[Disclaimer: first post, so please excuse me if the question is not properly formulated]
Given the recent local "Datenschutz" (Privacy) laws in Germany, does anyone know whether Google Storage provides an option to guarantee storage inside Germany, with a specific regional bucket, like e.g. AWS does (location in Frankfurt)?
Sorry, no. There is not currently a regional bucket option for Germany.
You can see a current list of regional bucket offerings here: https://cloud.google.com/storage/docs/regional-buckets

I don't have a working code at this point but am looking for a strategy/direction on using google drive for storing data, either SLQ lite or anything else. What I want to store is primarily the data which will have a to do list and a percentage number of task that a user has finished per day. I wanted to use users own Google Drive account to store data. I am using Flutter to develop the app. Any pointers or suggestion for this approach would or even an alternate approach will help.
Note: I am not inclined to use any cloud storage solutions at this point, as that will incur costs later on if not now.
I am wondering whether we can use UBER API to figure out the number of drivers for a given location.
Our Need is to figure out the loaded areas where we have more people than others. To this end, we thought on different apps among them UBER which can also give an idea on how many people are on a given location.
Any help whether the UBER API can provide such information with exact location (longitude latitude). Our need, in terms of data, is to have a dataset for different exact locations showing the exact live ocation of drivers for a given city on a specific period of time.
Thank you in advance.
No, this is not available. Please see the docs here for the 3 endpoints on the driver API (none of which provide real-time availability / location): https://developer.uber.com/docs/drivers/introduction
Our Dev's are asking what are the limitations placed on repositories and I am not finding any solid information. I have found some posts saying it is "basically" unlimited.
Based on this blog: How much data can you put on VSOnline? It’s based on the Blog store and Meta-data store (SQL azure database) and they are increasing, two years ago, the size can be 6.6TB -31.5TB (check the comment)
I am using Amazon S3 service in my project and I put the region as shown below in my code:
region: 'ap-southeast-1',
because am from Malaysia and Singapore is the nearest.
Now I want to host my Database using MongoLab but they only provide 4 options for the region, as it is shown in the picture below
Can I still host my database on MongoLab or should I look for an alternative?
Sydney would be the closest geo for you. Technically the turnaround time should not be drastically different. MLab is a pretty solid solution, as it's used by a wide range of industry leaders. Considering that your Singapore AWS instance will be transacting with Sydney, it's not really that much of latency AFAIK
Singapore and Mumbai are fairly recent locations in AWS. You can hope for MLab open up data centers in SE Asia sometime soon considering the booming emerging economies and then migrate your data at that point. As of now, Sydney seems to be your best bet, if you want to go for a hosted solution
I am trying to help witth rescue operations in Nepal.
I have setup a Google Form here and that information gets stored on a Google Sheet.
Now, I want to provide a map (OSM) that would autopopulate using data in the Google Sheet (there is a column with GPS coordinates.
Is this currently do-able? It would be ideal if I could provide an endpoint where various OSM maps could get the Google Sheet information from.
Thanks in advance.
You can use Leaflet or OpenLayers to place markers and popups on top of OSM maps. uMap might also be worth looking at.
Additionally there is also the Humanitarian OSM Team (HOT) doing various tasks for helping the Nepal rescue teams. The 2015 Nepal earthquake wiki contains an overview, guidelines and specific tasks. It might be useful to discuss your ideas with HOT.
In short, no. I've been in communication with Google about this. It's currently not a feature, and they have no plans to add this feature in the future.
And I, for one, desperately need such a feature! I'd imagine if thousands of us flooded Google with requests for this feature -- maybe they'd add it?
