"Could not parse configuration file..." when I add EF6 to a solution - entity-framework

I get an error when I add EF6 to a solution. I think it also happens when I update the model from the database. The error shows up in the Output window right after I add EF: "Could not parse the configuration file. The error message is: 'Library not registered. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8002801D (TYPE_E_LIBNOTREGISTERED))' Try editing the file manually and then saving it."
The "error" doesn't seem to have any influence on the compiling or running of the application (or the function of EF). However, an error like this is always disturbing when it's with the technology that is supposed to be the linchpin of your data management strategy.

I believe that I have discovered the problem. I can repro it on my development machine and a couple of other dev machines.
I am using VS 2013. The solution that I was using included a second project, a setup/deployment project, InstallShield Limited Edition Project. If I remove that project, the errors go away.
If I create a new project, add EF via Nuget, add an EF model to the solution and then add this setup project I can repro the error. If you try it yourself, just remember you need to open VS and the solution, open the model in the designer, click anywhere in the whitespace of the design surface, the error should pop up in the Output. The details are up there in an earlier post.

Error when adding views to MVC .NetCore project

I am very new to EntityFramework development, not to mention to .NetCore and MVC design pattern, I actually started with .NetCore development with a introduction book to those subjects, I reached a chapter where the autor starts with an MVC project (still using .NetCore 2.0) and do Scaffolding to create the EF model based on a Database previously created, then he jumps to add a controller via wizard, chosing the option that says: "MVC Controller with views, using Entity Framework", but when I do this, a get the error:
"There was an error running the selected code generator: ' Failed to
update dependency information for the project. Please restore the
project and try again."
I tried adding this files manually and detected that this happens when I try (or the wizard tries) to create the view file, either using an empty template or using one of the models, the result is the same.
I thought it was for the NuGet packages that where "asking" for updates, so I updated them, but nothing changed, I recreated the project several times, trying to leave the NuGet packages versions that the autor mentions to install, and to have "everything up to date" but still got the same.
I found another question in here with the same problem, and tried the possible solutions that mentions there, but none worked for me, I even try to install the versions 2.0.0 (or the lowest if there where no version 2.0.0) of the NuGet packages needed (or rather, mentioned by the author), and there was a change, still an error, but a different one, that says that the Microsoft.AspNetCore.Razor.Design.targets file needs a value on Configuration...?, still not know what to do, I noticed that updating 3 packages eliminates this error but is going back to the views error.
I don't know what else can I do or how to address this problem.
I finally made it work, although at the end, I don't know what was the problem, what I did was to uninstall all the NuGet packages, then reinstall one by one, chosing the 2.0.0 versions of each one (or the lowest if there was no 2.0.0 version) until there where no sintax errors (by the way, I already had done this, but I don't know what changed) and ended up with 13 packages installed, after verifying that the project builds correctly, I tried again to add via wizard the controller and the view and it threw another error asking to update just two packages (EntityFrameworkcore and EntityFrameworkCore.Design) to versions 2.0.3, after that, I was able to add both the controller and the views with no problem at all and the project still builds correctly.

System.Resources.MissingManifestResourceException when Updating database

I moved a web application I am working on from one machine to another. It is built using .Net MVC and Entity Framework but when I execute the Update-Database command so that the database is updated, I get this error:
Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "NameofMigration.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "NameofProject" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed.
Does anyone know how to fix this error?
I had a similar issue when the resx part of the migration was not included in the project file when a fellow developer checked the project in (probably due to a merge issue). You may find that the resx file is there but greyed out. If it's there, try right clicking the "NameofMigration.resx" file and selecting "include in project". If it's not there, you better go find it on the other machine and add it to the project :-)
I think the issue (one issue) is that the .resx file is added as "dependent upon" (nested under) the .cs file, and the way the build engine works, "dependent upon" changes the name that an embedded resource is saved with (something like, it changes from being based on the filename to being based on the type name; I've dealt with this in other scenarios but can't remember for sure).
This leads to problems when using SDK .csproj files, for some reason (I guess that by default SDK .csproj does not change the resource name in this situation, but the migrations system expects it to).
As someone else had posted, SDK .csproj can use the following tag to change the embedded resource naming scheme for "dependent upon" resources, which then allows the migrations system to find the embedded resource:
<EmbeddedResourceUseDependentUponConvention>
true
</EmbeddedResourceUseDependentUponConvention>
This should go in a <PropertyGroup> of your SDK .csproj file.
For VS 2017, the solution is as follows:
Go to the project file, and for all of the migrations, apply the following format:
<Compile Include="Migrations\201804251606403_emailsWithEffort.cs" />
<Compile Include="Migrations\201804251606403_emailsWithEffort.Designer.cs">
<DependentUpon>201804251606403_emailsWithEffort.cs</DependentUpon>
</Compile>
<EmbeddedResource Include="Migrations\201804251606403_emailsWithEffort.resx">
<DependentUpon>201804251606403_emailsWithEffort.cs</DependentUpon>
</EmbeddedResource>
I guess that the problem is when changing version(s) of Visual Studio, old format of describing dependencies stays, and the Visual Studio 2017 can not interpret it correctly.
Hence, applying the format as described above (change your format to this), you can make the Visual Studio get the idea of where it's resources are.
Slightly different situation, where I created a new environment, and database, and received the above error message.
For my fix, I had to right-click on the migration files (initial and resx) and set property to embedded as resource. Update-database command ran fine afterward.
I encountered the same issue (VS 2017) and none of the solutions provided here worked. I fixed the problem by cleaning the solution and manually deleting the bin folder and then building it again.
If anybody wants to look into the source or compiler to know why this is happening; I don't feel like it right now. After an hour of tinkering, my resolution is odd.
Granted, I shouldn't have done this in the first place, but for quick code I temporarily added classes into the same file as my generated DbMigration 201906212110305_initial.cs. The mere existence of those temporary classes in the same file caused this error. As soon as I moved them to their own file (which I was going to do all along anyway) the runtime error vanished.
Unloading and then reloading migration file worked for me!

Entity Framework 4 CTP 5 Code First Development

I am trying to do some tests using EF4 + CTP5 with code first development by writing POCO classes and have faced the following problems
Connecting to existing database throws me the exception:
Model compatibility cannot be checked because the database does not contain model metadata
While I can create a new database from code by giving a new file name in a connection string, not able to open the file (database) using the Management Studio after running few tests against, the Management studio doesn't allow to add the file when trying to attach the database with no specific error detail provided.
For #1, did you try adding the following to your global.asax?
Database.SetInitializer<CustomContextNameHere>(null);
where "CustomContextNameHere" is your context object.
As far as #2 goes, I am assuming you mean the default ASPNETDB.MDF file. Have you tried opening the file with the Server Explorer in VS? It may open right up if you double-click on it in the solution.

Workspace is closed error

I have created a EMF model and generated a model code for that. I have created one plugin project and i have created one class named as 'CommandTest' which is having "public static void main()" method which reads mymodel resource file.
Its working fine in eclipse 3.5.2. There is no issues am able to read the contents.
But same thing am running through command prompt, am getting error "Workspace is closed". I have included my plugin folder in my classpath.
I have used one statement resource.load(null). In this line am getting "IllegalStateException: Workspace is closed".
I want to run my project in commandline not in eclipse environment. I have searched this problem in internet, i can able to find some solutions but its all related to eclipse environment.
If anything am doing wrong in this following statement
====Code Snippet======
file = "C:\temp\mytemp.xml";
// Creating resource
XMLResource resource = (XMLResource) new MyModelResourceFactoryImpl().createResource(
URI.createURI(file.toURI().toString(), true));
resource.load(null);
=======================
Is it possible to run plugin project in commandline? if it is possible could any one guide me how to achieve this to avoid "workspace is closed" error?
Did you try to specify a workspace with the -data <workspace-path> command line switch? You could try as well to call Plugin.getStateLocation().
