add custom module to a published dnn site - dotnetnuke-5

I have a client site as a published dnn website hosted on a local server in the organization's premises.
I have developed a new module using the source code that fetches data using a stored procedure.
This is what I did to transfer the changes to the live site
1. I created the stored procedure manually on the live sites DB,
2. I published the site and replaced the content of the website folder with my published site.
3. I added the new module in the live site using the "Module Definitions" option found under the "Host" menu
Everything works perfect in the development environment, but When I publish the site and do the update on the live server , the module returns no data as expected.
Can someone guide me through how to moves the stored procedure and my new published site to the live site.

I would recommend creating your module as an installable zip file including SQL for creating the stored prods and any other db changes required.
There are a number of tutorials around that will help with this and the templates build by Charles Nurse are a great help in getting your head around good practice. (http://www.charlesnurse.com)
In the mean time have you checked the permissions on the SP in the live database. That may well be your issue.

ColdFusion Builder 3 vs. Dreamweaver & local and remote paths

I can't wrap my head around how I'm supposed to use ColdFusion Builder 3 (akin to Eclipse).
Up until this point, I've been using Dreamweaver 5, which is getting 'long-in-the-tooth', and I wanted to give CF Builder a try.
So, in Dreamweaver, it's pretty simple: you setup connections to servers using credentials... There's a Local path, which is the local copy of your code, and the webroot of the Server which is the 'live' copy of your code. Basically, you make a change to the local copy, and PUT the change to the Server. Easy peasy lemon squeezy, right?
But, how does this translate to ColdFusion Builder 3?
Just to give you an idea of our infrastructure.... we have Development and Production. Each of these boxes has multiple web instances, example: Accounting, Human Resources, IT. Each of those web instances could have multiple applications.... I'm only considered about my instance, IT, on both the Production and Development servers.
Is a workspace supposed to represent an instance on a web server?
In CFBuilder, should I configure 1 server per web app?
Is a project supposed to represent a web app?
Am I supposed to use drive mappings to the inetpub wwwroot for access to web applications? Is it even considered kosher to have a drive mapping to the web root? \server\c$\inetpub\wwwroot
Where do I keep my local copy of my code?
How do I move items from Development to Production?
My main confusion is with workspaces, projects, and servers... My intent is to debug and 'view page in browser' from CFBuilder.... However, when you setup a server, under Server Mapping and URL Prefix, you're supposed to indicate the Local and Remote paths, plus this is not directly related to the physical location of the project.... and as I've mentioned, there's multiple instances, multiple applications, and the development box is not my local machine, it's a remote server...
I would really like to know how others have made this work for them.
I really don't mind this question even though it's not directly code related because I've been using ColdFusion Builder (CFB) for years and there just isn't enough good documentation out there. I now enjoy a great experience with CFB thanks to blog posts and sharing experiences with other devs :)
My setup: CFB3 running on Windows 8.1, dev server running on a Virtual Machine so it is treated as "remote server" just like yours. I also update remote staging and production servers (although not directly from CFB).
First, let's set some reasonable expectations: Dreamweaver and CFB are very different in that CFB focuses on programming and Dreamweaver on design. CFB is built on eclipse and therefore has the advantage of benefiting from most eclipse plugins.
Your question is specifically about how to set up your projects in CFB using 2 remote servers (dev and prod). It's different for everyone but I'll share my setup with you. (sidenote: My projects are also stored in Git repositories - 1 repo for every app)
Starting from the top: A workspace in CFB deals with your whole eclipse application, not just your projects. The most important things kept in this directory are snippets and plugins. You do NOT need to keep your project files in here. This is merely the main directory where all of your settings are kept. You are not required to have more than 1 workspace (I only have one). Why would you need more than one? You may be multifaceted programmer who needs to keep separate workspaces using separate tools (like different plugins, snippets, window layouts...)
To answer your next question (1 server per web app), all you need to to is configure your dev servers in the "CF Servers" tab. You need to add 1 server per web instance for every instance that you'd like to test on. Hopefully, your dev server has RDS enabled (very helpful for remote database and file viewing, just like in Dreamweaver). During configuration, don't worry about Mappings or Virtual Host Settings (I have another recommendation later). Once configured, you'll be able to assign that server to a project.
Drive mappings: I would never recommend mapping to the webroot of a shared dev server. If you were to use that drive map as your local directory, your changes will be made directly to the development server. What you want to do is create a new project by right clicking in the Navigator area and select Import > Other > FTP. Follow the steps, choose anywhere on your local drive to store the files, then choose "New project" at the end (this will add the .project file necessary for CFB to control the project).
Once the project is created, right click on it, select ColdFusion Project and choose the CFML Dictionary version you'll be using (CF11, 10, 9...). Then, select ColdFusion Server Settings and choose the dev server. This is necessary for testing.
What you now have is a local directory with your app and eclipse knows about the remote server. In order to synchronize, you right click on the project, go to Team and synchronize from there. For detailed information about synchronization over FTP, see the help section "Guide to WebDAV and FTP".
Moving to production is not as simple as it was in Dreamweaver. The FTP configuration information only allows for 1 connection (thus giving you a list of files synchronized between your project and the dev server). Therefore, you'll need a third party FTP client to synchronize between your local project and your prod server.
As promised, my last entry will be able the "debugging" which is why I said to skip the mappings and virtual host settings in CF Server config. I really, really recommend using a third party paid plugin called FusionDebug (http://www.fusion-debug.com/). This plugin facilitates the setup and allows you to step-into all of your code (which doesn't work so well in native CFB). There's a 30 day trial and I recommend you try before your buy (or license for a year in this case!)

Oracle ATG BCC Deployment

How to deploy an Html content to BCC server in Oracle ATG?
I need to deploy the Html page from my Bcc, so it gets reflected in my production server. I am new to ATG, so i don't know how to start with the basic scratch work.
Things i have started as a scratch.
Created the ATG project in the Eclipse and deployed to the JBOSS.
Created the database and accessed through the Repository.
Created the versioned repository and dono how to accesses it through the BCC.
After these steps, i got struck up. Is the following steps are correct for starting the ATG as a Beginner?
please give me a good suggestion or the task to learn the ATG from scratch.
BCC out of the box don't have the capability to create web pages (don't confuse it with multisite feature). Some time ago ATG was integrated with Endeca which can create pages using Expirience Manager. Now usually you will buy a bundle ATG11 + Endeca.
You have few alternatives to that, usually paid extensions. First is using ATG Sitebuilder plugin delivered by a company called Spindrift. It extend BCC and gives you possibility to build pages from blocks.
Next paid is APF (ATG Portal Framework) from company AMG.net, it gives you possibility to manage pages and content of those pages with nice live editing tool.
Other solution is to create dedicated repository with HTML spinets and use simple ootb droplet (e.g. RepositoryLookup) to show that content.

Magento New Installation - Backend is working however frontend points to the old URL

Tried the recommendation on several threads. Here is the issue. The admin is working and updated the new DB fine. When you view the site from the frontend the product data, images, and links all point to the original site.
I Began by creating a new DB and importing a back up of the other Magento DB. The DB has a different name, the login and pw are different as well.
I modified the secure and unsecure URLs in the core_config_data table. I then installed a fresh copy of Magento (same version as my old site ver. 1.7.0.2).
I emptied the log tables which contained the old URL as well.
I looked at the local.xml file which had the correct settings.
Please keep in mind I have not added any source files from the old site. The olny thing that is from the old site is the DB.
Any other advice would be huge! Thanks in advance.
I never could get to the bottom of it. I simply uploaded fresh install of Magento and imported the data and it worked.

Developing with Azure Mobile Services?

What is currently the "best" way to develop a back-end system in Azure Mobile Services?
Specifically, what tools are available? From what I've seen, most examples just go to the Management portal and manually add a few lines into the script window. This is worse than using just Notepad, and doesn't have any concept of version control...
Is there any way to make a project in VS 2012 that contains all the Node.js code that will run in the Azure Mobile service? Is there a way of fully running that code on a local development environment that mimics the Mobile Services?
I need to have server-side code with much more complexity than is shown in most of the Mobile Services samples or documentation that I've been able to find.
I have a web site, and a Win 8 Store App that need to authenticate against, and access relatively complex data structures from a back-end database. The solution being pushed right now all seem to include Mobile Services at the center of it, using simple REST against raw tables, but all the examples are too simple to be useful.
Can someone point me to a "real-life" sample of using Mobile Services, and a "mature" way of developing and testing such a system using the tools in Visual Studio?

Why you have no other option than the Management portal is really beyond me. It seems very awkward for a C#/.NET developer to go back to Notepad style programming with console.log() debugging.
What I would love to see is some Node.js entry points that you could connect to a regular C# assembly which could fulfill the request (as in ASP.NET MVC or Web API) having the full .NET Framework at your disposal.
What I could see as a possible architecture is to have:
ASP.NET MVC hosted on Azure
--- writes processed data with logic to --->
Azure SQL DB <--- reads from --- Azure Mobile Services ---- bridge to ---> Mobile devices

Cloud Worker Role on Azure ---- crunching/processing ----> Azure SQL DB <---- reading/writing raw data ---- Azure Mobile Services ---- bridge to ---> Mobile devices
You can use the Mobile Services facility for mobile devices facilities, scheduling and push notifications with limited code and do most of the coding in a managed .NET environment.
The AMS (Azure Mobile Services) along with Azure has advanced dramatically since this post was written and the replied answers.
Some of this stuff still holds true. If you have a ton of node.js written not in the Azure cloud portal, you will want to copy and paste to the portal online, custom api calls section and even perhaps sql backend tables for CRUD operations.
The hope for C# developers is that it is NOW in preview mode in which YOU CAN skip node.js and build everything without node.js very shortly... Some bugs to work out, but in 6 months this will be fairly solid.
I had questions and issue and a guy named Carlos carlosfigueira was very helpful.

In this tutorial, he uses the Mocha testing framework for JS (id TDD mode) and walks through an example for testing an INSERT script that encrypts the value of a particular property (text) and a read script that decrypts it (value is encrypted at rest in SQL db).

I would suggest that you build this solution using Windows Azure Mobile solutions especially it supports the Node JS NPM right now, which means you can create the API you want on the Windows Azure using the Node JS NPM and can work with it using WAMS easily. have a look on the following link it will help you understand what I want to say more.

For running locally, the mobile service has the same Kudu environment available in azure websites, so you can browse to https://your_service_name.scm.azure-mobile.net If you navigate to the Debug Console from the top nav, you can download everything running in the site/wwwroot folder.
You can run this nodejs project locally (On windows only if you require the SQL Server npm package). Your code is in App_Data/config/scripts. If you replace the downloaded content with your current local git working copy, you can develop and debug locally, and then push changes as usual.
Tools I use:
Eclipse with JS environment (or any nodejs IDE).
Git
Postman
Steps:
Enable source control to your azure mobile service.
Pull to your local and create a eclipse project with the source.
Make changes and push.
Test with POSTman
This procedure allows me to develop really fast and eclipse tell me the common JS errors. But it has obvious downside:
No debugging (I use console.log)
The project ended up with a lot of commits (its hard to use git for proper source control)
I just did a blog post on running Azure Mobile Services locally: http://www.mikelanzetta.com/2014/09/running-azure-mobile-services-locally/ - basically it interrogates the API and starts up express, and allows you to run mocha yourself locally. It's a bit cleaner than pulling down the full wwwroot from the scm link, and I found using my local runner as a git submodule made it easy to work with (and easy for me to use VSO for managing my tests).
Anyway, for actual development, I use the Git integration and WebStorm - it automatically figures out the tasks in my local Gruntfile and makes it easy to run and test. For once it's deployed, Postman is helpful.

how can I set up a continuous deployment with TFSBuild for MVC app?

I have some questions around the best mechanism to deploy MVC web applications to different environments. Previously I used setup projects (.msi's) but as these have been discontinued in VS2012 I am looking to move to an alternative.
Let me explain my current setup. I currently have a CI setup using TFSBuild 2010 with Team Foundation Server for source control.
A number of developers work on their local machines and check in to the TFS Server. We regularly deploy to a single server dev environment and a load balanced qa environment with 2 servers. Our current process includes installing an msi which carries out some of the following custom actions:
brings current app offline with the app_offline.htm file
run in database scripts (from database project in the solution)
modifies web.config (different for each web server of qa)
labels the code
warmup each deployed file via http request
etc
This is the current process. Now I would like to make some changes. Firstly, I need alternative to msi's. From som research I believe that web deploy via IIS and using MsDeploy is the best alternative. I can use web config transforms for web config modifications. Is this correct and if so, could I get an outline of what I need to do?
Secondly I want to set up continuous delivery via TFSBuild, I have no idea how this may be achieved, would it be possible to get an outline of how it can be integrated in to my current setup? Rather than check in driven, I would like it to be user driven following check in. Also, would it be possible for this to also run in database scripts from a database project in the solution.
Finally, there is also a production environment, but I would like to manually deploy this - can my process also produce an artifact that I can manually install?
