Cannot send/receive mail on plesk server - email

I have just had to re-image my server and for some reason, when I do a test connection in outlook, it errors on both send/receive with could not connect to server.
I have checked that both postfix and courier-imap are running on the server and have restarted both just to make sure. I am using plesk 12 and have setup users for the email system, so would appreciate some guidance as to how I can troubleshoot this. Many thanks

Configure root#localhost mail on postfix dovecot postfixadmin virtual mail server using postgresql freebsd 12

Using freebsdI I setup a postfix, dovecot, postgresql and postfixadmin virtual email server. Everything is working to my satisfaction except email to root#localhost and my user email to localhost. Having done a lot of investigation and some trial I'm not finding the answer.
I looked at mydestination I have localhost listed, I think that is correct.
I tried adding localhost as a postfixadmin domain, this fails the x.x edit. localhost. does not work either. Don't really want to change code for obvious reasons. Localhost will resolve to the correct local ip 127.0.0.1.
Tried using mail to send root#localhost and get a dead.letter file with the message in it.
I am not a email server expert only the first time I've done this so much learning to do.
how do I solve this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Java Web application not sending Email on Ubuntu server

My play framework web application sends automatically emails to user using Apache commons email library, everything works fine on my machine, but when I deploy it on an Ubuntu server it is unable to send email.
It throws exceptions like org.apache.commons.mail.EmailException: Sending the email to the following server failed : smtp.googlemail.com:465 (I also tried different configuration with smtp.google.mail port 465,25 and 587 with or without ssl and tls)
and connection timed out.
I starting to believe that is a problem of some configuration of my ubuntu server.
Any suggestion?
If i type ufw status command I receive status disabled.
Thanks
I am going to close this question, because I found the solution. Basically my Server provider (Scaleway) has a security configuration where SMTP is blocked. I asked them to unlock It.

CentOS iptables and port configuration for using external SMTP server

I have a web server running CentOS and a separate mail server running Microsoft Exchange. I have the web server connecting to the mail server via SMTP on port 587 to send emails.
Sometimes the connection to the mail server refuses, but it's rare. Could an intermittent failure be related to port settings? I would have thought it's all or nothing.
For the CentOS web server, what rules should I be looking to configure in the iptables if any? Do I need to add an entry for port 587 on this server? Or do I just need to allow incoming connections on the mail server for 587?
Thanks in advance.
You don't need to set up any iptables rules on your webserver, since outgoing connections are allowed by default. Your occasional drops won't have anything to do with the webserver's firewall, so you'll want to look at tuning your Exchange server, if the error is impactful enough to worry about it.

CentOS Spam Troubleshot

I am having a problem in my server. It's sending a lot of spam emails out. I am using Exim, and i did all the possible Tweaks from WHM to prevent spamming. I already tried to find the source of these email, from what script they are coming from.
I tried with TCPdum and netstat.
The emails are going out from some cPanel user for example user1#servername.sdm.com (the server host name) not from user#samedomain.com.
Any idea or suggestion what can i check?
I already found the problem. I was monitoring with TCP dump the connections in port 25 and grepped the account what was spamming than i found what script was sending the emails by monitoring the Exim logs.

Receiving email with Amazon EC2?

I have no trouble sending out email with my EC2 server, but how can I check the email that is sent to me? I have an elastic IP setup and modified reverse DNS records. Do I need to install Postfix to receive email?
Ensure that port 25 is active and open on your server. Install an SMTP service on your instance ...postfix is mighty fine.
Ensure you have also set up some MX records if you want to receive email from the world...
I suppose the first thing to do is testing if you can open a telnet connection to port 25 on your server. Then you know if anything is listening for incoming mail.
If not, then you should probably install postfix as well as test your firewall settings (I seem to recall the EC2 having some sort of firewall setting for which ports to allow in the web interface)
edit: correct port number
