save Matlab data in a .xls file - matlab

I want to save data in a results.xls file which I want to set its first row "header" with a specific names lets say a,b,c,d,e. So, basically I have matlab function func1 which loops n times. In this loop, I call another function func2, where I do some processes and save save variables lets say a_res,b_res, c_res,d_res,e_res, I want to save those variables in each iteration in the results.xls file, where if the loop has 10 iterations then this means the results file will have 10 rows and 5 columns + the header row, so 11 in total. Could anyone please advise how this can be done in Matlab?
the below image shows the desired output where the first row is headings, then each row after that will be filled with variables calculated in each iteration of the loop.

Following the proposed solution, I used this:
save('results.xls', 'name','number_of_points','blood_level','width','sugval', '-ASCII');
where 'name','number_of_points','blood_level','width','sugval', are variables holding strings. But when I open the excel file this is what I get results.xls if anyone could please advise.

p = rand(1, 10);
q = ones(10);
save('test.xls', 'p', 'q', '-ASCII')
This works for me. It saves me on the first row the random values of "p" and beneath I have the values for "q". You might check it out. Hope it helps

Numerical Matrix CSV -> Covariance Matrix

I have a CSV file containing a numerical matrix with over two thousand New York Stock Exchange listed companies' value over two years.
It seems like it should be really simple - I want to attain a covariance matrix formed from the CSV matrix.
As far as I'm aware I simply need to:
Import the data as numerical matrix (just the data no headings etc) using the MATLAB Import Data button.
Press save as on the workspace variable and make e.g. NYSE.mat.
In my function call cov(NYSE.mat);
This should access the matrix and return a large covariance matrix from my data. The cov() function works when i manually input an example matrix of for example:
[5 0 3 7; 1 -5 7 3; 4 9 8 10];
But for some reason whenever I try to call cov(NYSE.mat); only one number is returned, rather than a covariance matrix.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? I've been trying to figure this out for a while now and I feel the answer should be really simple.

Not sure you need to manually save the workspace name in step 2. As part of your import process you once you click the import button the variable should be loaded into workspace with the name of the file (maybe NYSE)
Try Load('NYSE.mat') and see what appears in your workspace.
Once you figure out the name of the variable, calling the function with that.
If your CSV file is without any header lines (not sure if any CSV file needs them) and contains only numbers, you can simply call
x = importdata('<nameofyourcsv>.csv');
and then
c = cov(x);
or even do it in one step:
c = cov(importdata('nameofcsv.csv'));
This function is equivalent of clicking on the button you mention. However, if your file contains header lines, you have to specify its number and call this function with more parameters:
x = importdata('nameofcsv.csv',',', nh); % nh is a number of header lines
x will no longer be a regular MATLAB matrix but a structure with following fields: data, textdata, and colheaders. cov(x.data) will calculate covariance. Not sure why you would need to save anything in a mat file, though. If you wish, you would probably need to assign a value from a data field to a regular variable and then save such variable. Otherwise, you will save the whole x structure.

If you want to save a .mat-file for each iteration the only thing you need to do is to generate a unique filename for each iteration within the loop. This can be done using format strings, for instance in your case something like
filename = sprintf('output_kk=%d_jj=%d_ii=%d.mat', [kk jj ii]);
save(filename);
You have the option to save specific variables by adding them as options to the save command. For more about string formatting I'd suggest you check out the sprintf documentation.
I'm not sure whether this is the most efficient way to do it. Depending on the number and size of output variables you're interested in you can also create a cell structure and save your data into a new cell for each iteration.

error importing multiple files at same time

Trying to join different files with an specific suffix in a matrix, but always I obtain a matrix with unique row containing the values of the last file..

You are overwriting the variables allCABLX, allCABLY, allCABCY and allCABCX in every iteration, so only the last values stay there after the loop. You need to save the data inside the loop to be able to access it afterwards.
If all files have the same number of entries, this can be achieved by concatenating the values obtained by importdata. Since I don't know the dimensions of the output of importdata, I'm not going into the details here.
If the files have different number of entries, you can use a cell array to store the data of each iteration. This works as well in case all entries are of the same size. The following code does exactly this for one of the variables:
codes= [2302,2202,1602,1502,1702];
allCABLX = cell(length(codes),1); % create empty cell array
for p=1:length(codes)
name=num2str(codes(:,p));
allCABLX{p} = importdata([name '_Cabeza_L_x.txt']);
end
Note that I replaced mat2str by num2str since you only have a number to convert and not a whole matrix. In case all the files have data of the same dimension, you can use cell2mat after the loop to get a normal matrix.

Change value inside a loop on Matlab

I have a question about how can I use different values in each iteration with a loop. I have an image with 145 bands. I calculate the size, the number of rows, columns and bands

I have to do an operation for every band, and then obtain the result but I don't know how to change one of the values automatically for every iteration. I'm going to try to simplify the question. This is my loop. The value rad1 is defined before. I need that on every loop uses some value defined before (for example, band2 value rad2, band3 rad3...) and extract a result for each one (nd1 changes automatically to nd2, etc.)

Don't try using different variable names. Just use rad(1), rad(2) etc. and then

(Your initialization of output doesn't match the code in your loop, by the way.)

I need to create a .mat file , using matObj or save(), that has some information that will be passed from some variable. Lets say that variable x = 1,2,3,4,5
1|2|3|4|5|
Then I need to save that in test.mat
Then I need to load that file and save something like,
6|7|8|9|10|
So I get
1|2|3|4|5|
6|7|8|9|10|
and so on.
So every time I save it goes to a new row. The numbers that go inside they are not random the above numbers are just there to make things simple to see.
Can someone help me out.
You are describing two different problems here. The first is saving and loading of data.
Saving is easy:
x = 1:5;
filename = 'myFile.mat'
save(filename, 'x'); %notice that I used the string name of the variable
Likewise loading is also simple:
filename = 'myFile.mat';
data = load(filename); % loaded variables are placed in a struct to prevent overwriting workspace variables
x = data.x;
The 2nd problem can be solved using concatenation:
lets say you want to convert the vector 1 2 3 into the matrix:
1 2 3
1 2 3
You can simply call:
v = 1:3;
m = cat(1, v, v);
Likewise you can add an additional row to the existing matrix using the same command:
m = cat(1, m, v);
I'm sure any amount of googling will get you how to save a variable to a mat file - The matlab docs are absolutely spectacular, and such a simple operation will be covered along with examples showing exactly how to use the functions.
As for the second part, use the concatenation property
new = [old1 old2];
to concatenate horizontally, and
new = [old1;old2];
to concatenate vertically. Then resave the same way that you just learned via google.
