I'm a Crystal newbie with limited experience at SQL commands.
Here's my problem.
My database stores dates in the yyyymmdd numeric format. I created a Date Range parameter field to allow the user to select a date range. When I try to add the {?Date Range} to the record selection I get an error message that says "A number range is required here", apparently because my {?Date Range} field is looking for a date and not a number. I believe what I have to do is convert my dates to a date format, but I don't know how to do that.
Could someone please tell me how to make this work?

I don't have Crystal around to check the syntax , but generally you need to convert the daterange to numeric values and use theese values in your record selection formula
the TO value will be
tonumber(totext(Maximum({?ParameterDateRange}),'yyyyMMdd'))
the FROM value will be
tonumber(totext(Minimum ({?ParameterDateRange}),'yyyyMMdd'))
so the formula might be something like
{YourField} IN tonumber(totext(Minimum ({?DateRange}),'yyyyMMdd')) TO tonumber(totext(Maximum({?DateRange}),'yyyyMMdd'))
You can also use < and > instead of between
you can use CDate fucntion to convert numeric to Date.
CDate(ToNumber(Mid(ToText(20141231),1,4)),ToNumber(Mid(ToText(20141231),5,2)),ToNumber(Mid(ToText(20141231),7,2)))

I am working on a report that I need to add a date range parameter. The field that I need to use in the datetime field, and I need to use the date portion from the field. I tried using the following, but the report returns no result.
cast(StartDateTime as date) between {?StartDate} and {?EndDate}
For the time being, I am using the Select Expert to sort the date range, but I have to manually enter the date in 'yyyy-mm-dd' format. Is there a way to set up the parameter, so that I can use the calendar to choose the dates?
I recommend to use one parameter field and set it to range and date instead of two.
With this you can use easily this formula:
{StartDateTime} = {?Parameter}
If you set the Parameter to Date instead of DateTime it will automatically check with the start of the day for the first range and the end of the day for the last range.
I have table ABC in which I have column Z of datatype Date. The format of the data is YYYYMMDD. Now I am looking to convert the above format to YYYY-MON-DD format. Can someone help?
You can use to_char
TO_CHAR(Z,'YYYY-MON-DD')
Depending on what the purpose of the reformatting is, you can either explicitly cast it to a VARCHAR/CHAR and define the format, or you can change your display format to however you'd like to see all dates:
ALTER SESSION SET DATE_OUTPUT_FORMAT = 'YYYY-MON-DD';
It's important to understand that if the data is in a DATE field, then it is stored as a date, and the format of the date is dependent on your viewing preferences, not how it is stored.
Since the value of the date field is stored as a number, you have to convert it to date.
ALTER SESSION SET DATE_OUTPUT_FORMAT = 'YYYY-MON-DD';
select to_date(to_char( z ), 'YYYYMMDD');

The question stated that column Z is of type DATE, but it really seems to be a NUMBER.
Then before parsing a number like 20201017 to a date, first you need to transform it to a STRING.
Once the original number is parsed to a date, it can be represented as a new string formatted as desired.

SELECT TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(TO_CHAR(z), 'YYYYMMDD'), 'YYYY-MON-DD')

I am trying to change the date format for one of my field to dd/MM/yyyy but every time I used the below expression I get dd/MM/yyyy as the value in the cell instead of changing the format.
The data source that I am using is Teradata.
Expression used: =Format(FormatDateTime(Fields!DATE.Value, DateFormat.ShortDate),"dd/MM/yyyy")
Can some one help me with where am I going wrong.

The FormatDateTime function returns a string instead of a date. When the FORMAT function tries to format it, it doesn't find a date field so it returns the characters in the format.
If your field is a date, you should be able to format the field without conversion:
=Format(Fields!DATE.Value,"dd/MM/yyyy")
If it does need to be converted first, try using the CDATE function:
=Format(CDATE(Fields!DATE.Value),"dd/MM/yyyy")
Tableau is reading my dates wrong. I have 2 columns, Date and number for each day.
The date format is “yyyymmdd” i.e. (20160617) and per day number is integer. I am fetching this data directly from SQL server and my problem is, tableau is reading my dates wrong.
So I tried DATEPARSE() to convert my date.
My DATEPARSE function is : DATEPARSE(“yyyymmdd”,”Date”) , now after using DATEPARSE function, I get NULL for my dates.
Can anyone please help me why I get NULL for dates, my query returns 30-day data which is divided into per day count.
Sample after running the query on SQL

20160617 215674
Tableau does not accept this date format and I applied DateParse(), which I guess is returning string since my date is null. I would ideally like to get the correct date so I can apply a trend line on my data.

You aren't using DateParse() correctly. The second parameter, which you have as "Date", should be the name of the field you want parsed. So for example, if you store 20160617 in a field called my_date_as_integer, your function should be DateParse("yyyymmdd", [my_date_as_integer])
I have imported some data into SAS from some Excel spreadsheets sent to me. When I view the output from the imported table, the date appears as "01APR2014" and maintains chronological order. When I view the column properties the type is "Date" and the length is 8. Both the format and informat are DATE9.
I need to be able to convert this date to week-year and month-year, but no matter what I try I always get Jan, 1960.
Using proc sql, I used the below to get the week-year,
"(put(datepart(a.fnlz_date),weeku3.))|| "-" ||(put(datepart(a.fnlz_date),year.)) as FNLZD_WK_YR,"
but all I got was "W00-1960". I've used the formula above successfully many times before with SAS datetime values.
For month-yr, using proc sql, I tried
"datepart(a.fnlz_date) as DT_FNLZD format=monyy.,"
but the only value returned is "JAN60".
I also tried using SUBSTR, but got an error saying it requires a character argument, so SAS must see it as a number at least.
My question; does anyone know a way to get the week-yr and/or month-yr from this format? If so, how? I'm not opposed to using a data step, but I haven't been able to get that to work either.

datepart converts datetimes to dates. Not helpful here.
If you're just displaying this, then you have a few options, particularly for month. You can just change the format of the variable (This changes what's displayed, but not the underlying value; consider this a value label).
When you use this like this (again, it looks like you got most of the way there):
proc sql;
select datevar format=monyy5. from table;
quit;
Just don't include that datepart function call as that's not appropriate unless you have a datetime. (Date=# of days since 1/1/1960, Datetime = # of seconds since 1/1/1960:00:00:00).
That will display it with MONYY5. format, which would be MAY10 for May, 2010. You have some other format options, see the documentation on formats by category for more details.
I can't think of a Week format that matches what you want (there are week formats, like WEEKW., as you clearly found, but I don't know that they do exactly what you want. So, if you want to build one yourself, you can either build a custom picture format, or you can make a string.
Building a custom picture format isn't too hard; see the documentation on Picture formats or google SAS Date Picture Format.

Now you can use that as a normal format.
To get at the week/etc. to build values, you can also use functions week(), month(), etc., if that's easier.
Since the data was already in a date format, I only needed to drop the DATEPART function that only works with datetime values. So, for month-yr,
"a.fnlz_date as fnlz_mnth format=monyy.,"
gives me the results I'm looking for.
