Displaying current path in the window title with byobu on centos - centos

I am used to displaying my current path in the linux terminal window title when using rxvt with something like:
PS1="\[\033]0;\u#\h: \w\007\][${LOGNAME}#${HOSTNAME}] > "
from my .bashrc
I can't find a way to do that in byobu (with tmux) on centos. Does anyone have a clue on how to do that, or in the byobu status line?

I've found out the way to do that in the byobu status bar.
The problem with CentOS 6, is that the tmux version that comes from the standard repo. is v1.6, and we need at least 1.8 to achieve the result.
So install tmux from the latest sources like explained here: https://gist.github.com/sturadnidge/4185338
NB: Kill old tmux sessions before running byobu again.
And then use the following setting in your $HOME/.byobu/.tmux.conf
set -g status-left '#{pane_current_path} '

VSCode on Linux Mint, integrated terminal not able to type anything

Hi I'm running Linux Mint 19 and I have just installed vscode using the snapd package manager. I've not used vscode on linux before as my usual editor is emacs. However, on a fresh new install of vscode, the integrated terminal does not work, there is just a non blinking cursor in the top left of the screen, but no prompt and no keyboard strokes are registering. This appears to be a common problem as there are a lot of posts about it if googled, but they are all for Windows versions and none of the solutions that I'm able to try do anything. I've tried to open a new terminal window, but the same thing happens I just get two terminal windows that I now cannot use. I've also tried checking the box that says Code-runner: Run In Terminal, but that does nothing either. What can I do to get this to work please, I looks to me like it is just not connected to either a bash or Zsh(which I normally use). Any help on this would be appreciated.
Instead of starting vscode with its default shell script (usually located on /usr/share/code/bin/code), the integrated terminal only works for me when starting it directly from the compiled binary (typically found on /usr/share/code/code, which is the same as the launcher created by the installer:
/usr/share/code/code --no-sandbox --unity-launch %F
While I searched for a solution in the past I've also noticed that lots of folks solved similar problems just by adding --disable-gpu flag, so might be worth checking out as well.

Terminal started behaving badly when Zshell theme is present

Versions:
VSCode Version: 1.46.1
OS Version: Windows_NT x64 10.0.20161
Steps to Reproduce:
Install debian-dev-boilerplate inside WSL.
Setup powerlevel 10k.
Clone a git repo and enter its folder.
git clone git#github.com:DanielAtKrypton/debian-dev-boilerplate.git
cd debian-dev-boilerplate
You should now see something like:
Open vscode from zshell. By typing at the zshell prompt:
code .
At this point the bug is revealed when the terminal is opened for the first time inside vscode. At first glance, the terminal renders correctly the powerlevel10k theme. After half a second, the theme is deactivated as can be seen in the next picture.
Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?:
Yes. The first time vscode is launched, it installs a vanilla (with no extensions) vscode-server to the linux distro. And still the bug happens.
It is interesting to note that in prior vscode versions this functionality was working alright. For any reason I don't know this issue started to happen in the last couple weeks.

Most likely Powerlevel10k has been installed and/or loaded from ~/.zshrc incorrectly. The screenshot of VS Code shows robbyrussell theme, so I surmise that you are using Oh My Zsh. To install Powerlevel10k on top of Oh My Zsh you need to follow these instructions:
Run: git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/romkatv/powerlevel10k.git ${ZSH_CUSTOM:-$HOME/.oh-my-zsh/custom}/themes/powerlevel10k
Set ZSH_THEME="powerlevel10k/powerlevel10k" in ~/.zshrc.
Try running grep -E 'ZSH_THEME|/powerlevel10k' ~/.zshrc. The output must be exactly like below.
ZSH_THEME="powerlevel10k/powerlevel10k"
If it's not, you need to fix ~/.zshrc.

Neovim error: E492: Not an editor command: PlugInstall

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
I just installed neovim using sudo apt-get install neovim and added the folder and file ~/.config/nvim/vim.init. At this moment the file has no content, but when I open up nvim and type :PlugInstall I get error: E492: Not an editor command: PlugInstall. I am clueless, what is going wrong?
I think you are trying to use vim-plug without previously installing it.
I changed my plug#begin to
call plug#begin('~/.local/share/nvim/site/autoload/plug.vim')
and it worked for me now

I also wrote call plug#begin('~/.config/nvim/plugged) and made a directory at that location. Then the reload command is also source ~/.config/nvim/init.vim where init.vim is the configuration file. And then I just ran :PlugInstall and it worked :D
I got this error too, but in my case I was typing :pluginstall instead of the case-sensitive :PlugInstall and you have to use the correct case or it won't work. Oddly, :PlugUpdate was able to work before :PlugInstall but that was just because I typed the case correctly.
I see I have the vim.plug correctly installed here

I also created a "plugged" folder here and I see this is where vim-plug put the downloaded files from running :PlugInstall

To be overly pedantic, I typed 'cd' to get to the user directory, then cd .vim to go into my dotted .vim folder, then "mkdir plugged" to create the plugged directory. Not sure if this was 100% necessary or if :PlugInstall would have created it by itself.
I also needed to :source ~/.vimrc between adding addition plug line items and typing :PlugInstall, so make sure you "source" or you can also completely quit and restart your Vim so it will reload your .vimrc file, otherwise it won't know anything about your file edits.
I'm on a Mac. I installed vim-plug for standard vim and this gave me this file

I had the same problem and come here for leave my contribution ( I hadn't find this solution in anywhere ). In my case, it's caused by permissions in my linux. I always start my vim for ocults archives with:
sudo vim .vimrc
In this case, the Vim just use the default commands ( I don't know why but I think this is by the security ). If you just run:
vim .vimrc
All the user commands will be able.
In my case, I had multiple terminal windows open. I still had the Vim window open after installing vim-plug in another window. Solution was to close and re-open Vim.
Instead of
call plug#begin()
I did
call plug#begin(has('nvim') ? stdpath('data') . '/plugged' : '~/.vim/plugged')
Worked 100%
If you have followed the steps in https://github.com/junegunn/vim-plug, but still didn't work.
Try run ':source ~/.config/nvim/vim.init' in vim (not source ~/.config/nvim/vim.init in shell).
Make sure git is installed.
In my case, I was trying to do :PlugInstall in a docker container and did not have git installed. I installed git, and it worked.

Eclipse Mars Scrolling in Lubuntu

Just installed Eclipse Mars on Lubuntu 14.
While scrolling up and down in the console or editor - I get a kind of black rectangle covering some text, or the test is kind of twisted visually (lines become non-straight).
Anyone know how to fix this?
Haven't had this in previous versions of Eclipse on the same comp.
Exactly the same thing happened to me installing Eclipse Mars on Lubuntu 14 Toshiba Satellite notebook. I was really looking forward to the day of the Eclipse annual release of Mars and I was disappointed to be so disappointed with 5 minutes on installing.
Anyway, I can confirm that setting environment variable SWT_GTK3=0 by way of export does circumvent the problem. If you open a terminal and type "export SWT_GTK3=0" in the shell, you will also need to start Eclipse via the command line while remaining in the same shell. If you start Eclipse via a desktop launch icon, Eclipse will not see the SWT_GTK3 environment variable and the problem will persist. This is because environment variables in Linux are per-process and an application launched from the desktop is running in a different process to a shell process in a terminal.
So that Eclipse always sees the correct SWT_GTK3 environment variable after starting your machine, best you export SWT_GTK3=0 globally. To do this on Lubuntu, follow these steps:
Open a terminal window
Open the file /etc/profile for editing as sudo (e.g. sudo gedit /etc/profile)
Add the line
export SWT_GTK3=0
at the end of the file.
Save file, quit editor and reboot your machine.
Launch Eclipse Mars and hopefully your scrolling problem is fixed.
This worked for me but, as always, YMMV.
btw. You can check the SWT-GTK3 environment variable was exported after rebooting by opening a terminal window and typing the 'env' command. You should see
SWT_GTK3=0 in the list of environment variables and values that are displayed.

It happens also under Kubuntu. Anyway the workaround, at least for me, is to export the following environment variable:
SWT_GTK3=0
I solved my problem in Ubuntu 15.04 with Eclipse Mars by adding the following code in the start of data in the Exec option in eclipse.desktop (/home/.local/share/applications):
Exec=env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 SWT_GTK3=0 /usr/lib/jvm/...
In that way you leave intact your OS preferences and act only on Eclipse starting script.

Make emacs run in console mode (-nw) by default

How can I make Emacs run in terminal (or console) mode by default, as if I'd used -nw? And once that's done, how do I force it to run in GUI mode (once) if I need to?
On my Debian testing, alias emacs='emacs -nw' followed by emacs opens Emacs in the terminal. And, in the same session, emacs23-x opens Emacs with the GUI.
In case you decide to use emacs in terminal mode always, install emacs-nox (emacs with no X support).
After installationis still ran by $ emacs so you no need to create aliases again!:)
Its there in repos of Debian Squeeze so must be in Ubuntu also.
This answer suggests the method I found works best for me (was having problems with aliases). Essentially, create an executable script
#!/bin/sh
emacs -nw "$#"
and point $EDITOR to it in your shell rc file.
I ran into this problem and didn't want to set an alias (because I also wanted "emacs -nw" to be my default shell EDITOR but it wouldn't work) so I started grepping around and saw this line in configure
If you are sure you want Emacs compiled without X window support, pass
--without-x to configure.
So, if you want to download and build from source, you can just do
