Eclipse ui: retrieving the first visible line of an editor - eclipse

In the Eclipse UI, I'd like to set the visible area in an editor. In other words, if the number of lines of my file is larger than the number of lines my editor can show then I want to specify the first shown line. My first approach was to calculate the first visible line via the selection value of its vertical scroll bar. The following link points to my initial question. Its answer explains how to set the first visible line in an editor.

The problem now is that my initial way of retrieving the first visible line in an editor fails in some cases: Although I verify that the active page is indeed an editor, the focus might be assigned to another page. In such a case, the following code yields the ScrollBar of a different page:

So, my question: If editor is the reference of an active editor (ITextEditor and IReusableEditor), how to I get its first visible line?

If you can access the editor ITextViewer or its extension ISourceViewer (usually implemented by the SourceViewer or TextViewer class) you can call the ITextViewer.getTopIndex() method to get the top line index.
If your editor is derived from AbstractTextEditor (or one of its subclasses such as TextEditor) there is a protected method getSourceViewer() that returns this. You may have to add a public method if you want to access this from outside of the editor.

How to add a "tutorial message div" to figures?

After installing R2018b, the first figure I opened contained an interesting message (shown in blue):
The reason it's interesting is because it contains features like text wrapping, transparency, the fact that the image maintains a constant width even though the text resizes (this reminded me of CSS3 flexbox, hence the tag), etc.
The last part of the animation is in slow motion, to better show how the div's size follows that of the figure.
In case it matters, I'm using Win 10 v1803.
Question:
I'd like to know how we can draw similar, custom, divs (for a lack of a better word) in our figures. (It's important to stress that this is not a UIFigure!)

however, making these controls invisible using set(h(2:end), 'Visible', false) didn't make the div disappear.
Saving the figure as .fig or generating code for it, doesn't leave any trace of this div.
When uiinspect-ing the figure, this div doesn't show (or at least, I couldn't find it).
I don't know what exactly I did to make it reappear once more, but since it's set to appear on the very first time you boot R2018b, I suspect deleting prefdir (obviously, after backing it up) and restarting MATLAB could bring it back.
The only thing I didn't try yet, is to attach a java debugger to MATLAB and attempt to trace the caller to com.mathworks.mlservices.MLHelpServices.setCurrentLocation (from mlservices.jar), which opens the help browser.
After some digging in the Java side of things (starting from findjobj, followed by a lot of .getComponent(0).getComponent(0)...), I've finally managed to locate the component in question. Here's what I learned:
This component is called InfoPanel, and is part of MATLAB's Java API. The class definition itself is found in:
MATLAB/R2018b/java/jar/hg.jar!/com/mathworks/hg/util/InfoPanel.class
To make it appear, we need to call the static method addBannerPanel, passing in a figure handle:
com.mathworks.hg.util.InfoPanel.addBannerPanel( figure(randi(1E4)) );
Or another signature that also accepts a custom panel:

The MATLAB setting that controls whether this should appear is showinteractioninfobar inside the <prefdir>/matlab.settings XML.
It appears that the "interesting parts" of InfoPanel are private, which means it allows barely any customization (mostly some colors; not the string or the icon), but it should be fairly easy to make a copy of this class and expose all elements we need.

javafx8 scenebuilder menu shows controls labeled for container object

When I place JavaFX object inside a container, for example some checkboxes inside an hbox:
The scenebuilder controls for each checkbox show the container object in the menu (and different settings are shown here depending on the actual container):
But changing the "margin" value here, for example, clearly affects the individual checkbox and not the HBox. For example, setting only the middle checkbox to have a left margin of 20 yields a change to only the middle checkbox:
So why is that menu area labeled with the container name? I fear I am missing some fundamental design aspect by not understanding this.
They are properties of the control that are specifically available when its parent is an HBox. They correspond to the static methods HBox.setXXX(node, value), e.g. HBox.setHgrow(...).
If you put the check box in an AnchorPane instead, for example, you would see "Anchor Pane Constraints" instead of "HBox Constraints" and you would have options including "TopAnchor", "LeftAnchor" etc., corresponding to the static AnchorPane.setXXX(node, value) methods.

How can I wrap contents of a textbox that's next to a picture control?

I have the following defined in Active Reports 8 (a picture control with a border--shape--next to textbox fields):
I have more textbox fields below the two defined here, but this is just to illustrate my issue.
Anyway, how do I get the first textbox to wrap without overlapping the second textbox like below?
When I get rid of the picture and shape on the left, everything wraps as expected.
This is actually a known issue and is caused when controls are placed adjacent to each other and one side of the control has a larger height as compared to the ones on the other. Considering your example, let's say the top textbox is TextBox1 and the bottom one is TextBox2. You can handle the BeforePrint event of the Detail section and resolve this issue. For example take a look at the code below:

How do you change the mouse over highlighting?

In GWT, I am using CellTable.
When you mouse over the CellTable it highlights each row.
How do change the behavior of the highlighting from the mouse over? Specifically:
change the color of highlighting
disable/enable
make it highlight only the specific grid item at your cursor (instead of the entire row)
( The current hack I have is to create a bunch of 1 column wide CellTables and add them to a VerticalPanel layout... creating the illusion that there is one CellTable and it highlights each grid according to your cursor. Is this bad? Why? performance? )
You will notice the CellTable uses a ResourceBundle, which means all the css styles get obfuscated ... this makes it more difficult to override styles.
The CellTable constructor will actually allow you to override the default ResourceBundle. So first, you need to create your own resource bundle like this:

Then you need to create your own CSS file. I recommend copying the CellTable style directly into your project and use that as a starting point. You can find it here:

Make sure the style is injected first, and then you just feed it into the CellTable's constructor like this:

Specifically, you'll want to tweak these styles:

It is important to note that the cell table differentiates between the 'selected row' and the 'keyboard selected row'. The selected row is the actual row selected (ie via SelectionModel). The keyboard selected row refers to what is highlighted when the user is pressing the up / down key, but does not mean the row is actually selected (if that makes sense).
I'll just add for number 2) on your list, you can simply do
cellList.setSkipRowHoverStyleUpdate(true)
That completely disables highlighting. There are also two more setSkip-functions on CellList related to hovering.
CellTable can be styled via CSS: How do I style a gwt 2.1 CellTables headers?
To disable highlighting just set the hover CSS property to nothing.
Possibly - try tweaking the .cellTableSelectedRow and .cellTableSelectedRowCell.

Drawing into an Eclipse editor

I am trying to draw some shapes (boxed ans arrows) into, i.e., "over" the text in an eclipse editor. To get started, I wrote the following code:

The problem with this code is twofold: (1) The line is drawn not across the editor but across the entire workbench, i.e., Eclipse window, and (2) the line is drawn behind (!) all other controls like toolbars and editors. This causes the line to be almost invisible: it only shows at some pixels between other controls.
How can I draw a line across a control like a text editor in Eclipse?
The problem that you have is that you are getting the Shell, not the actual component for the editor. The Shell is the whole window where Eclipse is being shown.
I think the only solution is to create your own Editor implementation, and then in the createPartControl() method you can create a text area and then add the paint listener to it.
You can get started with:

And then, looking at the source code of AbstractTextEditor, you can find the "real" SWT component that you want to draw to. You would need to override the method that creates the UI components, copy the original code and add your custom painting.
I'm not sure if it works, but you need to extend the TextEditor:

That should at least get you the basic text-drawing control of the editor. Still, it's a PITA to work with these classes, as it is very internal stuff from eclipse, and neither documented nor really extensible.
