No Updates found for Canopy 1.5 - enthought

I am trying to update my canopy (v 1.4.1 (64 bit)) to 1.5 but in the about page it says no updates are found. I would like to avoid re-downloading. Is there a possible work-around?

Sorry for the inconvenience. We have temporarily disabled in-application updates because of extreme server burden from repeated update downloads in a few atypical environments.
At present, to update Canopy, it's necessary to uninstall the application (on Windows use Control Panel; on Mac delete from Applications; on Linux delete the install dir). Then download the Canopy 1.5.1 (or higher) installer from https://store.enthought.com/downloads/, and install it.
Your Canopy User Python environment is in a separate directory and will not be modified unless you separately, explicitly delete it -- in this respect the effects of this Canopy reinstallation are exactly the same as with an in-app Canopy update. Likewise, your preferences and saved sessions will not be affected.
[Edit March 2015]: The server burden vulnerability was fixed in Canopy 1.5.2, released 28 January 2015. After you update to 1.5.2, future updates should again be possible in-application. See https://support.enthought.com/hc/en-us/articles/204469570-Canopy-shows-no-updates-available-reinstalling-from-the-website
Thanks for your patience.

Anaconda stuck at loading applications version 2022.10

my anaconda 2022.10 stucks at loading applications when I try to start it. I tried to change some code as described in anaconda-navigator stuck on loading applications, but it doesn't resolve my issue.
The reason may lie in prior incomplete anaconda uninstalls (I only uninstalled anaconda with uninstall programs and installed it later again), but I can't download updates with the prompt, because I work behind a proxy at a company.
Is there a way to delete all remnants of prior anaconda installs? Or is there something different behind the issue?
Best,
Simon

Extensions not saved across devices in VSCode Portable Edition v1.74.3

I am using version 1.74.3 of the VSCode Portable Edition, stored on a pendrive, and I am encountering an issue with extensions not being saved across devices. When I install an extension in the portable version, it does not persist if I move the file to another computer. I expect the installed extensions to be saved in the portable version and accessible on any device where I run the portable version from the pendrive. Any assistance in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Operating System: Windows 10
VSCode Portable Edition Version: 1.74.3
I have tried installing extensions in the VSCode Portable Edition, but they do not persist when I move the file to another computer. I expected the installed extensions to be saved within the portable version and accessible on any device where I run the portable version from the pendrive.
This sounds like this issue raised on GitHub: "Portable VS Code Extensions do not Transfer to Other Computers (#171569)"
which is reported to be fixed in the insiders build for v1.75
While you're waiting for 1.75 to be officially released to the general public, you can switch to the insiders version.
Update: VS Code 1.75 was released on 2023 Jan 2nd at 11:50 AM PST. See the releases on their GitHub. The release notes can be found here.

Why can't I install MySQL Workbench

I've downloaded the MySQL installer and tried to run it. On the Check Requirements, MySQL Workbench 8.0.20 is listed. I clicked and got this message in the requirement:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2019 Redistributable Package (x64) is not installed. Latest binary compatible version will be installed if agreed to resolve this requirement.
I click Next and I get:
One or more product requirements have not been satisfied.
I click Yes, and MySQl Workbench is not listed. How do I install?
The intuitive thing is to go to https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/ and select the
Windows (x86, 64-bit), MSI download.
However this failed for me with VS C++ 2019 Redistributable required even after installing the latest version (2015-2019).
So I clicked on
Go to Download Page button which took me to:
https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/installer/8.0.html
and selected the 2nd, larger download (the 435MB file at this writing)
Although this is labeled (x86/32-bit), don't be fooled. It includes both versions and will install the 64 bit version on a 64-bit machine.
The following link will download the current installer as of 6/23/2021:
https://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MySQLInstaller/mysql-installer-community-8.0.25.0.msi
If you are installing significantly later than 6/23/2021, I suggest you start at
https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/
to get the latest version.
Update 2023: The installer has a button to "download prerequisites" that opens https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/
From there get the MySQL Installer and hit next to go to step 2. There, you can select only the "ODBC Connector" that will also include the redistributable. It is far smaller than the whole MySQL db install (e.g. 20Mb).
I had the same problem when trying to install the 35mb 64bit version. Kept coming back with requiring Visual C++ 2019...
Poking around found that if I went back to the install page and looked around the 32bit version of MySQL, there are two other installs. I chose to install the 405mb MySql Workbench 8 32bit and was able to install successfully. Albeit, mine was an upgrade from 6 to 8.0.20.
Uninstall the previous MYSQL and download the (Windows (x86, 64-bit), ZIP Archive
Debug Binaries & Test Suite) 499Mb version, when the error prompts on the screen simply hit No and execute. If the error persists, you might want to to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistribution manually and then continue the installation again.
Install Microsoft visual C++ X86 or X64 from this link ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170 ).
For those seeing this later, I had the same issue with a fresh install of Win11, new PC, and trying to get 8.0.3.1 WB, and got the same dependency error on VC++ 2019. I followed all the same guidance above, and on other threads but it didn't work. The WB installer didn't recognize the VC++ redist pack as being installed.
I went to my old PC, found the old version of VC++ redist, and installed it....voila, WB would install. I used VC++ 14.30.30708, and it worked fine. As of this writing the current version of VC++ redist from the links above, was 14.34.31931
Hope it helps someone.

Terrible Eclipse (3.5) - problem with "Install new software"

I want to install additional software for Eclipse (I use 3.5 because 3.6 is not yet for Scala and Android).
Problem is:
The downloads / installations are INSANELY slow, I didn't get past 5% on the ADT plugin (for example) in one hour - same for everything else I tried
Firefox (no other software so far, IE works fine, etc...) is slowed down when it comes to Internet connectivity as long as "install new software" is running
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit here on a quadcore machine with 4 GB of RAM and an 8 MBit / sec DSL.
Is this a known issue, are there any fixes or will I have to stop considering developing for Android phones?
And yes, I disabled everything - firewall, Skype, etc...
Nothing helped.
JDK installed is 6u21, latest release (installed it today).
Try to uncheck the option 'Contact all update sites during install to find required software' when installing ADT. But you must install all plug-ins required by ADT firstly, such as GEF.
That 6u21 may be your problem, depending on how recently you downloaded it (and, if from a mirror, how up to date the mirror is). They changed "Sun Microsystems, Inc" to "Oracle", and Eclipse was relying on that string for resolution of a bug:
http://m.zdnet.com/blog/burnette/oracle-rebrands-java-breaks-eclipse/2012
From the article: "If you downloaded Java for Windows 32-bit or 64-bit recently, be sure you have the 1.6.0_21-b07 version and not b06."

Using Vista under a Virtual Machine for testing apps

Does anyone know how to install a Vista UPGRADE edition to a virtual machine? Id like to use it for testing with older versions of .NET, but it wont let me install the upgrade version. I'd rather not have to install XP and then Upgrade it. Its a licensed legal copy with CD-Key and all. It just wont install to an empty VM because its an Upgrade version.
Thanks
WARNING: The following does violate your EULA
Install Vista without using a serial number and choose the basic edition and also unselect auto activate.
After install, reinstall and now you can use your serial number and perform an upgrade.
