Using UILexicon to implement autocorrect in iOS 8 Keyboard Extension - swift

I've seen that this question has been asked a few times, but no one seems to have an answer. I am trying to create an autocorrect feature on a custom keyboard, but I am completely lost as to how to do so. Apple gives some documentation, but it's not very detailed. I know it has something to do with UILexicon data, but I'm not sure what to do with it and how to use it to correct strings of text the user is typing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are asking a very difficult question. In short, there is no built in access to autocorrect on iOS8; there is also no access to the APIs on iOS that allow the system to do things like show the red 'possible error' underline effect, or to other aspects of the system autocorrect behaviour, such as the in-place suggestion dialog (on iOS 7, or if you do not have the suggestions bar visible) or the 'will correct' blue background (on iOS 8).

what you can do is write your own autocorrect engine, from scratch, including both your own text processing and analysis and your own user-interface idioms. This has to all be done with the limitation that you are not able to draw outside of your keyboard's bounds, and you cannot modify anything else on screen. A number of third-party keyboards do this, such as minuum and swiftkey (disclaimer: I work on minuum) but it is a non-incidental amount of work. If you're interested in playing around with this, a good place to start might be the built in UITextChecker class, although auto-correction is ultimately a problem distinct from spell-checking.
UILexicon is only useful once you've already implemented things; all that it really offers you is a list of words that you can use to supplement whatever dictionary you're using, as well as to implement any text shortcuts your user might have added in their system settings. It is not, on its own, enough to build an auto-correction system from.

I'm not sure of the correct name, but I am wondering how to create (in Objective-C) a transparent notification "window/panel", such as is shown when you change the volume intensity, or keyboard illumination, or display brightness. I want to put my own icon/text on it, for my own notification.
I don't know the words to Google for, so I'm asking here.

After looking into using the solutions provided by the other two given answers, I found that they would not work for my purposes. So, I wrote up my own library:

What is the use of undo manager? How to use it?

What is the need of undo manager in iphone? I never see such buttons in sample programs. I know the meaning and the use of undo & redo. But my question here is, For which purpose, i need it? How to use it in my application? Also suggest a good example code link if you know...

Undo is used in many apps, including most or all of the Apple built-in ones wherever text editing occurs. Type or change some text in Mail or Safari and then shake your phone; you'll see an AlertView pop up asking you if you'd like to undo your text change.

How to Create the Highlight/Note Popup Buttons from the iPhone Kindle

I am wondering how Amazon did the highlight/note popup buttons in the Kindle app. After reading about UIPasteboard, UIMenuController, UIResponder, and UIResponderStandardEditActions, I am able to turn on or off standard edit actions (i.e. copy, cut, paste, select, and selectAll). However I haven't found a way to add a custom action yet. I would really appreciate it if I could get a pointer.

It looks like Amazon implemented their own custom view that mimicked the appearance of UIMenuController. I believe they did this rather than use SPI because if you click and hold on the Highlight cell, the arrow does not highlight, when it does in the real UIMenuController.
I don’t think there is a public interface to these controls, you’d probably have to code them yourself. (Or maybe figure out the private API, but that’s a slippery slope.) I am not sure about that, though, maybe somebody will prove me wrong.
That's a good point about the arrow part of the Notes/Highlight popup menu not highlighting, so they must be implementing their own.
However they are also obviously using a UIWebView, because it's recognizing tap and hold and they can highlight the text, and you can't get touch events from a UIWebView, much less get the information about what's selected. So how are they doing that?
This would be very useful for us to be able to do as well.

Custom menu items can be added via the UIMenuController's menuItems property. See Apple's UIMenuController docs.
the javascript part can be managed with jQuery, that's a fair simple and powerful library. i'm using it for resizing and rearranging things in a webview and it works great :)

Is there an iPhone equivalent to the NSTokenField control?

In my app I want the user to type names into a UITextField (or equivalent) and then when they press return, it will put that word(s) in a blue bubble that's usually associated with tags. The cursor then moves to the end where they can add more "tags".
This can be seen when adding contacts in the To, CC & BCC fields in the Mail app, and also when selecting contacts in the Messages app.
How is this done? Is it something that's provided in the UIKit or available somewhere else?

The equivalent control in desktop Cocoa is an NSTokenField, but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for Cocoa Touch.
Since iOS 13 there exists UISearchTextField.

You can see that component in action in the Photos App.
That should fit for many use cases. By removing the leftView you can also get rid of the search icon.
But be aware: You can‘t mix text and tokens at various positions.

Feel free to check out TaggerKit (a library I made), it's more or less what OP was talking about. You can basically add tags functionality to your app by just adding a view and a couple of properties.
I dont think you can do it with any built in functionality in the SDK, never seen such a feature. What you could do however is implement it yourself, have some custom blue button with some text over it, and when the user hits return you can have some code that takes the text and returns you the button that you need, shouldnt be too bad to implement

Creating GTK Widget Using Expander

Stripping the arrow is quite trivial. Just append the following code to you $HOME/.gtkrc-2.0 (or create it if not found):

This is done by customizing the appearance using resource files. You can get the same result programmatically by changing the GtkExpander style properties.
Furthermore, you can connect your own callback to its "activate" signal and switch the background color of the widget whenever is active or not. And a lot more...
Just remember someone loves to have a consistent user interface.
If what you want is to duplicate the look, then there are two very inefficient solutions to the problem:
Write your own GTK theme engine (see Murrine or Clearlooks).
Replace your entire program by a GtkDrawingArea widget and use Cairo to draw exactly the look you want. You'll be on your own then, though, so you'll have to write all your widget placement algorithms, buttons, expanders, menus, and whatnot, from scratch.
GTK isn't really meant for this sort of thing. The whole point of GTK is that you design your user interface with the standard widgets, and they just work with whatever theme, language, or accessibility technologies your users need to use. If you design your own look and there's no way to change it, then someone with color blindness or poor eyesight won't be able to use it. Or the text will get all misaligned if someone uses your application in another language. Or at the very least, maybe someone just likes a black desktop with white lettering, and your application will stick out and look really ugly on that user's computer. If you really need to make it look exactly that way, then probably GTK isn't the right tool for you.
