I am trying to create a gist with Markdown syntax highlight. Unfortunately can't post a screenshot here.
Then I press 'save' and get no syntax highlight applied.
The same issue is there with Python code.
You need to change the file extension to .md
Here's my fork of your gist
You have to add an extension for your language. Add .py not .md if you want python highlighting.
Here's the solution:
You need to place a proper file extension for the filename you are trying to save, for example
Python RegEx
should become
Python RegEx.md
Spaces are ignored.

On the github.docs I saw that it is possible to create markdown todo-lists as follows
- [ ] my first task
- [ ] my second task
When I am trying this in VSCode in a .ipynb Markdown cell, it doesn't render the todo-list. So it basically does not show rendered square but rather shows it just as I typed it in. So it does show it as this
but not as this
I am using the Jupyter extension for VSCode.
I think it has to do something with this extension. However, rendering a table for example works. Also including pictures and basically any other Markdown command I tried. Only the todo-list does not.
Can anyone help with this?
According to this GitHub issue, VSCode does not support markdown todo-lists out of the box. However, you can use the Markdown Checkbox extension, which renders todo-lists in .ipynb Markdown cells.
For reference, this is what the result looks like.
for example .xlp is my file type and name is code.xlp I want to highlight some code.
or some colors ?
Somethings like this
Inno Setup For VS code
In case you don't want to write custom extension, try manual configuration of 'file association' for '.xlp' files.
This will tell VS Code to highlight content of '.xlp' files as language of your choice.
For example, I set it to C# and it looks like this:
Steps for this configuration:
Inside of '.xlp' file press ctrl + P to open navigation field,
Search for >Change Language Mode,
Choose Configure File Association for '.xlp',
From dropdown list choose language you like.
As mentioned inside a comment you must write an extension for VS-Code to have your custom syntax highlighting for those files.
There is a good documentation available at:
https://code.visualstudio.com/api/language-extensions/syntax-highlight-guide
At the mentioned web page you will find also more information about how to write your own extension and how to deploy it etc.
I was trying to copy from GitHub the following file: https://github.com/vineodd/PIMSim/blob/master/GEM5Simulation/gem5/configs/common/MemConfig.py
I have tried using git clone, downloading directly from the website and also copying and pasting. I have done this in four different text editors: sublime text, atom, textWrangler and Spyder. In Spyder it gives me the following message:
Contains mixed end-of-line characters.
Every time, when I open the file the indentation is wrong in a lot of places, what is a problem because it is a Python file. You can see it for example in the line 280. In GitHub all appears to be fine. Can I do something to fix this? Has this happened to anyone before? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I have already figured it out what was happening here. The file was combining spaces and tabs for indentation. GitHub displays tabs as 8 columns (spaces), but in the text editors it was equivalent to 4 columns. So to fix it I opened a new file where I just wrote a tab. I copied it and used it to replace all tabs for 8 columns.
If you're using intellij/Android studio, you can 'Paste as Plain Text'
I use JSDoc syntax to document a lot of parts throughout all my apps.
I often need to make some minimal documentation for SASS variables as well.
However, while any JS/TS/Vue file works really well with JSDoc style comment blocks in VSCode, Sass files seem to try and work against me when trying to type a JSDoc comment...
I know it's possible by just adding some sort of snippet that expands into a JSDoc comment block, but the problem is when pressing ENTER, in JS/TS/Vue files it automatically adds the proper indentation and * in front of the new line inside the comments.
In Sass files, not only is the indentation is consistently wrong when pressing ENTER in a comment block and it's not helping me at all by adding * or the closing */ tag...
I have looked all over the extensions of VSCode as well, but couldn't find anything that helped.
Does anyone know how I can solve this issue?
For my code I'm using Brackets. In editor, code looks proper but after pushing it to github repository, indentations are messed up.
I'm using tab key to make indentation but in preferences there is set "use 2 spaces" after pressing tab key.
I've find out that Github is using 8 spaces for recognised tab keys. But still, it does not give me anything.
The biggest problem is when I use "one var statement".
I've also used jsbeautifier and it doesn't help me at all.
Here you can find an example: My Github code example
Does anybody had such a problem with brackets and github indentations?
Yes I had such problems.
These problems did not reappear when we moved to eslint inside of our IDE. The setup varies for each IDE. You can refer https://eslint.org/docs/rules/indent
If setting eslint is hard for you. Try bracket extensions like https://github.com/brackets-beautify/brackets-beautify . When used correctly it will beautify on save. Caution: Dont beautify code written by others or a team.
