Hey so I made a crows foot database ERD in Visio 2013 at home and now am trying to open the .VSDX file in Visio 2010 at work and I get an error message saying the file is corrupt or is not a visio file.
The file can't be corrupt as I used it just fine at home and it obviously is a Visio file. Is there some type of update or extension I can install to fix this?
You can download the Compatibility Pack, see this KB:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2844302
The compatibility pack itself is here:

What solved this for me......I was using Office 2013 with Visio 2013. Went to Firefox menu (3 hash marks on far right) > options > application > type visio in the search bar > it pulled up ms-visio as content type and I changed the action from "use Microsoft Visio" to Use "Microsoft Office 2013" - there was no save or close, but the changes were accepted. Closed the tab for options and tried to open Visio and it worked!
You should open the file in visio 2013 first then
from file menu choose save as
then from save as type choose 2003-2010 drawing
click ok
The new file now is can be opened using Visio 2010.

A number of my Visio 2016 diagrams appear corrupt after a recent Windows 10 and/or Office update. It seems to particularly affect the Azure icons. Any suggestions?
Here's a snippet from one of my corrupt diagrams:
This is how the diagram should look:
I can edit the text with no issues. The word before "Data Warehouse" has been scrubbed my me in both images as it's a product name.
Enabling the checkbox "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" in the Options > Advanced menu fixed this for me:
I'm using VS 2015 and TFS 2013 update 4.
I was able to see the name of person who last modified/updated and so on above
method classes but right now it just show author names which are in Unicode by question mark
What's the problem?
Updated:
Now all of Unicode charecters are gone even in c# files
Close all instances of Visual Studio.
Delete all the cached data in the folder %localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio Services\6.0\
Restart Visual Studio and re-open the solution from TFS.
Please try:
1). Add the author name's language in Control Panel.
2). Open that file with "CSharp Editor with Encoding".
3). Reset VS to the default settings: devenv /ResetSettings
I found the solution
Tools ====> options ===> Environment ====> show settings for : CodeLens
and then changed Font type to tahoma.
I check vs on other machines the font on others were sets to calibri but Unicode characters displayed correctly

How do I change the font and color for CodeLens?
A: Go to Tools, Options, Environment, Fonts and Colors.
I have recently updated to Visual Studio 2015. Opened up my solution and works. Till I decided to add in an entity to my edmx. So I double-clicked on the edmx file to open the diagram like it should or maybe the model browser at least but it only opens an XML page. I checked any missed installation from the setup but didn't find anything about entity framework there. I tried to create a test solution and create another edmx but ADO.NET entity is missing as well. What is going on? Am I going to revert back to Visual studio 2013?
For me, the sequence was:
Double-click the .edmx file
Right click any white space in the opened diagram
Click Model Browser in the context menu that appears
If it opens as XML then it means that eventually XML Text Editor is set as default program to open edmx file. You can follow these steps to open in ADO.NET Entity Data Model Designer
right click on your edmx file
and select open with and select the option as show in below image.

Alternate solution as the upvoted answer didn't work for me in VS2017:
Under the menu bar ribbon -
Select 'View'
Select 'Other Windows'
Select 'Entity Data Model Browser'
I have an MSDN subscription and I've installed Visio 2013. I am not able to activate the product and it has reduced to a read-only state.
Any attempts to activate or "Switch Account" are met with "Sorry, we are having some temporary server issues." I've found a few posts referencing removing an office-related key from the registry but this has not helped.
At one point I believe I'd also heard that our network might be blocking activation, but don't have a handle on how that would be coming into play exactly (if at all).
Have others encountered and (hopefully) found a fix to this issue?
Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Microsoft Visio Professional 2013
Right click on Microsoft Visio Professional 2013 and click on "Change"
Then select "Enter a Product Key" and supply your 25 digit licence key to activate.
Here is a little more detail on the Control Panel/Programs and Features method for entering product codes.
This worked with Office 2010 previously installed and then a later Visio 2013 Pro installation that didn't provide the activation dialog.
In Programs and Features
Right click Microsoft Visio Professional 2013
You'll see Uninstall (default) and Change. Select Change
You'll get a dialog with these options
Add or Remove Features
Repair
Remove
Enter a Product Key (voila!)
Select Product Key and the rest goes as expected.
Footnote: I spend 45 minutes in six conversations with four different Microsoft support teams trying to fix this. None knew how to address the issue.
I had the same problem. To activate I had to go to "Control Panel\Programs and Features\Microsoft Visio Professional 2013" and choose the "repair" option; you will be asked to insert your product key. Now my Visio is activated and I can create new diagrams, but I continue having problems using online options.
If your system is an offline computer, you will need to call the MS Support Center and give them your code which shows on your screen. Then in return enter the long string of digits they give you back.
I want to know why does Microsoft word don't allow multiple instance of a file. Say i have opened something.doc, once it has opened then i clicked the file something.doc again it doesn't open another instance but opens the existing instance of the file. I would love to have a concrete reading material about this. Can anyone provide? thanks a lot!
Doesn't seem like an issue to me but just a settings problem as illustrated on some forumns. Try doing the below hack which if for Office 2007:
My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
File Types
Choose XLS
Go to Advanced
Uncheck "browse in same window" in advanced window.
Then highlight Open
Edit
Make sure in the Action box it says &Open
Make sure in the application used to perform action it says:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE" "%1"
Check the box next to use DDE
Remove anything that is in DDE Message box and DDE Application Not Running box.
Make sure the application box says: EXCEL
And in the Topic box it says: System
