Apple watch video playback - apple-watch

Can apple watch capable of video playback? I want to develop an app similar to vine for apple watch. So, user can consume video conveniently from the watch. Is it possible?
I have played with animating multiple images to create a video but it really is a bad approach. Anyone else comes up with any idea?

Update after WWDC 2015:
Good news! Now it's possible!
Link to sample code:
https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/watchos/samplecode/WatchKitMoviePlayer/Introduction/Intro.html
Summary:
Now there is a class (WKInterfaceMovie) that allows you to play videos on the watch :)
From the docs:
A WKInterfaceMovie object lets you play back video and audio content
directly from your interface. A movie object displays a poster image
with a play button on top of it. When the user taps the play button,
WatchKit plays the movie in a modal interface.
Class Reference:
https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/watchos/documentation/WatchKit/Reference/WKInterfaceMovie_class/index.html

Using the current APIs it might be difficult/impossible.
Still, the camera application on the apple watch is receiving a live stream coming from the camera of the iPhone at a quite good rate.
Most of the apple watch apps are not using only the publicly available APis but it shows that it should be feasible (not talking about the sound here...)
update:
I had missed one feature, there IS an embedded video player with sound on the apple watch... have someone send you a short video has an iMessage and you are able to play it on the watch...

How to detect that youtube has finished to play on iphone?

How to detect that youtube has finished to play on iphone ? I can't see how since youtube plays in another app or web safari.
But I have seen some apps that can play youtube video one after another so it should be but then how ?
If you're talking about integrating a movie into your app, (which I believe you'd do by loading the video URI into MPMoviePlayerController), you'd listen for MPMoviePlayerPlaybackDidFinishNotification. If you clarify your question though, I may know another method.

How can I record currently playing audio on the iPhone?

I'd like to record what the iPhone is currently outputting. So I'm thinking about recording audio from Apps like Music (iPod), Skype, any Radio Streaming App, Phone, Instacast... I don't want to record my own audio or the mic input.
Is there an official way to do this? How do I do it? It seems like AVAudioRecorder does not allow this, can somebody confirm?
Officially you can't. The audio stream belongs to the app playing it ,and iOS.
The Sandbox paradigm means that a resource owned by your App can't be used by another App. Resource here means Audio/Video stream or file. Exceptions are when a mediator like Document interaction controller are used.
If you want to do this you'd have to start with deducing AVFoundation's private methods and find out if theres a way there. Needless to say this it wouldn't be saleable on the App store and will probably only be possible on a jailbreak.
Good Luck.
TLDR;
This is only feasible only from time to time, as it's a time expensive process.
You can record the screen while listening your songs on Spotify, Music or whatever music application.
This will generate a video on your Photos application. That video can be converted on MP3 from your computer.
Actually, this is not true. The screen recordings will not actually have the audio from Apple Music at all, as it blocks it. Discord also uses this pipe as well, so you cannot record Discord audio either this way.

playing an intro video for a website on iphone and ipad

I have been doing some research into what is possible, as far as I can tell
Autoplay
Possible to autostart videos on early versions of IOS http://www.codeblog.co/getting-autoplay-working-on-ios/ although this no longer works on current version (exact version it stopped working I don't know). Behaviour seems to be the same on both the iPad and iPhone?
Playing video in page
On the iPhone videos always pop out to player, its not possible to play in page.
However is possible to play videos in page on the iPad - have tried out the videos on here and they do play inline.
http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/video/basics/
Playing as intro video
May be able to do an enter now button for the site with below code to trigger
<input type="button" value="Play" onClick="document.myMovie.play()">
https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/AudioVideo/Conceptual/Using_HTML5_Audio_Video/Device-SpecificConsiderations/Device-SpecificConsiderations.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40009523-CH5-SW10
Could then on iPad make this take the full screen in page in website and use js to detect when the video finishes. Am thinking on iPhone may not be possible to detect when video finishes?
Can anyone clarify what is possible?
As much as I know intro video aren't too popular, this is a requirement for the site.
Automatic play is not possible on iOS as fas sa I'm aware. They removed support on purpose to stop people from doing it.
Any playback now requires the user to actually specify for the video to play, so providing a button to play it should be fine?
Can't you keep your video in the bundle and play it with MPMovieePlayer. Then you won't need to autoplay the video, the video will be played autometically itself. As I do the same thing.

Can we play only audio using youtube api for iPhone

In my project i have to use youtube api and play only audio of the video. We must not show the youtube player. Is it possible to play only audio without showing video using youtube api?
Extraction may be the incorrect implied word here. From what I understand, is user133611 wants to have an audio only stream from YouTube. Unfortunately, YouTube directly forbids it. Here is a quote from Kuan Yong from the YouTube API team:
Your API Client will not, and You will not encourage or create
functionality for Your users or other third parties to:
"separate, isolate, or modify the audio or video components of any YouTube audiovisual content made available through the YouTube API"
-Kuan Yong, YouTube API Team

I don't think this is really possible only using Youtube API. The Youtube API is not intended to be used for "downloading" videos/audio from them. You should go here, to understand what the Youtube API is really about.
A small abstract:
Unless I am missing something really big, the Youtube API consists of 5 main parts:
Data API
Custom Player
YouTube Direct
Player APIs
Widgets
None of this APIs allow you to for example "download" a video. Also I think (correct me if I'm wrong), that in a youtube video, the audio is actually embedded in the flash video, making the task even less trivial.
To illustrate you, the Data API, allows you to perform and use the youtube video search capabilities, use playlist capabilities and many more of the operations available on the YouTube website.
That have being said, the Youtube API, can be used for example to upload a video from your iPhone to youtube, as this example illustrates.
My Thoughts:
I think that extracting the audio from a youtube video, is actually possible, but involves a whole different process of downloading the video in H264 and then extracting the audio... but it still involves downloading the whole video.
Is the audio only prohibition still valid? Streamus is available as a Chrome Extension. It streams audio only from YT - see website https://streamus.com/
Well, one can simply give the video a width and height of 1px, or better yet do:
.video { text-indent: -9999px; }
And then force the video to play via the API controls. But I wouldn't do it as it is against their TOS and would result in my app being blocked if they find out.
I really confused about your platform. Do you want to do it over iOS platform with writing native code? If yes, you can do it without playing video. But you have to stream both video and music. You can do it with AVAudioPlayer Class, check the reference from
https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/AVFoundation/Reference/AVAudioPlayerClassReference/
But yes, you will makes users GSM data overload and it's not fair with letting users about that situation.
Maybe you can force your view over the youtube view? Have you tried that?
If it is against TOS, the op should just drop the idea of implementing his idea.
Just imagine the free music everyone will be streaming out of the promo videos of major videos on youtube!

how to use the camera roll feature which says upload video to youtube, email and mms, in our own iphone application?

i have built an iphone application which makes a video and than you can record the video further. now the main part or my application is that i want to upload it to youtube or e-mail it. now conventionally you take a video or picture for instance from the gallery and using the camera roll feature.
can i utilize that feature in my own application so that after i have recorded a video through my iphone application i dont have to go back to the camera roll feature which is there in the iphone built in gallery.
It doesn't look like you can get access to those features within your app.
You'll have to implement these features yourself.
