report to Business Objects XI for a test and all fields still display except that one.
Question
Where in the process could I be going wrong? It shows when I run the view directly from the database, and every other field shows perfectly in Crystal the first time.
I would assume you did 'Verify Database' but if not that's the first thing I would have tried.
And just a piece of advice... always, always, always run your reports off of a command you write yourself instead of using Crystal's GUI to let you select tables/views/procs. This allows you to make pretty much any kind of change to the query you want and even completely change the source from where your data is coming without wiping all your report controls away. If the modified query has the same field names it will always work seemlessly and if not it will give you a chance to redirect which fields are supposed to come from where. Otherwise... you will have to recreate everything as you just experienced.
There may be a more correct answer, but in a pinch, removing the view from my report (thus removing all fields), adding the view again, and redoing all fields caused the field to display correctly. Not sure how or why.
A further explanation would be appreciated, but for now, that's all I've got.
I had the same issue on a new report I'd created and finally found that the issue was in one of the parameters I used in my command SQL - it had double }} at the end. Eliminating one of the }s allowed the query to return data.
That said, go over the SQL in your database expert with a fine toothed comb, and you'll likely find the issue!

"The Report is empty" - is bug?

I've created report with 3 parameters in iReport and it's running successfully. The report is execute MS SQL stor proc with 3 parameters:
startdate;
enddate;
dept_nm (department name);
iReport gives good result. As soon as I exported jrxml file to JasperReports Server 4.1 I have message "The report is empty".
In the Repository under JasperReports Server I've created controls for dates parameters and single list values for dept_nm parameter.
Do you know how to debug and trace this message coming from???
Your query is returning no data. The message appears when the report result is null.
The quickest way to debug this in JasperReports Server is to modify the report's behavior when no data is returned. The default behavior is "No Pages". Change it to "All Sections, No Details". That way you'll get at least the report title and summary band.
Display your parameters in the title band to see what their values are. Often they aren't what you expect. For example, your input control is "StartDate", but your parameters is "startdate". So the parameter doesn't get the value you thought it would.
I get this a lot. E.g if you have sub reports only, it thinks the main report is blank. You have to do something silly like insert a dummy SQL into your report such as "select 1" then populate a hidden part of the report with the result. When it works on in report studio, but gives you the report is empty on the server (with a good data source - other reports working) is when you have real trouble. Not solved those yet.
Maybe you did not connect your report to any Data Source.
