In by program execv(parent_process) is called and parent_process does fork and exits .
when does execv() execution is completed. Will it be after child completion or immediately after parent_process completion.
In my program i what it be exited immediately after parent_process completion.

I am running into a problem of a task exiting with a null exit code. And with this exit code, I noted that I can't access files on node to check the stderr and stdout files. What could be the problem? Also, what does a null exit code mean and how can I set the exit code to be not nullin case of failure?

You will want to check the task's failureInfo field within the executionInfo property.
There is a difference between task failure and application logic failure for the process (command to execute) that is executed under the task. A task failure can be a multitude of things such as a resource file for a task failing to download. A process failing to launch properly for some reason is also a task failure. However, if the process does launch and execute, but the process itself "fails" (as per application logic) and returns a non-zero exit code and no other issues are encountered with the task, this task will have the proper exit code saved. Thus, if a task completes with a null exit code, you will need to consult the failureInfo field as per above along with any stdout/stderr logs if they exist.
Basically i have scheduled a task in windows task scheduler.
In the task i have scheduled a powershell script
in the program/script path we have given powershell path and in the argument path we have given
-command "& C:\Users\xxxx\Desktop\1.PS1"
I was checking if the task fails or not on powershell script failure.
so the powershell script is getting failed but the last run status says
"The operation completed successfully"
How to configure my task such that it will return fail if powershell script does not run successfully?

I have 3 tasks(all 3 are powershell scripts having parameters)
basically i have created a custom trigger for task 2 and task 3
i.e if task1 is success then the task 2 will be triggered and if task 2 is success then task3 will be triggered.
while testing the above scenario, evenif the powershell script used in task 2 returns error(intentionally done error in code to check the scenario), the last run status says the operation completed successfully and the task 3 task getting triggered
Instead of the current situation, why do you not have 3 Scheduled Tasks.
The first runs the first script, and if the script itself deems itself successful, runs the 2nd Scheduled Task itself?
For example, using Start-ScheduledTask (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj649818(v=wps.630).aspx).
This way, each of your scripts could check themselves for issues, and if none are found, can call the next task. This has the additional bonus of letting you have full control over which scheduled task to run, and when.
Based on the comments in this thread and my own testing, it sounds like it's not possible to get the scheduled task to log itself as failed by the failure of the script because the purpose of the task is to kick off the program, which it does successfully.
However, it is possible to return an exit code to the scheduled task. The exit code will be logged in the event history (Information Level). As stated in this thread, the return code must be referenced in the parameters with which the scheduled task calls the script:

I'm running two Perl scripts in parallel in Jenkins

wait

If one of the perl scripts fail in the middle of the execution , the job waits until the other script runs (as it is executed in parallel in background).
I want the job to stop as soon as one of the script fails and not waste time by completing the execution of other script.
Please help.
You set up a signal handler for SIGCHLD, which is a signal that is always delivered to the parent process when a child exits. I'm not aware of a mechanism to see which child process exited, but you can save the subprocess process identifiers and just kill both of them when you receive SIGCHLD:

trap "kill $pid1 $pid2" CHLD

The script above has the downside that it will kill the other script regardless of the exit status of the subprocess. You could in the trap, if you want to, add a check for the exit status. The subprocess could e.g. create some temp file if it succeeds and the trap could check if the file exists.
Typically with Jenkins you would have the parallel steps running as separate jobs (or projects as they are sometimes known) rather than steps in a job. This would then allow the steps to run in parallel across different slave machines and it would keep the output for the jobs in a separate place.
You would then have a controlling job running the other parts.
I like the Multijob plugin for this sort of thing.
There are alternatives which may suit better, such as Build Flow Plugin which uses a DSL to describe the jobs you want to run
I have a c# program, integrated with a command line program. I want to run the command line program twice(start, finish, start again, finish again). Now I use a timer to set a special time period for every run, for example, give first run 10 seconds, no matter it is finished or not, after 10 seconds, the program starts the second run.
I want the second run can run automatically after the fist run finshed, How to do it? How to detect the first run is finished, and then take a trigger to start the second run?

I have an executable which can run perl scripts using the following command at the prompt:
blah.exe Launch.pl
The way we have our tests setup is that we call the Launch.pl from Parent.pl like this "blah.exe Launch.pl" - script within script. However, when executing the command with backticks/system command the parent .pl script execution waits till I get the handle back by closing and exiting out of the application (blah.exe). At this point the code in parent.pl continues to execute.
How do I return the handle back to the parent .pl script after I get done running the code that is contained in the Launch.pl
So, parent.pl calls "blah.exe Launch.pl"; but after running the code inside Launch.pl inside the application (blah.exe) it just sits there waiting to be exited out of so that the code in parent.pl can continue running. I need to keep the application (blah.exe) open till I am done running a bunch of scripts one after another.
Run blah.exe in the background. When you are done with the Parent.pl, terminate the application with kill.
